Abstract

One of the objectives of national development is to improve the performance of the economy in order to createjobs and organize a decent life for all the people who in turn will realize the welfare of the population. One of themain indicators of the success of national development is the rate of decrease in the number of poor people. Thepurpose of this study was to determine: 1) direct influence between education, wages, and unemployment to thepercentage of the poor; 2) the influence of education and the level of wages indirectly to the percentage of poorpeople through unemployment in the district / city of Bali province. This study uses secondary data analysis PathAnalysis. The results showed showed that the negative effect of education on unemployment and wages positiveeffect on unemployment. Education and wage levels negatively affect the percentage of poor and unemployed positiveeffect on the percentage of poor people. In addition there is an indirect effect of education and wage levels on thepercentage of poor people through unemployment, in other words, unemployment is mediating variables in theinfluence of education and the level of wages on the percentage of poor people in the district / city of Bali province.

Abstract

Tourism is one of the development activities with high growth prospects. The concern for poverty in touristdestinations becomes the attention of scholars, tourist components, and tourists. Attempts which were made toeradicate poverty, among others are : to engage and make the community as tourism subjects who participateddirectly in alleviating poverty. One district in Bali that support and develop tourism is Karangasem regency. The slowpace of the community in participating in tourism, caused by mental attitude of the society who don’t have idea howto get out of the poverty cycle, so the motivation to work productively still low. There is a positive influence on thedevelopment of tourism on the economic changes of society, especially livelihood. Tourism provides an opportunitychange people’s livelihood that increasingly widespread. The development of the first advanced society has a rolein influencing other people to change mental motivation to work better. Utilization of skills as a fisherman is offsetby enhancement of opportunities for diving tourists, which can be utilized as a sideline to supplement their incomeopportunities.

Abstract

Nutmeg (Myristica Fragrans Houtt) is known as herb plants that have high economic value and multifunction.Every part of the plant can be utilized in various industries. Seeds, mace and nutmeg oil are export commodities andare used in the food and beverage industry. Moreover, the oil derived from the seeds, mace and leaves are widelyused for industrial pharmaceuticals, perfumes and cosmetics. Thus, if nutmeg is managed wisely, it can increasethe income of people who working on it. Seith village is one of the areas in the coastal region particularly in LeihituDistrict Central Maluku district which has the largest land with the highest cultivation of nutmeg (Myristica frangans)which is 326.5 ha compared to other villages in the region, and has some RTU nutmeg oil that was not well developedand be bogged down. This will greatly affect the agricultural sector’s contribution to the economy of the region ..The Declining of diversified products such as nutmeg oil due to a lack of raw materials supply as a result of lowpurchase price offered by cooperative to society and high price of as it must be purchased from Ambon; whereas theabsence of the processed nutmeg flesh was caused by low perspective towards the prospects of processed nutmegflesh and nescience of nutmeg farmers on processing the nutmeg flesh into other products.

Abstract

This research aimed to explore the factors that influence the age at first marriage of women in Bali. It is importantand urgent to carry out given the results of Indonesia Demographic Health Survey of 2007 and 2012 that showedan increase in the total fertility rate of Bali’s population from 2.1 to 2.3 per woman of reproductive age during the2007-2012 period. Even the more crucial thing was the increase in the fertility rate that in fact occurred in theyounger age group (15-19), which was from 18 to 48 per 1000 women during the period of 2007-2012. This conditionindicates that lately early marriage tended to increase.This research was conducted in three areas, namely Bangli, Gianyar and Denpasar. The selection of these threeregions is based on the structure of the economy, with the following details: (1) Bangli represents a region withthe economic structure that largely oriented towards Primary Sectors, (2) Gianyar represents a region with nearlybalanced economic structure between Primary and Non-Primary Sectors and (3 ) Denpasar represents the area witheconomic structure of Tertiary Sectors (services). In each region, it was selected four villages (except in Denpasarthat was for five villages), and the selection of villages was done randomly. Furthermore, of all selected villages, itwas chosen as many as 600 respondents randomly. Respondents were the wifes of the couples who got marriedwithin the last five years (2009-2013). The data collection was conducted by using structured interviews, and dataanalysis technique used was multiple linear regression.Important conclusions obtained from the research were (1) the respondents’ education, access to mass media, thevalue of assets of the parents, and the working status, respectively had a positive effect on the age at first marriage;(2) the number of family members, the habit of parents encourage their children to get married at the youngerage, and the better treatment of parents of boys than girls would negatively affect the age at first marriage (3) theknowledge about early marriage did not affect the age at first marriage; and (4) the respondents who were marriedbecause of “MBA” (married by accident), their first age of marriage were younger than those who got married notbecause of “MBA”. Furthermore, based on the above findings, it can be suggested the following recommendations(1) the improvement education for women; (2) poverty alleviation; (3) the expansion of employment opportunitiesfor women; and (4) BKKBN as the Family Planning Coordinating Agency which have already introduced a programof GenRe / Generation Planning in several educational institutions and religious organizations needs to be enhancedthe coverage and increased the intensity of the activities.

Abstract

Tourism and poverty’s phenomenon had already been known since the birth of human civilization. In the 1980spoverty became a serious concern of practitioners and scholars in various part of the world, including Indonesia.Poverty is not only understood in understanding as an abstract concept, but also as a reality of economic injusticeand inability to meet basic human needs in some rich countries but also in many developing countries in theworld. The problem of poverty is a fundamental and tourism is one of the many ways to solve this. The objectiveof this paper is to study the role of tourism to poverty alleviation including: 1) to analyze the influence of tourismdevelopment toward economic performance; 2) to analyze the effect of economic performance on poverty eradication;3) to analyze the influence of tourism on poverty alleviation; 4) to formulate a strategy to increase tourism’s rolein poverty alleviation in Badung Regency. This study uses quantitative approach supported by secondary data andqualitative approach using primary data obtained through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions. Researchwas conducted in South Badung Regency in the most developed tourism growth and considered the richest districtamong all regencies in Bali Regencies. Various attempts have been made to alleviate poverty, however have notbeen able to resolve poverty problems.

Abstract

As an economic, business and government center in Bali Province, Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar and Tabananare well known as Sarbagita is the center of people attention, especially in trying to find a job. But the living costin destination area is more expensive than the place where they live, this is why they change their mobility patternfrom permanent mobility to non-permanent mobility. In last 4 years, there is about 14 percent of employee inSarbagita who work outside their residences. This percentage shown many people take economy benefits of mobility.But this situation is not always give an advantage, because of facilities and infrastructures are required to avoid areducing in economy benefit of mobility. We need information about characteristics of people who work by nonpermanentmobility around Sarbagita and also information about contribution and relationship form between peoplecharacteristics and their decision to work by non-permanent mobility. This information is used to identify the patternand needs of that employee. To seek further this information, it;s to be used National Labour Force Survey (Sakernas)August 2014 data and focused in employee who work by non-permanent mobility around Sarbagita. Descriptiveanalysis is used to seek information about characteristics of people who work by non-permanent mobility aroundSarbagita. Only 1.89 percent of them use public transportation as their daily transportation. We also use logisticregression analysis to find contribution and relationship form between people characteristics and their decision towork by non-permanent mobility. Male employee who work in service area with a younger age, a higher wage and ahigher education tend to decide working by non-permanent mobility around Sarbagita. Economy needs of marriedpeople does not give a significant contribution to decide working by non-permanent mobility around Sarbagita.
