Abstract

As an entity famous for its mystical synthesis, Yogyakarta Palace can harmonize between mysticism and religious and social expressions. This is represented in, one of them, Madukismo Sugar Factory in Yogyakarta, a sugarcane processing factory owned by Yogyakarta Palace. In its processing, there is one of local wisdom that reflects the existence of this mystical synthesis, namely Cembengan tradition. From it, arises a power struggle between orthodoxy and heterodoxy, bearing in mind that this factory is a public company which naturally comes from various religious groups. The main problems: how Cembengan tradition in Madukismo Sugar Factory in Yogyakarta is and how the struggle for religious power in Cembengan tradition is. This paper aims to find out Cembengan tradition and the struggle for the religious power that exists in the tradition. This study uses discursive action model as its approach. The research data were analyzed qualitatively using interview and literature study techniques. It was found that in Cembengan tradition, there is a tradition with a variety of activities, which is essentially asking for safety and blessing. The uniqueness is in the series of activities, there are istigotsah and pilgrimage to the tomb of the ancestor together, which is in series with the procession of Labuhan Laut, sugarcane bride and groom parade, and puppet show. This certainly gives rise to a power struggle between orthodoxy and heterodoxy, bearing in mind that Yogyakarta itself is the orthodox Islamic base as well as strong heterodoxy bases. However, Cembengan tradition continues because there are various things that are proven to occur and determine the quality of works and production results from Madukismo Sugar Factory itself. We can conclude that no matter how strong the struggle is, the mystical synthesis is still ongoing.

Abstract

The practices of worship involve the relationship between humans and themselves, humans and humans, humans and God, and even the relationship between humans and the environment in which they live. With the power of human imagination, when the relationships are practiced properly according to God's direction, then there comes surrender, obedience, and devotion in worshiping God. Spiritual hyperreality or hyperspirituality has created practices of worship that are based on simulating pure rituals as taught by prophets, even though they are ritual formations far from the prophetsnes. Because of the signs of worship practice are based on simulations or self-imaginations, then what appears is falsehood and lies on the signs of the practice of worship. This paper intends to unmask hyperreality in spiritual activities that have been considered sacred. This paper uses semiotics as its approach, especially those introduced by Bartes, Piliang and Baudrillard. this study found that when the practice of worship has been separated from it’s pure rituals as taught by prophets and formed a simulation, the practice of worship is only a means of imaging, style personality, and reproduction machinery.

Abstract

There are two different opinions about the relationship between religiosity and post-disaster trauma. First, it is religiosity that helps the mental recovery of disaster survivors. Second, religiosity does not have a significant role in the lives of disaster survivors. This research supports to verify both opinions, through field observations and interviews with earthquake survivors in Lombok-Indonesia. Herbert Blumer, researchers used symbolic interactions. The results found a positive relationship between religiosity and mental recovery. Although this disaster has caused massive casualties, misery and loss, it has released significant difficulties in religious awareness. The nuances of religiosity found at the Lombok disaster site are also not only about ritual worship, but also more inclusive social relations, and more authentic relationships with supernatural realms and natural environment.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the thoughts of Calvin E. Shenk, a Christian missiologist, who criticized the concept of tripolar typology in the reality of religious pluralism, which was seen as reducing Christian faith. Calvin E. Shenk offers the idea of authentic dialogue, dialogue is as a form of witness of faith. However, Shenk's thoughts cannot simply be applied in the reality of encounters between Muslims and Christians in Maluku, which only emerged from the religious conflict of in 1999-2004. Both the analysis of Shenk's thoughts and the analysis of the context of religious presentation in Maluku, uses the approach of literature study in qualitative research methods. Finally, this study offers a dialogue paradigm in the context of interfaith relations in Maluku that embraces the uniqueness of each religion, including the praxis of the witness of faith, but does not neglect an important dimension that all religions need each other, and that is the symbiosis of religion.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to describe the religious attitudes of the Muslim amid COVID-19 outbreak. Many muslims are very depressed, because the government and related authorities are trying to ban worship activities in mosques during COVID-19 pandemic. Many Muslims find it hard to leave their custom of worship together at the mosque. Many of them are still praying together in the mosque. This phenomenon is the object of the study. The results show that the pattern of worship activities carried out by Muslims amid COVID-19 pandemic has changed. At the surface level, it appears that mosques tend to be empty and closed. At a deeper level, we see a unique pattern that involves four variables:  the obligation of worship, the worship participation, the encouragement of social distancing, and the rationality of Muslims.
