Abstract

Phenomenology is precisely this deepening of self consciousness, this restless search for what lies back of the objects in which we ordinarily and scientifically lose our attention, or as we now call it our intention. Phenomenology is not merely the theory that this is so, but the putting it into practice, the urge to explore its interminable vistas. As a discipline, it is distinct from but related to other keys in philosophy: such as ontology, epistemology, logics, and ethics. The discipline of phenomenology is defined by its domain of study, its methods, and its main results. This paper globally makes a try at exploring the history and varieties of phenomenology. Phenomenology has been practiced in various guises for centuries, but it came into its down in the early 20th century in the works of Husserl, Heidegger, Merleau-Ponty and others. Phenomenological issues of intentionality, consciousness, and first-person perspective have been prominent in recent philosophy of mind.

Abstract

A bomb explosion in the City of London, England, not only shook Jasser Auda’s soul, but also increased the academic anxiety that encouraged him to start writing an important work in his academic career entitled Maqasid al-Shariah as Philosophy of Islamic Law. The peak of his anxiety is a fidgetiness accumulation that he experienced during the struggle with the academic world, especially Islamic law. The condition of Muslims at that time is increasingly culminating in the case of terrorism in London that took the name of Islamic law1 coupled with the low level of muslims human development index (HDI) indicated the inferioity as well as the low quality of Muslims both in terms of science, education, politics, economy, womens empowerment, and other capabilities that were still under of minimum standards2. Jasser Auda also felt an intellectual anxiety when finding the reality of Islamic law (fiqh) seemed to be lacking in solutions to the Islamic community in general. The anxieties here are not related to the material in Islamic law but to the understanding, thought, determination and implementation of Islamic law in the daily lives of Muslims in various countries.

Abstract

Islam is a dakwah religion, that obliges all adherents to convey the messages of the teachings contained in it as a life guidance. Therefore, all Muslims should convey the teachings of Islam to all mankind in a good way according to the instructions of the Quran and the Prophet Muhammad’s life style. Inter-religious communication in Palopo have been going well but do not reach the very satisfying point yet which is caused by several factors such as the lack of dialogue conducted by the followers of religious communities. Of course, they do it sometimes, but it is not intensive. This occurs because many religious leaders get busy, and even there are still people who consider that inter-religious communication is not necessary. In the perspective of dakwah, inter-religious communication is a must because Islam is the religion that was gifted to the Prophet Muhammad, by Allah, for all mankind because Islam is for all. Therefore, all people need to listen to and understand any information about Islam. Eventhough Islam itself must not be imposed to all mankind.
