Abstract

Mathematics learning media can help students understand abstract mathematical concepts, but the availability of learning media in school is still limited. This research aims to develop mathematics learning media in the form of learning model module learning cycle on algebra material for Junior High School Students in Grade VII, which is decent to apply in the process of learning mathematics. This research includes research development that using research and development methods, which consists of ten stages: potential and problem, data collection, product design, design validation, design revision, product trial, product revision, trial usage, product revision, and mass production. The object of this research is learning media that is a mathematics module, and the subjects are material experts, media experts, and students of State Junior High School 13 Tanjung Jabung Timur (SMPN 13 Tanjung Jabung Timur) and State Junior High School 21 Tanjung Jabung Timur (SMPN 21 Tanjung Jabung Timur). The data collection techniques are interviews, questionnaires, and observations. The data analysis technique uses a Likert analysis. The learning media product developed has been assessed and validated by three learning material experts and 3 mathematics learning media experts. The learning material experts' assessment results obtained with an average value of 97.67 indicate the category is very decent. The assessment results of learning media experts obtained with an average value of 61.33 indicate the category is decent. The assessment results of student responses obtained with an average value of 134.6105 show a very decent category. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the learning media, which is developed, is decent to apply in the learning mathematics process.

Abstract

Mathematic learning for the eighth-grade students at Muhammadiyah Junior high School Banguntaoan (SMP Muhammadiyah Banguntapan) Yogyakarta uses lecture method, discussion, and question and answer, which resulted in the students less enthusiastic during the mathematic lessons. Also, the mathematics lesson that is considered difficult, and the method is considered less fun is an obstacle for students to get a satisfactory mark. This research aims to find whether there are differences on students' result of learning mathematics using group investigation learning model and think pair share learning model and to compare the effectiveness of both models on the result of learning mathematics of the eighth-grade students of even semester at SMP Muhammadiyah Banguntapan Yogyakarta in the academic year 2016/2017. This research population is the eighth-grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah Banguntapan, which are class VIIIA, VIIIB, and VIIIC. The sample of this research is taken from two classes using a random sampling technique for the classes. It is obtained from the experiment class VIIIB and the experiment class VIIIA. The design of this research is the posttest-only control design. The data collection is obtained using the test method. The instrument is tested using validity, reliability, and different potency test. The data analysis technique used for prerequisite analysis tests is the normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis test. The result of this research at a significant level 5% and df= 60 indicates that: (1) There are differences in the students' learning mathematics results using the group investigation learning model and Think Pair Share learning model. It is showed by the value of and  so that  and (2) group investigation learning model is more effective than Think Pair Share learning model on the students’ result of learning mathematics. It is indicated by the value of and  so that .

Abstract

The strategies used in the teaching and learning process are still fixed on speech and discussions, so the result of student learning interest is low. Strategies that can be used to increase student’s interest in learning among them is Giving Question And Getting Answer (GIGA) and Index Card Match (ICM). GIGA is one of the active learning strategies to ask a question and receive a good answer used to involve students in repeating learning materials that have been delivered. ICM is an active learning strategy looking for a pleasant enough partner used to repeating learning materials that have been given before. This research aims to determine the effectiveness of mathematics learning by using strategy Giving Question And Getting Answer compared with Index Card Match strategy on mathematical learning outcomes students class XI IPS SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta in the second semester of the academic year 2016/2017. The design of this research is a posttest only control design. This research population is the student's class XI IPS Senior High School of Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta. Sample in this research was taken using simple random sampling obtained class XI IPS 2 as experiment class A and class XI IPS 1 as experiment class B. Data collection is done by a test method. Instrument testing uses validity and reliability. The data analysis technique using a prerequisite analysis test includes the normality test with the Chi-square formula, homogeneity test with Bartlett test, and hypothesis test with t-test. The results of the study are significant a=5%, and df=69 obtained the conclusion that : (1) There are differences in the results of learning mathematics students learning using the strategy of active learning Giving Question and Getting Answer with learning using strategy of active learning type Index Card Match. This is indicated by the results of the first hypothesis test that tcount =2,0318 > ttabel = 1,9949. (2) Learning using strategy of active learning type Giving Question And Getting Answer more effective than learning using the active learning strategy of Index Card Match type. This is shown from the result of the second hypothesis test that tcount=2,0318> ttabel=1,6672.

Abstract

Based on the result of interviews and observations, I found the problem that became the reason for this research. One of that is the learning model commonly used in Muhammadiyah Junior High School 1 Yogyakarta (SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta) has not been optimal to create mathematics learning interaction of students. This research aims to determine (1) the presence or absence of difference in mathematics learning interaction between a student is taught using cooperative learning model Think Pair Share (TPS) type with students taught using direct learning model and (2) which learning model is more effective between cooperative learning model Think Pair Share (TPS) type with direct learning model toward mathematics learning interaction of students. The type of this research is quantitative research, using experimental design. The population in this research was the students of regular class VII in SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Yogyakarta, even semester academic year 2016/2017. Research sampling done by random sampling toward class, selected VII F class as the experimental class, and VII G class as the control class. Technique data collection using the observation method. The prerequisite analysis test used a normality test using the Chi-square formula and homogeneity test using the Bartlett test. Data analysis used a hypothesis test using a t-test with a significant 5% level and degrees of freedom 61. Based on the results of the hypothesis, I test obtained  and . Because , so  is accepted. So, concluded that there is no difference in mathematics learning interaction between students taught using cooperative learning model Think Pair Share (TPS) type with students taught using a direct learning model. Because of the hypothesis, I obtained no difference, and then the hypothesis II test is not needed to continue. So, concluded that the cooperative learning model Think Pair Share (TPS) type is not more effective than the direct learning model.

Abstract

Learning media in the learning process of mathematics can help students understand the abstract mathematical concept and make learning more exciting and interactive. However, in reality, at school, the availability of instructional media is still limited. This study aims to develop a suitable learning media based on Macromedia flash eight on the arithmetic social subject for grade VII SMP/MTs in learning mathematics. The research includes research and development using Research and Development (R&D) research methods with the following steps: potential and problem, data collection, product design, design validation, design improvement, product testing, product revision, trial use, product revision, and the final product. The research subjects are media experts, subject experts, and students of grade VII State Junior High School 1 Yogyakarta (SMP N 1 Yogyakarta) and State Junior High School 1 Kalasan (SMP N 1 Kalasan). The data are analyzing techniques using qualitative analysis that converted into a form of quantitative value. The data collecting techniques are using interviews, observations, and questionnaires. The product of learning media that has been developed was assessed and validated by three math experts learning media and three math experts learning subject. The assessment of media experts resulted in an outstanding qualitative category. The assessment of subject experts resulted in an outstanding qualitative category, and the student assessment resulted in an excellent qualitative category. Based on those results, it can be concluded that the learning media that has been developed is appropriate for the use of the mathematics learning process.
