Abstract

This study aims to examine how local cultural expressions are modified and capitalized through the live feature on the TikTok platform, and how this practice shapes a new form of creative economy in the digital era. The research employs a cultural anthropology approach through qualitative methods, including participatory observation and in-depth interviews with five content creators from regions with strong cultural backgrounds. The findings show that creators consciously package elements of culture, such as traditional dances, traditional clothing, and local languages, into formats that are engaging and easily accepted by a global audience. This process not only serves as a form of cultural preservation in the digital medium, but also generates significant economic profit for the creators. TikTok live proves to be a new space for negotiating identity and economy, where cultural expressions are commodified to attract attention and financial support from viewers. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that digital platforms, particularly TikTok, have created a new landscape for cultural and economic practices, where creativity and local heritage are converted into sources of income. This study contributes to the understanding of the relationship between culture, economy, and technology in the context of digital society.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of gender discrimination on female dropout rates and their access to employment opportunities in Makassar City, Indonesia. This study used a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews with 30 women aged 15 to 30 who dropped out of school or had difficulty accessing employment. The results showed that female dropout rates ranged from 15-20%, which was caused by social norms that prioritize women's traditional roles, lack of family support, and economic constraints. Only 25% of women from low-income families continued their education to college. Gender discrimination also hinders women from accessing formal employment, with the majority trapped in the informal sector with low incomes. This study highlights the need for effective policy interventions to improve education and employment opportunities for women. These findings provide insights for policy makers to create an environment that supports gender equality in education and employment, while changing public perceptions about women's roles. This study is expected to be a reference for efforts to improve women's welfare in Makassar.

Abstract

The Moi people are one of the ethnic groups originating from Papua, Indonesia. The Moi people live in a relatively remote area, where their traditions and social structures have developed in distinctive and diverse ways, depending on the social and geographical environment. When discussing gender equality within their society, there are several aspects that need to be understood, both in terms of tradition and changes that have occurred due to external influences. This study uses a qualitative method of in-depth interview techniques with parties related to the research theme. The results show that, Gender equality in the Moi people, as in many other indigenous communities, exists in a complex context between tradition and social change. Although the roles of women and men are usually different and limited by cultural norms, there is room for complementarity and appreciation of the contributions of both. On the other hand, with the influence of education and modernization, women in the Moi people have also begun to access new opportunities, which allow them to have more voice and role in society.
