Abstract

City bias development especially DKI Jakarta effects on the high rate of urbanization, where abundant workforce from rural areas work as an informal economy workers as street vendor (PKL). Eviction for PKL still happens in recent time although ineffective. The qualitative method is used with study case empowered by life history for revealing the vulnerability and survival strategy of PKL. Result shows that earn income same as minimum wage regional in Jakarta by PKL is not a problem, there are two factors as PKL’s vulnerability which come from the external aspect, that are eviction and number of the costumer. Adaptation for following the change of rule and bridging with stakeholders are the main strategies by PKL to survive, biside same of identity and norm of PKL have function as cohesivity adhesive to face life. Finally, risignation value to God and effort for development are determinant aspect which differs between PKL who have more or less revenue Pembangunan bias perkotaan khususnya di DKI Jakarta berdampak pada terjadinya tingginya urbanisasi, dimana kelebihan tenaga kerja desa bekerja sebagai pekerja sektor informal seperti menjadi pedagang kaki lima (PKL). Penggusuran masih terjadi sampai saat ini khususnya bagi para PKL meskipun tidak efektif. Metode kualitatif dengan studi kasus digunakan yang diperkuat dengan life history untuk mengungkapkan kerenantan dan strategi bertahan para rumah tangga PKL. Hasilnya ternyata mendapatkan penghasilan setara UMR di Jakarta bagi PKL bukanlah sebuah permasalahan, terdapat dua faktor kerentanan PKL yang cenderung berasal dari aspek eksternal yaitu penggusuran dan jumlah konsumen. Adaptasi untuk mengikuti perubahan aturan dan bridging dengan para pihak adalah strategi utama agar PKL dapat bertahan, disamping satu identitas dan norma-norma PKL sebagai perekat kebersamaan menghadapi kehidupan. Terakhir nilai-nilai kepasrahan kepada Tuhan dan semangat untuk terus maju adalah aspek yang menentukan perbedaan sikap antara mereka yang memiliki pendapatan besar dan kecil.

Abstract

Indonesia is considered unable to handle problems amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The number of work termination (PHK) continues to increase, the debt for countermeasures is also getting bigger, but the pandemic has not been resolved. The concept of the 2014 Mental Revolution should be able to deal with the problems of Indonesian society at critical times. The concept is no longer heard while the public has not lived it. This paper aims to examine the concept of mental revolution during the COVID 19 pandemic. This article uses qualitative research methods, which are literature research. The data in this study were obtained and obtained from the literature. Data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing were the data analysis methods used. The analysis results show that the concept of mental revolution in this pandemic situation needs to be echoed again to move dynamically, adjusting the conditions of society during the pandemic period. The concept of mental revolution in community character does not lose the spirit of cooperation in facing both mentally and economically crises. In addition, the policy of shifting to an online system tests the workforce's integrity. However, it has also succeeded in triggering a work ethic and cooperation towards a digital society so that a mental revolution plays a significant role in this situation. Therefore, the Mental Revolution in the series of the Nawacita agenda is expected to run well, continuously, and full of enthusiasm and cooperation in its implementation to survive the pandemic era and achieve national development.

Abstract

Street vendor (Pedagang Kaki Lima - PKL) is the most incarnation of the informal economy with the biggest role even at the state level. Unfortunately, PKL is blamed as the source of problems and is surrounded by the threat of eviction, which still happened in DKI Jakarta, as the symbol and magnet of development in Indonesia. This study aims to reveal the vulnerability of the PKL in the Golden Triangle of Jakarta and the defensive strategies they carry out. The qualitative method with a case study strengthened by life history for revealing the vulnerability and survival strategy of the PKL household is applied in this study. The result shows the unforeseeable fact that PKL in Triangle Gold of DKI Jakarta potentially can reach an income as same as the regional minimum wage in DKI Jakarta. At the same time, the eviction and number of customers are the PKL’s vulnerability factors. Social capital is essential to start a new job or business as PKL, while strengthened by push and pulling factors to migrate from rural to city. Bridging and bonding with stakeholders through adaptation to the changing rule are the PKL’s main strategies to survive; besides, preserving the identity and norms of PKL boosts the PKL community's adhesion to encounter hard times. Beyond that, resignation value to God and effort for growing are determinant aspects that differ between PKL who have more or less revenue.

Abstract

The hegemony of masculinity tends to benefit more on one side, man. It is interesting to observe the change of masculinity in men with time. The dynamics proceeded to pertain to the psychological, economic, social, and symbolic representation. This study aimed to reveal both the narrative identities of elderly masculinity and the psychological dynamics that accompanied the lifespan of an older man. This study used hermeneutic-phenomenological approaches, with critical narrative analysis developed from Paul Ricoeur’s hermeneutics. Five older men, who live in a geriatric house in Yogyakarta, participated in this study. The results showed that the face of elderly masculinity was paradoxical masculinity. At the ideal level, the older men appropriated hegemonic masculinity but at the level of reality, they were in the marginalized masculinity position. Masculine subjects had experienced the maturation effect of togetherness with their wife. Wife has been an important subject and medium for growing the elderly masculinity and maintaining traditional manhood. The Paradox and their intersection with the complexity of the psychological dynamics made older men offer wiser masculinity and transform into positive masculinity such as gratitude, acceptance of life, sincerity, and caring.

Abstract

The high rate of child marriage has become a global community concern, including in Indonesia as the world's biggest Muslim country. This study explores the views and experiences of Muslim girls and local actors of early marriage in rural areas of Java, Indonesia. Applying the qualitative research method and case study approach, this research is performed in a hamlet on mount Sumbing. This study concluded that young-women marriage is still considered as normal and acceptable from a socio-cultural perspective. For the local community, marrying their child at a very young age will guarantee labour availability, psychological security in old age and strengthen family bonds. The seriousness of life's challenges towards adulthood leads marriage at a young age to become a choice of socio-psychological coping mechanisms idealized by some young women. This phenomenon is also influenced by the existing local socio-cultural values that place marriage as a solution to socio-economic, socio-cultural problems and guarantee future generations' continuity.

Abstract

Creative economy is not only contributed toward social welfare but also creates identity. This case study takes place in Kendal Regency Central Java Province. The purposes of this study are to observe the creative economy landscape, to give initial data and conceptual input for the Kendal Regency Government to conceptualize their city branding. As exploratory research, this research is using mixed methods. Quantitative descriptive data was gathered by the survey on the creative economy subsectors. Qualitative data were taken from non-participant observation, semistructured interviews, and literature review. This exploratory study found that 10 of 16 creative economy subsectors have existed in Kendal Regency. They are visual communication design; product design; film, animation, video; photography; craft art; culinary; fashion; art performance; and music. These clusters can be used as city identity to formulate city branding, especially the craft art; culinary, film, animation, video; and art performance. Unfortunately, these potential resources were not involved on city branding created by the local government. In symbolic interactionism, people and their environment influence each other in culture-making processes. And so, in the processes of city branding. All the elements of the city should be in synergy to make a city branding. Abstract

The island market has become the culture of the small-island community that was formed due to limited transportation facilities, the market only exists at certain times. Markets develop from the process of exchanging goods between people coming from different places and profession. This study aims to describe the process of commodity marketing, the role of papalele in the exchange of farmers' and fishermen's products, and the commodity market formed in society. This research uses a case study approach because of a typical island market that only exists on small islands such as Saparua Island. The informants consisted of fifteen papalele mothers spread over fifteen regions in the island (negeri) and always carried out activities to the island market in Saparua City. The research results showed that the marketing process for agricultural commodities begins with an exchange between farmers and fishermen. Then it developed with various exchange processes with the presence of papalele women. Commodities eventually developed with the movement of papalele as a collector at the region level, and later became recipients of pawns for agricultural commodities, even collecting agricultural and fishery commodities from the region around where they lived. Abstract

Coastal village communities in Indonesia experience significant socio-economic disparities which make them more vulnerable as the marine ecosystem is badly affected by global warming. Concrete action needs to be conducted to resolve the problem better and do not make the coastal village communities poorer. This study aims to describe the empowerment program of coastal village communities through Village-Owned Enterprises (BUM Desa - Badan Usaha Milik Desa) in Gebang Village, Teluk Pandan Subdistrict and Durian Village, Padang Cermin Subdistrict, Pesawaran District, Lampung Province. Applying qualitative methods involved documentary study and in-depth interviews this research showed that in Gebang Village, there were empowerment efforts carried out by Mitra Bentala and CSR JAPFA Company Comfeed Indonesia Tbk as external supporting organizations. Inhibiting factors were the division of responsibilities and authorities among stakeholders who did not have a structure yet. Gebang Village used a participatory model, meanwhile, Durian Village combined endogenous (bottom-up) and community-based development models in their community empowerment.
