Abstract

This article will try to analyze the strategy played by the Taliban insurgency group in the success of winning its insurgency in the Afghan conflict against the government and its international coalition, namely the US. The results of the study show that the success of the Taliban in winning the Afghan conflict is inseparable from the Taliban's ability to integrate various strategic instruments both military and non-military forces to support its insurgency. In this case, besides relying on military power, the Taliban cleverly launched a softer strategy (soft power) both by means of diplomacy, the use of social media to conduct propaganda and other softer ways. All of this was attempted for no other reason than to seek support for the legitimacy of the Taliban's insurgency movement. Keywords: Strategy, Soft power, Insurgency, Taliban, Afghanistan.

Abstract

The AUKUS alliance, a three-way strategic defence partnership between Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States, was announced with the aim of building a nuclear submarine fleet. The research method used in this analysis is a qualitative approach, focusing on foreign policy studies and literature reviews related to geopolitical relations in the Asia-Pacific region. The author uses the concept of foreign policy to understand how the threat from China affects Australia's security strategy. The strategy aims to better position Australia to contribute to regional security and stability, as China’s increasing self-sufficiency and the risk of military conflict between major powers in the Indo-Pacific region increase. The document provides a grim assessment of security in the Pacific and sets out a massive increase in defence expenditures to restructure the Australian military to cope with the changing security environment in Asia-Pacific. The review also focuses on the operationalization of a deterrence by a denial strategy, which includes the acquisition of a more powerful and lethal long-range attack capability and the upgrading of Australian northern bases to force rotations. This strategy emphasizes the importance of suppressing China's "competitive tactics" through a combination of military capabilities, diplomacy and alliances with traditional partners.

Abstract

Cases of domestic violence in Indonesia are still relatively high, even though it is known that the law governing it has existed since 2004. Then how are the main objectives that the law wants to achieve in dealing with cases of domestic violence and its effectiveness. In this literature review, researchers used a normative descriptive method supported by data in the form of books, journals, and other relevant research. The result is that the main purpose of the PKDRT law is to maintain the integrity of a harmonious and prosperous household, this is not in line with the sanctions given so that it has a negative impact on the perpetrators and victims who both have family relationships. Then another effort that is more in line with this law is restorative justice with certain considerations. Restorative justice is an implementation of past Islamic law that has been exemplified by the Prophet and his companions. Meanwhile, according to its effectiveness, Indonesian society has not effectively implemented this PKDRT Law due to a weak legal culture and legal awareness.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of state-local government relations on the performance of local governments in Ogun States, Nigeria, with an emphasis on how such relationship affects local government performances. Local governments are critical in driving economic development and delivering essential services to improve citizens' well-being. However, their performance is often constrained by imbalances in the relationship with state governments. This research employed a mixed-methods approach, including descriptive analysis, multicollinearity tests, factor analysis, and regression analysis, to assess the dynamics of state-local interactions. Primary data were gathered through interviews with local government officials, policymakers, and development experts, alongside questionnaires distributed within selected local governments. Secondary sources comprised government reports, academic literature, and policy documents. Three local governments were purposively selected from the state, with 400 questionnaires administered across Abeokuta North, Yewa North, and Sagamu local government. Findings indicate that local governments lack financial autonomy, with state approval required for service delivery and infrastructure projects, thereby hampering sustainable progress. Although a generally cooperative relationship exists, the financial dependence of local governments on state allocations due to the joint account system limits their accountability and capacity for independent infrastructure development. The study recommends enhancing local government autonomy through policy reforms, technical support, and staff training, alongside formalized communication protocols to strengthen intergovernmental collaboration. Abstract

The phenomenon of intra-regional migration has occurred since 1980 in Southeast Asia and continues to increase. One of them is in the sub-region known as the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). GMS countries including China (Yunan Province and Guangxi Autonomous Region), Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, have different economic conditions. Thailand is a country with the strongest economy, thus attracting migrants to work in Thailand, especially migrants from Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Myanmar. This mobility has opened up opportunities for human trafficking, so the six countries agreed to a memorandum of understanding which continued with the formation of the Coordinated Mekong Ministerial Initiative Against Trafficking (COMMIT) and issued the Subregional Plan of Action (SPA). This study aims to determine the implementation of SPA IV carried out by Thailand in the period 2018 - 2022 along with its obstacles. As a result, in implementing the Subregional Plan of Action IV COMMIT, Thailand has focused more on measures to prevent human trafficking, protect victims, and prosecute perpetrators. However, implementation has also encountered obstacles due to the COVID-19 pandemic
