Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using different additives on the physical and chemical quality of complete sorghum-based silage. The method used is a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 4 replications, consisting of: R0 (Sorghum + Lamtoro (Without additives / controls)), R1 (Sorghum + Lamtoro + 20% Bran + Stone Sugar 10) %), R2 (Sorghum + Lamtoro + 20% Corn Flour + 10% sugar) and R3 (Sorghum + Lamtoro + Pollard 20% + 10% rock sugar). The percentage of additives is calculated based on the weight of the sorghum and lamtoro chopped. Sorghum plants are harvested at the age of 70 days after planting and are swayed for 3 hours and chopped 3 cm in size. The results of the enumeration are mixed with additives according to the treatment and percentage and put into a plastic jar (silo) with a capacity of 3 liters, the mixture put in the silo is pressed so that the layer of chopped becomes solid (anaerobic principle). Ensilase is left for 21 days. The physical quality (observations) seen were texture, color, aroma, pH and percentage of fungi, the complete nutrient content of silage was measured proximally. The results showed that there was influence (P <0.05) on the use of additives on the aroma and percentage of complete silage mushrooms made from sorghum while color, pH and texture were not affected by the use of additives. It was concluded that the use of additives can improve the physical and chemical quality of complete silage based on sorghum. Each type of additive has a different influence on improving the complete silage quality. The best physical and chemical quality is indicated by the use of pollard 20% and 10% rock sugar.

Abstract

The skin of red dragon fruit (Hylocereus pilyrhizus) contains antiobacterial properties which can inhibit the growth of microorganisms. With the presence of these antibacterial compounds, dragon fruit skin has the potential to become a natural preservative, to replace the use of chemical preservatives such as nitrite in processing se’i (smoked meat typical of East Nusa Tenggara). The results showed that the dragon fruit peel extract inhibited the growth of pathogenic bacteria such as E. coli ATCC 25922 and S. aureus ATCC 25923. The difference in treatment of pathogen bacteria given significantly affected the inhibitory zone of activity of red dragon fruit skin juice bacteria (P<0.05). The use of dragon fruit skin juice as curing material can inhibit bacterial growth and extend the shelf life until the sixth day at room temperature. It can be concluded that the use of dragon fruit skin juice as curing material can inhibit bacterial growth so that it can extend the shelf life at room temperature.

Abstract

This research was conducted at Claretian Benlutu dairy farm, Batu Putih District, TTS Regency for one month. This research consisted of 2 stages, namely 1 month of nipple dyeing and the second stage of testing the sample in the laboratory. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the use of garlic extract (Allium sativum) as a natural ingredient in the nipple on the microbiological quality of fresh cow's milk. In this study used 16 nipples from 4 dairy cattle. The experimental design used was a Completely Randomized Design of 4 treatments and 3 replications, with the treatment being R0 = commercial antisep solution as a control, R1 = concentration of garlic extract 20%, R2 = concentration of garlic extract 25% and R3 = concentration of onion extract white 30%. The variables observed in this study were reductase time and total bacteria. The results showed that the use of garlic extract (Allium Sativum) had the same effect as the commercial antisep solution seen from the time of bacterial and total bacterial reductase (P> 0.05). This is because garlic has anti-bacterial allicin which can inhibit bacterial growth. It can be concluded that garlic extract has the same ability as a commercial antisep solution in inhibiting the bacteria that causes mastitis in the nipples of dairy cows. Microbiological test results of 2 variables of milk use of garlic extract with a concentration of 20% are very optimal in the use of dairy milk nipple dyes in addition to inhibiting bacteria also saves costs in making garlic extract.

Abstract

This study aims to estimate the body weight of female goats that are traditionally raised by breeders in the village of Boronubaen, North Biboki District, North Central Timor Regency. Sampling of research and livestock is carried out by proposive sampling. The livestock that were the object of the study were 23 female goats belonging to breeders with different ages ie 1 and 2 years viewed based on fixed incisors. The method used in this study is an experimental method by making direct measurements of the linear body of a female goat and body weight. The variables measured in this study included estimating body weight, body length, chest circumference, shoulder height. The data obtained were analyzed by simple linear regression analysis according to the instructions (Akdon, 2013). The mathematical model is: Y = a + bX. Where, Y = the predicted value / projected bound variable subject; A = Constant price value; b = Regression coefficient / Direction value as a predictor / prediction showing the value of increasing (+) or decreasing value (-) of variable Y; X = free variable. It was concluded that body length at one year of age and chest circumference had a strong prediction and body weight with values of 0.895 and two years of age 0.538, and chest circumference of one year of age 0.674 and two years of age of chest circumference of 0.535. 2. Shoulder height has a strong relationship between singnification and body weight of goats.

Abstract

This research has been carried out at the Widya Mandira Kupang Mipa Laboratory (UNWIRA), from February to April 2019. The material used in this study was 1 kg of thigh beef and 3 kg dried rosella petals (Hibiscus sabdariffa Linn). The method used is a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments given are R0 = Beef + Spices, R1 = Beef + Spices + Nitrate 200 ppm, R2 = Beef + Spices + Rosella Extract 40%, R3 = Beef + Spices + Roselle Extract 60%. The purpose of this study was to determine what antioxidant value, water content, pH and total phenolic beef jerky after being cured using rosella extract, and to determine the effect of rosella extract as a natural antioxidant substitute for nitrate in curing beef jerky. Based on the results of this study it can be concluded that in the R3 sample with the addition of 60% roselle extract concentration can increase the total value of beef jerky phenolic value of 0.650 mg / g. And the addition of nitrate in the R1 sample was able to reduce the pH value and moisture content and increase the antioxidant value of beef jerky, for the beef jerky pH value was 5.3, and the water content value was 16.331%, the pH value and water content value was the best because it was in accordance with SNI . Thus it can be concluded also that samples with the addition of nitrate still play a more effective role compared to 40% and 60% rosella extract samples.
