Abstract

This article reveals the dynamics of local communities in Papua in accommodating differences between them. Those different ethnic and cultural communities, are able to build social relations through cultural mechanisms. Using the ethnographic approach this article reveals that Papuan people have a strong cultural capital to relate existing differences. Through communal culture, exchange relation in the form of enjoying eating together, religion of relatives, and the culture of one stone stove made of three stone, as well as inter-clans marriage become the mechanism that becomes elements of social glue between the community members. Although tribal conflicts often occur, traditional communities have a way of handling conflict through cultural mechanisms, such as "eating together", "burning stones" and accompanied by slaughter of sacrificial animals.

Abstract

Practically religion and culture can’t be separated, although in the theoretical sphere they can be separated. Religion can be practiced by its adherents through culture. Basically Religion comes to humans who had been had a culture. Long before the coming of religion, in fact people with their intellect and conscience are able to have a noble culture, which saves each other and is able to create a harmonious life. However, it is precisely in this modern era when humans who claim to reach the peak of advanced culture, it is often a conflict in the name of religion. The birth of religion should be to complete the noble culture, in the contrary, religion and local culture indeed experience tension which trigger conflict sometimes. Humans who only had cultured, can life together in harmony although pre-religions. Unfortunately when there comes aren’t time in which religion and culture have been developed of there life aren’t harmonious. This paper will discuss the relationship between religion and culture in relation to conflict. Analysis of the crisis of modernity which also result in narrow-mindedness cause the emergence of conflic.

Abstract

Visual expression is something un-denayable in social life because the viasuality is the expression of the social life. This article has the purpose to explore how visual expression of women resistance toward gender inequality. Applying qualitative research with the method of documentation study this article in detail analyses the interpretation of religious text as the source of inequality and gender reality in social context. It is revealed that visual expression of the poster suggesting to treat men and women respectfully is the resistance toward religious text interpretation which is inequally treat men and women.

Abstract

One of the indicators of a developed faculty is the numbers of department organized by the faculty. In order to develop the faculty, the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, the State Islamic University Walisongo had planned to prepare a new department. Applying the method of survey as a preliminary study, this research was purposed as tracer study. The research questions are those related to job acceptance of the alumni and how long the alumni to get job after they finish their study, it was revealed that the Department of International Relations and the Department of Public Administration have been assumed to be priorities. This study focused on six famous and highest rank state universities in Java having mentioned departments. Based on this research result, it was recommended to heads of the State Islamic University Walisongo to set up the Department of International Relations and the Department of Public Administration as the effort for developing the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences.

Abstract

This article related to the dynamic of islam intellectual network in Cirebon post Sunan Gunung Jati in the late of 16 century until early of 18 century. This era has been crucial because every dynamic of islam intellectual network happened after the death of Sunan Gunung Jati. Then the implication had headed to the existence of islamic education institution which is held in Keraton, one of the basis where islamic intellectual network in Cirebon, and also to the dominant intellectual discourse that evolved for two centuries. There are three stages of islam intellectual network progress in Indonesia which is related to middle east as a center and also main reference since 13 century untill 20 century. Firts, islamisasi (islamisation). This was when Islam for the first time spreaded by moslem’s traders, travelers, and moslem scholars (ulama). This happened around 13 century. Second, neo-sufism. Neo sufism has occured for 3 centuries, since 16 centuries till 18 centuries. In this era some moslem scholars have had significant roles to disseminate knowledge and movement from middle east to Nusantara. And third, purification of islam. Some moslem scholars that have already finished their study and hajj became active to spread the ideas of purification of islam which developed in middle east.

Abstract

Every ethnic in Indonesia have an unique local wisdom. This local wisdom is usually used to resolve any problems or conflicts. And most conflict that have happened in Indonesia is SARA. SARA is an acronym for suku (ethnict), agama (religion), ras (race), dan antar golongan (amongst group community). From social economic problem, cultural, religion, or even political problem such as election of head village and presidential election in Indonesia is related to SARA conflict. Local wisdom is every values, norms, rules, that live in society. This local wisdom binds people and become the way of life in society. This paper would try to contribute how local wisdom have significant role to build social harmony in society. And all datas that have been collected for this paper are the collection of research from all over Indonesia to build harmony based on local wisdom.

Abstract

The article discuss about ecology among fisherman community who use cantrang nets in Tasik Agung village, Rembang Regency. The purpose in this research is to know the local wisdom in Utilizing cantrang nets and the impact of banning the use of cantrang nets. This research uses qualitative method. The result of this research in analized by using determinisme theory from Julian Steawerd and concept of adaptation and environment form Kaplan. The result of this study indicate that the cultural system and local knowledge in the community Tasik Agung village is a prcess of understanding the environtment. And the prohibition of the use of nets cantrang overall impact not only the fisherman who feel but the wider community also impact.
