Abstract

This study is aimed to model Human Development Index (HDI) of Bali Province by applying panel data regression (PDR). HDI’s data of nine cities in Province of Bali for period 2009–2014 were used to demonstrate the ability of PDR to model. This research is directed to (1) determine which panel data regression model – Common Effect Model (CEM) vs Fixed Effect Model (FEM) – is more accurate to model the HDI’s data; and (2) to determine variable(s) that significantly affect the HDI’s. By utilizing 17 variables that are obtained from Statistics Office (BPS) of Bali, best model is developed. We concluded that FEM is more accurate than CEM in modelling HDI’s of Bali Province with coefficient of determination as much as 94.7 percent. In addition, two out of 17 variables i.e. the average length of time schooling and life expectancy proved significantly affect the HDI’s for all of cities in the Province of Bali. Keywords: HDI, life expectancy, panel data, time schooling. JEL Classification: O150, C510, C520.

Based on Mckenzie, there are currently 45 million people in Indonesia can be categorized as middle class, and in 2030 will reach 135 million people. The middle class is the biggest support of drive economic growth from the demand side. This study aims to perform a simple modeling of middle-class’s cuncumption behavior, which study middle-class subculture in the city of Surabaya. This study uses an econometric tool called the logistic regression with two purchases decision, impulse buying and planned buying, as dependent variables in the model. Results of this study also show that the income effect variables, motivational variables and variable materialistic values ??consume has a significant and positive effect on impulse buying purchasing decisions. While product involvement variable have positive influence on planned purchases buying behavior.

The sample are 140 people in Denpasar who purchased cosmetics through online shop at least 1 times in the last of 6 month, determined using purposive sampling method. This research uses PLS (Partial Least Square) analysis. The study showed that online shopping experience has a positive and significant impact on customer’s satisfaction, repurchase intention and positive word of mouth. Customer’s satisfaction has a positive and significant effect on repurchase intention and positive word of mouth. Customer’s satisfaction was also shown has mediation effect on repurchase intention and positive word of mouth.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the human development index of the five expansion regions in West Java such as Cimahi, Depok, Banjar, Bekasi and Tasikmalaya. The evaluation of the five cities is using data panel regression to the dependent variable of human development index. The study is tested with using data on 2003 to 2012. The findings of this study are GDP per capita and labor has a significant influence on Human Development Index. The policy of expansion region in 5 cities have already accomodated by indicators of Human Development Index which has increased due to the increasing in GDP per capita and the level of employment. Abstract

This study analyse the causality relationship between foreign direct investment (FDI) and economic growth in Indonesia over the period 1970-2015. The method used in this research is Granger causality approach. Results from the estimation show that there is no causal relationship between FDI and economic growth in short and long run. However, the results in this paper indicate that there is a unidirectional causal relationship running from economic growth to FDI in short and long run. It means that economic growth influences FDI inflows in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study attempts to analyze commodity market instruments such as gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude oil’s potential as hedge and safe haven toward some stock markets in South East Asia such as in Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, and Thailand. To analyze the data, GARCH (1,1) was applied. The research findings showed that gold, silver, platinum, palladium, and WTI could not play their role as hedging instrument for five South East Asian capital markets. WTI could act as a robust safe haven for most South East Asian capital markets. Gold could do the role as a robust safe haven in Singapore and Malaysia, whereas, platinum and silver consistently could be safe haven only for Singapore Stock Exchange. Palladium could only be safe haven for Philippines Stock Exchange.

Education is one of the variables that have relation with income level and social status level in society. This is relevant with previous studies that have been conducted by researchers and academics.

Abstract

Inflation is an important indicator that can provide information on the development of prices of goods and services consumed by public. Forecasting inflation is important in order to assist the government in taking monetary policy to maintain economic stability in the future. In general, forecasting inflation can be done with time series approach, causal approach, and a combination of time series and causal approaches. Models with a combined approach that is widely used for forecasting inflation is ARIMAX model that includes Transfer Function and Intervention Model or also known as dynamic regression models. In addition, Generalized Autoregresive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (GARCH) for variance has also been applied to models in forecasting inflation. This study explains the procedure of building the ARIMAX models and GARCH detection using a case study of inflation data in denpasar city. Predictor variables  consist of metric data variable (ie number of foreign tourists) and non-metric data variables (the increase of fuel oil (BBM) ), basic electricity tariff (TDL) and  Bali bombings). The best model for in-sample data is intervention model with the smallest value of AIC and SBC, whereas the best model for data out-sample is  transfer function model with the smallest RMSE value. GARCH detection results with Langrange Multiplier test shows no evidence of heteroscedasticity in  ARIMAX model.
