Abstract

After the new order (ORBA) has collapsed, HTI is the most solid and has the widest network among the other new Islamic movements that always struggle to implement the Sharia. Furthermore, HTI is the most radical movement because HTI does not only have aims to implement the Sharia but to build Islamic caliphate as well. How the Sharia concept in caliphate frame and the HTI effort in realizing the aims is the focus of this qualitative research. To answer this question, the researcher interviews some HTI activists and attends in some HTI activities in Yogyakarta. According to HTI, the Sharia encompasses every life aspect; such as worship, ethic, food, drink, dress or mu’amalah (government, economy, education, justness. Etc). The Sharia can only be applied perfectly (kaffah) in the Islamic caliphate system. The efforts of HTI in implementing the Sharia in the system of caliphate country are explained by using the Doug Macadam’s theories of social movement; those are 1) political opportunities 2) mobilizing structures; either internal, by tathqif, or external, by tathqif jama’i and talab al-nusrah, 3) framing process by sira’ al-fikri, kifah siyasi and tabanni masalih al-‘ummah. Refering to the social movement, HTI is a revolutionary movement which aims to replace the old social order at all by a new system. This movement tries to save and free the ummah from the broken and kufr system along with social critics to some social troubles which create crisis in life. Therefore, HTI will grow widely in social order which is full of poverty, injustice, corruption and all arbitrariness. Otherwise, HTI will be difficult to be big movement in the prosperous and just countries.

The data were taken from the study of literature, interview and field observation. Research findings showed that taking over LDK IAIN Salatiga by moderate group was started with shaping LDK Nusantara as a means to form cadres. Having been successful in taking over LDK IAIN Salatiga, it then went out from the networking of LDK Ikhwanul Muslimin and planned to establish moderate LDK networking among universities which was called FKKDKN (Communication Forum for-in Campus Islamic proselytizing a whole Archipelago/Nusantara). Abstract

The purpose of this study is to discuss the actions and reactions of the issuance of Permenristekdikti No. 55 of 2018 at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) Yogyakarta and Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, which exhibits an ideological struggle between Pancasila and Islamism. It was found that the fact of the rise of radicalism in the campus realm underlies the issuance of this regulation. Therefore, it becomes a means of fostering the ideology of the nation on campus. In practice, UIN has not yet implemented the regulation, but it has realized the spirit of it in the form of campus rules. There are responses and impacts that occur. However, it is not within the area of student organs, but the institution, and its impact is felt by all students. Meanwhile, at UGM, there is no direct policy yet, but campus organs have been actively discussing and mapping the patterns of movement to be carried out when the regulation is later enacted.

Abstract

This article discusses the endogamous marriage of Jamaah Tarbiyah in Salatiga, Central Java based on a sociological perspective. The framework of Bourdiue theory, particularly capital and habitus concept, was applied to analyze the case. Jamaah Tarbiyah was able to force the cadre to get married in endogamous system based on ‘its own capital’. But, when the system was on process sometime it run in coercive way and there was a symbolic violence. As result, the coercive way raised a habitual action (habitus). The habitus resulted a doxa as well as a heterodoxa (counter doxa) when doxa opposed topersonal interest. Dialectic of the habitus, doxa, and hetrodoxa influenced on the member’s social life when endogamous marriage was practiced. DOI: 10.15408/ajis.v17i1.6226

Abstract

Islamic purification movement which run by MTA (Majelis Tafsir Al-Qur'an; Quranic interpretation council) is an interesting one to be discussed. MTA, an institution with the charismatic leader, is preaching Islam puritanically like other Islamic organizations which have active branches with organized structure in every level. Therefore, this article will discuss MTA movement in sociological perspective, particularly using social movement theory. The results can be seen in three social movement types. The first type is to use political opportunities through a national gathering forum (Silatnas) and Sunday Morning Preaching (Pengajian Ahad Pagi). The second type is to mobilize all capitals; moral resources include Quran-Sunnah as well as charisma of the leader; cultural resources includes all MTA's religious business; human resources with structured cadre system, well-organized social-organization resources; and excessive economic resources. The last type is to frame its religious movement to resolve every Islamic-social pathology through the best method on MTA perspective

Abstract

As an entity famous for its mystical synthesis, Yogyakarta Palace can harmonize between mysticism and religious and social expressions. This is represented in, one of them, Madukismo Sugar Factory in Yogyakarta, a sugarcane processing factory owned by Yogyakarta Palace. In its processing, there is one of local wisdom that reflects the existence of this mystical synthesis, namely Cembengan tradition. From it, arises a power struggle between orthodoxy and heterodoxy, bearing in mind that this factory is a public company which naturally comes from various religious groups. The main problems: how Cembengan tradition in Madukismo Sugar Factory in Yogyakarta is and how the struggle for religious power in Cembengan tradition is. This paper aims to find out Cembengan tradition and the struggle for the religious power that exists in the tradition. This study uses discursive action model as its approach. The research data were analyzed qualitatively using interview and literature study techniques. It was found that in Cembengan tradition, there is a tradition with a variety of activities, which is essentially asking for safety and blessing. The uniqueness is in the series of activities, there are istigotsah and pilgrimage to the tomb of the ancestor together, which is in series with the procession of Labuhan Laut, sugarcane bride and groom parade, and puppet show. This certainly gives rise to a power struggle between orthodoxy and heterodoxy, bearing in mind that Yogyakarta itself is the orthodox Islamic base as well as strong heterodoxy bases. However, Cembengan tradition continues because there are various things that are proven to occur and determine the quality of works and production results from Madukismo Sugar Factory itself. We can conclude that no matter how strong the struggle is, the mystical synthesis is still ongoing.
