Abstract

This paper discusses the socio-cultural integration of coastal communities in Baurung Village, East Banggae District, Majene Regency. This paper aims to analyze the forms of socio-cultural integration of coastal communities in Baurung Village, East Banggae District, Majene Regency. In this paper, the author has the main focus of his study on social interaction, local cultural values and socio-cultural integration and adaptation between ethnic groups that live side by side in the area. This paper uses a qualitative approach using descriptive methods, data obtained through field observations conducted by researchers in the Baurung Village area. Then conducting in-depth interviews with the Baurung Village community and conducting documentation. The results of this study indicate that socio-cultural integration in Baurung Village can be seen from the existence of events or traditions such as the celebration of the fisherman's party (Mappasso), mutual cooperation (Sirondo-rondoi), social services, buying and selling activities and so on. From several of these activities, the involvement of several individual actors who interact with each other in a structured manner has a match with the structural functionalism theory put forward by Talcott Parson. The factors that drive socio-cultural integration are the adaptation of existing values that are still believed in by the community, tolerance between coastal community groups, and collective participation in social, cultural and religious activities.

Abstract

Villages with traditional communities within them with all the uniqueness and character of their community life must be a special concern for the government. The government should be involved in developing and preserving customs, local wisdom, and existing cultural values. As is the case with Tompobulu village with the Karampuang traditional community within it, it is necessary to create a good partnership pattern between the government and customs. One of the main issues in this study is related to the partnership between the government and customs regarding the handling of pregnant women and childbirth in an effort to innovate Good Governance, especially at the village level. This study then found that a partnership had been established between the government and customs, although not yet optimally.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the forms of subordination and marginalization experienced by women in accessing higher education in rural areas of Gowa Regency. Using a qualitative approach through case studies in six villages, this study explores the subjective experiences of female and male students in the context of gender inequality. The research findings show that strong patriarchal norms, domestic roles attached to women, and low family support are the main obstacles for women to continue their higher education. In addition, economic factors and gender-biased social constructions reinforce the marginalization of women, both structurally and culturally. Although the number of female students is increasing, their strategic role in higher education is still very limited. This study recommends the need for affirmative policies, the provision of gender-friendly educational facilities, and social change campaigns to create fair and equal access to education for women in rural areas.
