Abstract

Utilizing 50 (fifty) of taxi drivers, who has been observing around 100 (one hundred) working days, this study exploring whether the prediction of Neoclassical theory or the Reference Dependence Point (RDP) about income targetting are followed by the taxi drivers in Surabaya city. Neoclassical theory assume that workers will respond positively with the transitory wage change, while the Reference Dependence Point, especially income targetting predict there is negative relationship between labor supply and positive wage income transitory. RDP theory predict that workers will decide reducing their working hours or stopping to work when their wage income has exceed their targetted income. Most of the previous studies evaluate the RDP hiphotesis on taxi drivers. In this study we find that among 50 (fifty) taxi drivers being observed in Surabaya following the prediction of RDP theory. The point elasticity of labor supply in respond to positive wage changing has been found on the range of -0.004 % to -0.0012%.

Abstract

Middle class is an interesting topic in social studies to do a research. Based on Mckenzie, there are currently 45 million people in Indonesia can be categorized as middle class, and in 2030 will reach 135 million people. The middle class is the biggest support of drive economic growth from the demand side. This study aims to perform a simple modeling of middle-class’s cuncumption behavior, which study middle-class subculture in the city of Surabaya. This study uses an econometric tool called the logistic regression with two purchases decision, impulse buying and planned buying, as dependent variables in the model. Results of this study also show that the income effect variables, motivational variables and variable materialistic values ??consume has a significant and positive effect on impulse buying purchasing decisions. While product involvement variable have positive influence on planned purchases buying behavior.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to determine the performance of large and medium industries, including the level of technical efficiency, the elasticity of output to input, and find sources of growth in Total Factor Productivity (TFP) of large and medium industries in the province of Bali in 2001-2010. Analytical techniques used in this study is the Stochastic Frontier Production Function using translog function approach with variable time. The results showed that the variables of labor and raw materials significantly influence the output. The level of technical efficiency from year to year has decreased, and not all large and medium industrial classification in the province of Bali has been streamlined in full. Elasticity of output to input level is the largest output elasticity of inputs. And sources of TFP growth in the province of Bali is dominated by scale components and technological changes so that the improvement in the business climate as well as production facilities and infrastructure is expected to increase TFP growth is still considered low.

Abstract

The objective of the research are (1) to analyze the gross margin in dryland farming systems, (2) to analyze the optimal allocation of agricultural resources in the horticulture farming  and  cattle system in dry land, (3) to determine the effect of changes in the prices of some agricultural commodities to resource allocation in a mixed farming system of  horticulture and cattle on dryland in Kerta Village, Payangan District, Gianyar Regency. Primary data were obtained through a survey of 34 dryland farmers. Constraints optimization analysis in dryland farming systems with linear programming approach using software BLPX 88. Results of the research showed that the gross margin received an average farmer in the Kerta Village before optimization of Rp 47.783.346,00. This gross margin is derived from citrus farming area of ??0.15 ha; elephant grass area of ??0.11 ha; chili first planting season (musin tanam, MT1) covering an area of ??0.09 ha; chili third planting season (MT3) area of ??0.06 ha; tomatoes first planting season (MT1) area 0.07 ha; tomatoes second planting season (MT2) area of ??0.05 ha; tomatoes third planting season (MT3) area of ??0.11 ha; chicory second planting season (MT2) area of ??0.03 ha; beans first planting season (MT1) area of ??0.02 ha; beans second planting season (MT2) area of ??0.14 ha; corn first planting season (MT1) area of ??0.09 ha ; corn second planting season (MT2) area of ??0.05 ha; corn third planting season (MT3) area of ??0.03 ha; sweet potatoes second planting  season (MT2) area 0.04 ha; sweet potatoes third planting season (MT3) area 0.07 ha; peanuts first planting season (MT1) area 0.11 ha; peanut third planting season (MT3) area 0, 10 ha, and maintains five head of cattle. Optimal dryland farming systems in the Kerta Village, generating maximum gross margin  of Rp 49.404.260,00 increased by 3.39% compared to gross revenue of farmers before optimal are Rp 47,783,346.00. Gross margin was obtained from a combination of citrus farming activities area 0.15 ha; elephant grass area of ??0.11 ha; chili first planting season (MT1) area of ??0.09 ha; chili third planting season (MT3) area of ??0.06 ha; tomatoes first planting season (MT1) area 0, 07 ha; tomatoes second planting season (MT2) area of ??0.05 ha; tomatoes third planting season (MT3) area of ??0.11 ha; chicory second planting season (MT2) area of ??0.03 ha; beans first planting season (MT1) area of ??0.02 ha; beans second planting season (MT2) area of ??0.14 ha; corn first planting season (MT1) area 0.09 ha; corn second planting season (MT2) area of ??0.05 ha; corn third planting season (MT3) area of ??0.03 ha; sweet potatoes second planting season (MT2) area 0.04 ha; sweet potatoes third planting season (MT3) area 0.07 hectares, peanuts first planting season (MT1) area ??0.0975 ha; peanut third planting season (MT3) area 0, 0975 ha, and maintains five head of cattle. Decline in the price of red peppers and tomatoes cause changes in the allocation of land use for the red chili and peanuts. whereas if there is an increase in the price of red peppers and tomatoes do not cause changes in resource allocation. Increased peanut prices cause changes in the allocation of land use for land peanuts, red peppers and sweet potatoes while if prices decline peanuts cause changes in land allocation peanuts. When the cow is able to maintain up to eight tails, there will be an increase in farmers' income by Rp 11.110.954, 00 (23,25%). Farmers need to apply the optimal combination of farming activity, so that a maximum income of farmers.

Abstract

Regulation of Bank Indonesia No. 8/4/PBI/2006 as amended by regulation No. 8/14/2006 about implementation of corporate governance become be a proof why corporate governance important in the banking sector. The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of corporate governance on risk management, bank capital, and bank performance in Indonesia.  Implementation on corporate governance is measured by a composit score of corporate governance which is the result of bank self assessment. Risk management is measured by Non Performing Loans (NPL). Bank capital is measured by Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) and bank performance is measured by Return On Equity (ROE). The result showed that corporate governance affect risk management, corporate governance and risk management does not affect bank capital, and corporate governance do not affect bank performance, but risk management affect bank performance. Thus the risk management can be an intervening variable between corporate governance and bank performance.

Abstract

Poverty dynamics is associated with the analysis of poverty over time, which examineswho stays, moves into, and moves out of poverty in the given period. Those who stays in poverty from time to time (known as cronic poverty) should be given different policies from those who temporary move out from poverty (transient poverty). Utilizing the 2008, 2009, 2010 Socio Economic Survey (Susenas) panel data, this research examines the poverty dynamics within the regional base which is Bali Province. During the period of 2008 – 2010, about 1,86 percent of total households in Bali suffers cronic poverty. Moreover, in the same period about 8,69 percent of total households in Bali are vulnerable to poverty (transiently poor). Those who cronically poor needs programs that can enhance their human capital such as education and training. Furthermore, those who vulnerable to poverty or transiently poor require programs that can reduce household consumption variability such as cash transfer and insurance.
