Abstract

TITLEThe effectiveness of chewing stringy and watery fruits against the quantity of Streptococcus mutans in children with special needsABSTRACTChildren who suffer from mental retardation associated with muscle coordination resulted in delays on the development of movement (motoric), speech, and limitations adjust to the environment. The disorder is also added to the difficulties of children to be able to maintain healthy teeth and mouth independently and are less active mouth muscles to get a good natural cleansing. The process of chewing fibrous foods will stimulate and increase saliva production. The apple is a fibrousfruit which can be obtained on the market. And apple has the ability to self-cleansing effect. This study aims to determine the effect of chewing an apple to the quantity of Streptococcus mutans bacteria in children with special needsThis type of research is descriptive. The method used in this study is a quasi experimental and design studies carried out by one group pretest and posttest. In this study, a sample calculation of the number of bacteria before and after chewing apples in saliva using Total Plate Count. Samples were 15 students from elementary classes I-VI mild mental retardation in special schools amounted foundation Widya Bhakti Semarang.The results showed statisticfrom  paired t-test that there are effective chew of fibrousand juicy fruit on the quantity of bacteria Streptococcus mutans in a special needs child, and from the analysis of the data showed a significant difference with the t value of 3,778 df (degrees of freedom) and p value = 0.002 (p 0.05). Keywords : fruit fibrous watery, streptococcus mutans quantity

Abstract

TITLEThe dental nurse responsible to appropriate and incompetent dental servicesABSTRACTAuthority possessed by a dental nurse to perform ministerial duties is the legal authority (rechtsbevoegheid). On the basis of this authority, a health worker is entitled to treatment in accordance with their competence. When the administrative requirements to carry out the profession have been met, then the dental nurse as a profession carrier has obtained the professional authority in the work. However, if a health worker do the job without authority, may be considered to violate one of the professional standards of health workers. The purpose of this study was to determine the responsibility of Dental Nurses implementation of the actions of dental health services in Bergas PHC, Duren PHC and Suruh PHC in district of Semarang. This research is a descriptive study that aims to describe systematically and accurately the facts and characteristics of the population or about a particular field. This study sought to describe a situation or event. The instrument used was the questionnaire.From the results of the study conducted by researchers in the field of the Dental Nurses at Duren PHC, Duren PHC and Suruh PHC in district of Semarang by interview can be seen and showed that the majority of Dental Nurses who work in clinics have been carrying out job responsibilities properly in accordance with the competence of Nurses teeth and is in conformity with the laws and regulations governing dental Nurses. Abstract

TITLEOral pemphigus vulgaris associated herpes simplex virus infection (case report)ABSTRACTPemphigus Vulgaris (PV) is an autoimmune mucocutaneous disease characterized by intraepithelial blister formation, which develops due to the interaction between predisposing genetic and environmental factors. Infections caused by members of the Herpesviridae family have been suggested as a possible triggering factor for PV. The purpose of this case report was to describe the case of a patient who has developed PV after showing herpetic infection, which refractory to corticosteroid therapy. A 49-year old-woman suffered from extensive multiple painful erosions/ulcers of the mouth. The lesions started on the buccal mucosa which subsequently involved the entired mouth. Histopathologic examination was suggestive of PV. The lesions developed concurrently with high titers of anti-HSV antibodies. These patient was treated with oral and topical corticosteroid, but showed incomplete remission. The titers of anti-HSV have followed the PV activity, reducing with the remission of the disease. Two months later, patient developed exacerbation of the lesions, following the return of high titers of anti-HSV IgG.The treatment with acyclovir has succeeded and all lesions have been completely healed. This case indicated that the lesions of PV which are refractory to corticosteroid therapy, should be considered to herpetic infection.                                                                              Keywords : Oral pemphigus vulgaris, herpes simplex infection, autoimmune, corticosteroids

Abstract

TITLEThe relationship between concentration of mangosteen water stew as gargle and pH salivaABSTRACTCaries prevalence of people is 72.1%, with active caries prevalence of 46.5%. The incidence of dental caries due to the activity of microorganisms that leaven carbohydrates (substrate) to form acids that condition oral pH decreased to below 5. In order to maintain the pH of saliva can be done with traditional medicine, one of the mangosteen fruit. In the mangosteen fruit there is the content of alpha-mangostin and gamma-mangostin, which works as an anti-microbial. The study aims to determine the relationship between the concentration of the solution in boiling water to rinse the mangosteen fruit with changes in salivary pH.This type of research is a quasy experimental, with a design pretest-posttest design experiment. The subject of research conducted on the population that met the inclusion criteriawhich have no more than two carious tooth element and does not have gingivitis. The data analysis method is descriptive quantitative and correlation with Chi Square test.The results showed pH saliva in concentrations of 50%, before rinsing average salivary pH of 7.12 to 7.6. At a concentration of 75%, initial salivary pH was 7.2 and then changed to 8.0. Salivary pH changes after rinsing into acids derived from a concentration of 50%, whereas the increase tend to base is obtained from the concentration of 75%. The test results with the Chi square statistic obtained p.value = 0,142, and the interpretation was no relationship of the use of boiled water concentration of mangosteen to changes in salivary pH. Suggestions research results as a reference for the development of further research by conducting a more varied concentration of the solution formula to determine the right dose.  Key words : concentration mangosteen fruit stew

Abstract

TITLEInhibitory effect of mengkudu seeds extract against the growth of Streptococcus mutansABSTRACTOne of the problems in the oral cavity are dental caries. Dental caries is caused by bacteria Streptococcus mutans. Mengkudu seed is one of the herbs that have antibacterial effects that is composedof linoleic acid and essential fatty acids, alkaloids, saponins, tannins and cardiac glycosides. The purpose of this study was to determine the inhibitory Mengkudu seed extract on the growth of Streptococcus mutans.This research uses descriptive method. The study design is experimental. This study uses a concentration of 100% and 8 repetitions. Using a control group Sodium Physiological 0.9%. Research subjects in this study is the bacteria Streptococcus Mutans. In this study, bacteria were grown on PCA media by paper disc which had previously been dipped in water 100% noni seed extract, then take a paper disk back Sodium Physiological dipped 0.9% as a control group and in place on the media PCA, then incubated for 1 x 24 hours. Once it is done in the area oligodinamik measurements with calipers (mm). Analysis of the data used is descriptive kuantiatif.The results showed that noni seed extract can inhibit the growth of bacteria Streptococcus mutans. While having inhibitory still relatively very weak which is an average of 8 times the experiment is 8.32mm and it is hoped this research can be developed again with another method, in order to get results in maximum. Abstract

TITLEThe influence of dental training with tooth brushing module to educational level of elementary school teachers in SD Unggul Sakti JambiABSTRACTElementary school health training is a main objective of health promotion. Society, which is the health promotion primary target must be empowered to accept and able to maintain and develop their own health. The increase of teacher’s participation and skill in health service is in accordance with authority delegation scope, that teachers are able to play active role in guiding their students in increasing dental and oral hygiene. The purpose of the research is to find out the impact of increasing the training using how to brush teeth module towards SD Unggul Sakti Kota Jambi teachers’ knowledge.It is a quasi experiment with pre-test and post-test control group design. The respondents are 18 Elementary school Unggul Sakti Jambi city teachers as control group and 18 Elementary School Sari Putra teachers as control group. For the knowledge variable, the data collection is by filling questionaire about elementary school teacher knowledge about brushing teeth before and after the training using brushing teeth module. The data analyzed with Wilcoxon test.Research result shows that p 0,001, which means that there is a significant differentiation of teacher’s knowledge between before and after the training. Median value (min-Max) 20 (19-20) (experiment group) and after the observation, the median value (Min-Max) 8.5 (7-14). So, it can be concluded that there is an impact of training using brushing teeth module towards SD Unggul Sakti Kota Jambi teacher’s knowledge. Keywords : elementary teacher training, knowledge, how to brush teeth

Abstract

TITLEThe survey of pH saliva in mental retardation children of SLB Kabupaten Jepara in 2016ABSTRACTMental retardation is a retardation abnormality intellectual functioning and adaptive capabilities significantly with the signs shown before the age of 18 years. People with mental retardation have oral health and hygiene were worse compared with normal children. Purpose of this study was to determine the state of buffer of saliva in mentally retarded children in SLB Jepara.This research is a survey and cross sectional study as research design, and sampling using stratifiedrandom sampling. This type is used by researcher to know some of the variables in the population, because the total number of students in SLB Jepara was 225 and researchers get 20% of the total number of students is 45, and are grouped into 15 people with mild mental retardation, 15 people with moderate mental retardation and 15 with severe mental retardation.pH saliva of mentally retarded children tend to be more acidic, is caused by the exclusion or secretion of buffer saliva is less than the maximum because of the work of the autonomic nervous activity which includes the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous. The results showed that the average pH of saliva in children with mental retardation in Jepara regency highest in SLB show in an acidic state by 67% and the lowest is in the alkaline state in the amount of 13%. Parents need to pay more attention to hygiene and dental health of children, and also train children to always keep his own personal hygiene, especially in terms of oral health, it could also teach brushing teeth early. And the researchers suggested that the school makes an effort dental health program in schools with programs that can be applied to children with mental retardation, such as brushing their teeth together or perform routine checks every 6 months.  Keywords : Mental retardation, pH Saliva

TITLEThe potency of chemical composition of purple sweet potatoes (Ipomoea batatas L) as dental plaque identification agent on dental surfacesABSTRACTOn dental surface always been formed a transparent layer which firmly attached, known as dental plaque layer. Plaque on the tooth surface can be used as one indicator of oral hygiene. To determine the presence of plaque necessary dyes which can stain the surface of the plaque. Purple sweet potato has a natural dye that is anthocyanin. This study aims to determine the potential of the chemical content of purple sweet potato (ipomoea batatas l,) as the material identification of the presence of plaqueThis study research method was Experimental Research and Posttest Only Design as research approach. Sampling used with total Sampling methods and the number of respondents was 30 people. All respondents subjected twice treatment who gets purple sweet potato solution and hatching materials disclosing solution as a positive control at different times.Results showed  Purple sweet potato can be used as identification of the presence of plaque on the tooth surface and of the test statistic test Independent t test, obtained p 0.000 means there are differences of influence between the material of purple sweet potato with materials disclosing solution as the material identification of the presence of dental plaque. Abstract

TITLEThe effect of iodized salt solution concentration against Streptococcus mutans growthABSTRACTIodium Salt solution is the combination of Na and Cl in water. The iodium salt could kill gram postitive and negative bacteria. Streptococcus mutans is one of bacteria that cause caries. The aim of this study wanted to know the effect of iodium salt solution in 20% and 80% concentration toward inhibitory ability of Streptococcus mutans.The type of this study was quasy experiment without control group. This study was the intervention of salt consentration toward inhibitory ability of bacteria.  The data were analyzed with quantitative descriptitive analyze.The result showed that the inhibitory effect of 20% salt solution was 5.3mm and 7.0mm for 80% salt solution. The cathegory inhibitory ability was moderate for 20% concentration and high for 80% concentration. The conclusion was that the 80% concentration of salt solution were more powerful in inhibitting Streptococcus mutans than 20%. Keywords : iodium salt solution, inhibitory ability, Streptococcus mutans
