Abstract

At first glance natah seems equal to a house yard. Yet, if we trace deeply that natah has the unique concept that is completely diverse with house yard. Its uniqueness can be not released from the distinctiveness of Balinese community life thus natah has the significant role in Balinese community life.Natah has some important roles in Balinese community life. First of all, natah has a certain place hence it has not just meaning as a space but also as a place. Second, natah is as orientation of buildings surrounding. Third, natah has a certain dimension that is taken from the body measurement of the household head or the Hindu Priest by doubling it be based on a certain sloka as index of provider character. Fourth, natah has the use as profane area and also as sacred area that is as place of the religious ritual. Fifth, natah has three meanings i.e. the meaning of emptiness, the meaning of harmony between micro cosmos and macro cosmos and the meaning of companionship between purusa and pradana.

Abstract

The house that expresses Traditional Balinese Building, is still interested and kept up by Balinese community, and this is also supported by local policy regarding to the utilize of Balinese Traditional Building. However, the ability of community to realize it is enormously limited related to the economic aptitude. It seems that it is crucial to create a building material that offer a strongly traditional impressed without ought to spend the high cost and simply processing.In Bali, the efforts to produce it, has already exist for instance the use of wall covered by using soil refined. That method that is employed by community, will be valuable if we combine with the new technology for example the brick traditionally technology combined with Habiteck Park will result the Balinese traditionally building material with low cost and simply processing.The result of this paper require to be pursued by intensely research to obtain a linked brick that be intended both intern of composition material and the various and precisely forms, thus this could be useful and present a high economic value in keeping up the effort to facilitate the house that that be able to fulfilled for Balinese community need without leave the Balinese Traditional Architecture Style.

Abstract

Phenomenon of traditional housing in Indonesia is a culture expression of local community, not only its have relation with their building physics, but also the spirit and soul. Housing phenomenon by vernacular community of Indonesia which have mean to be a space to built their religion. As their perception to nature, they build housing base on geometry forms to perceive the appreciation of nature and the Creator. Orientation is required by man as a himself orientation, and symmetrical means a basic human balance as their solemnity for God. This paper describes religious phenomenon of vernacular community in Indonesia in to geometry and symmetrical forms that they being their identity expression of housing.

Abstract

Stair in Balinese traditional house is a link between the open space (natah) and the building floor. Essentially, the rise and the tread of stair are defined strongly by the traditional norms and techniques. The stairs as product of traditional innovation is most likely the ergonomics aspect having been taken into account as an important aspect. Based on that reason, it is essential to conduct research in order to explore and investigate the ergonomics aspect of design stair on Balinese traditional house. The research shows that between the stair dimension and the anthropometrics of the house owner have closely relationship, and its design has required the safety and comfortable of the user.

Abstract

Balinese Traditional Housing and Settlement is a place of unity and harmonious life that has a traditionally pattern and consists of three elements i.e. element of the village temple (kahyangan tiga), element of the village inhabitants (krama desa), and element of the village region (karang desa) and predominantly based on traditionally norm and value background. The Balinese Traditional Housing and Settlement is in essence sustained by concepts such as: harmonious relations between Bhuana Agung with Bhuana Alit, Manik Ring Cucupu, Tri Hita Karana, Tri Angga, Hulu-Teben till developing the value arrangement of Sanga Mandala that offers the guidance to the spatial pattern both on the house and the settlement scale. In this study, those concepts are mainly concluded into four aspects in the Balinese Traditional Housing and Settlement such as: a social, symbolic, morphology and functional aspects.
