Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Inadequate nutritional intake can hinder the growth and development of toddlers, particularly those suffering from stunting. One strategy to address stunting is to improve toddler nutrition by providing foods rich in omega-3, protein, and calcium, such as catfish. BABY CHIPS PROKA, made from catfish bone flour, is one such complementary feeding innovation. This study aims to investigate the effect of BABY CHIPS PROKA, a catfish bone-based complementary food product, on the weight gain of stunted toddlers. Methods: This research employed a quantitative approach using a true experimental design with a two-group pre-post control test. The population consisted of 333 stunted toddlers. A cluster sampling technique was applied, resulting in a sample of 68 toddlers, divided equally into intervention and control groups. Statistical analysis included the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test to assess differences before and after the intervention within each group. Results: The Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test showed a significant difference in weight gain in the intervention group (p = <0.001 < 0.05). Conclusion: The provision of BABY CHIPS PROKA as a complementary food significantly improves the body weight of stunted toddlers. Therefore, BABY CHIPS PROKA is recommended as a complementary nutritional intervention to support weight gain and improve the nutritional status of stunted toddlers.

Abstract

Background: Postpartum depression (PPD) is a common mental health issue that occurs after childbirth and can negatively impact the health of mothers and the development of their children. Addressing PPD requires a practical approach that includes the use of antidepressant therapy with Telehealth Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), which is expected to enhance post partum recovery. This review explores the comparative effectiveness of using antidepressants and implementing IPT in the recovery process from postpartum depression. Methods: This study reviewed and analyzed scientific articles from databases such as PubMed, ScienceDirect, Springer Link, and Google Scholar using PRISMA-ScR framework. A total of 14 original articles were selected based on inclusion and exclusion discussing the effectiveness of antidepressants and IPT. Results: The evidence demonstrated that antidepressant interventions, including conventional antidepressants and newer neuroactive steroid therapies, were generally associated with improvements in depressive symptoms. Telehealth IPT also demonstrated improvements in depressive outcomes and may provide an accessible alternative. However, substantial heterogeneity was observed in study designs, intervention characteristics, treatment duration, outcome measures, and follow-up periods, limiting direct comparison between pharmacological and telehealth-based IPT interventions. Conclusion: Both antidepressants and telehealth IPT effectively reduce PPD symptoms and enhance maternal well-being. However, further research is needed to understand these interventions' long-term impacts and explore the various types of available antidepressants.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes is a global health issue that currently receives widespread attention. Indonesia, a tropical archipelagic nation and a hotspot for biodiversity, offers a rich array of natural resources, making the use of herbal plants or traditional medicine a popular treatment option among the public. This study aims to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis regarding the effect of THM (traditional herbal medicine) on blood sugar reduction in patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: This study aims to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis regarding the effect of THM (traditional herbal medicine) on blood sugar reduction in patients with type 2 diabetes. This study was conducted using a systematic review method followed by meta-analysis, which is a statistical technique to quantitatively combine the findings from previous studies. Results: The review found that the intervention of boiling leaves of bay leaf (PMD: -39.09 mg/dL), moringa leaves (PMD: -50.98 mg/dL), and ginger (PMD: -53.45 mg/dL) significantly influenced blood sugar reduction in patients with type 2 diabetes (p-value < 0.001). Conclusion: The analysis shows a significant reduction in blood sugar in type 2 diabetes patients after the administration of ginger, bay leaf, and moringa leaf decoctions, with a decrease of 5.83 mg/dL per day. Health professionals can provide appropriate education on their use alongside standard diabetes management.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: BKKBN plays a crucial role in implementing the family planning program, promoting the use of Long-Term Contraceptive Methods.(LCM) due to their high effectiveness and very low risk of failure. The use of LCM in Sleman Community Health Centers remains low, at only 41% compared to non-LCM users. The role of midwives is one aspect that contributes to the use of LCM. This study aims to analyze the relationship between role of midwives and the use of LCM in women of childbearing age at the Sleman Community Health Center. Methods: The research method applied in this study is observational using a cross-sectional approach. The population studied included all active participants in the family planning program at the Sleman Health Center with a total of 268 people and the sample taken amounted to 73 family planning participants collected using quota sampling techniques. Data collection employed questionnaires. Data analysis in this study was carried out using univariate and bivariate approaches through the Chi-Square test. Results: The results showed that the majority of respondents (49 people (67.1%) received a good midwife's role, with 48 respondents (65.8%) using LCM. Bivariate analysis using the Chi-Square test obtained a  P = <0,001 (P<0,05). Conclusion: Women of childbearing age who get support and a good midwife role have a greater tendency to choose LCM than those who get a bad midwife role. It is suggested that women of childbearing age or their partners can be more proactive in seeking information related to contraceptive methods that suit their conditions and needs.

Abstract

Background: Fat is a major macronutrient in breast milk, and its concentration varies according to multiple factors, including stage of lactation, time of collection, milk fraction, feeding duration, maternal diet, and maternal body mass index (BMI). Alterations in breast milk fat composition may influence infant growth patterns and long-term metabolic health. This study aimed to examine the association between maternal BMI and the fat content of expressed breast milk. Methods: An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted at the Medical Basic Chemistry Laboratory, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sriwijaya. Breast milk samples were obtained from 63 breastfeeding mothers in Palembang City, comprising 30 mothers with normal BMI and 33 mothers with obese BMI. Breast milk fat concentration was measured using the glycerol-3-phosphate oxidase–phenol aminophenazone (GPO-PAP) method. Data were analyzed using an independent t-test. Results: The mean fat concentration of breast milk from mothers with normal BMI was 3786.7±743.2 mg/dL, whereas that from mothers with obese BMI was 4339.2±958.0 mg/dL. A statistically significant difference in fat concentration was observed between the two groups (p=0.014). Conclusion: Maternal BMI is significantly associated with the fat content of expressed breast milk, with higher fat concentrations observed in mothers with obese BMI. These findings imply that maternal nutritional status should be considered in lactation counseling and infant feeding practices, particularly to optimize infant growth and metabolic outcomes.

Abstract

Background: Adolescents represent a vulnerable group susceptible to reproductive health risks, while the effectiveness of reproductive health education remains limited. Parents play a crucial role in shaping adolescents' knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors regarding reproductive health; however, their involvement is frequently impeded by cultural factors, social norms, and capacity constraints. This systematic review examines the role of parents as determinants of adolescent reproductive health education across diverse social and cultural contexts. Methods: This systematic review adhered to PRISMA 2020 guidelines. Literature searches were conducted in PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Taylor & Francis databases for articles published between 2020 and 2025. Study selection employed the PICOS framework and was performed independently by two reviewers, yielding 17 articles that were narratively synthesized. Results: Findings indicate that parents act as multidimensional determinants in adolescent reproductive health education through information dissemination, value formation, and behavior monitoring. Open and supportive communication is associated with improved knowledge and safer decision-making, whereas cultural norms, taboos, and literacy limitations represent primary barriers. Conclusion: Parental involvement through culturally sensitive and sustainable family-based interventions is essential for enhancing adolescent reproductive health. These findings highlight the need for healthcare professionals and policymakers to strengthen family-centered health education and develop culturally appropriate interventions that actively engage parents in supporting adolescents’ reproductive health.

Abstract

Background: Fear of labor pain may influence women's preferences during childbirth, highlighting the need for non-pharmacological approaches. Acupressure and breathing techniques have been used during labor; however, research has largely focused on effectiveness, while limited research has explored their practical application and adaptation to maternal condition and comfort in gentle birth. This study aimed to explore midwives' and doulas' experiences in applying these techniques during gentle birth. Methods: This study employed a qualitative descriptive design. Seven midwives/doulas were purposively selected as primary informants and interviewed until no new information emerged. One senior midwife and one Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner served as key and supporting informants, respectively. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed thematically. Ethical approval was obtained from the Nalanda Institute LRPM Team. Results: Acupressure application varied according to maternal condition and stage of labor, supporting contractions and labor progression, pain relief, and maternal comfort. Breathing techniques adapted to labor intensity and stage, progressing from deep abdominal breathing to vocalized and blowing breathing as contractions intensified and the baby was expelled. Conclusion: This study highlights the application of acupressure and breathing techniques in gentle birth. The findings provide insights into individualized non-pharmacological support and may inform midwifery and doula practice.
