Abstract

RIFAI, M.A. 2008. Another note on Podoconis megasperma Boedijn (Hyphomycetes). Reinwardtia 12 (4): 277– 279. –– Exosporium megaspermum (Boedijn) Rifai and Exosporium ampullaceum (Petch) M.B.Ellis are transferred to Neopodoconis Rifai, a newly created genus extracted from Exosporium Link based on the nature of the true septation of their rostrate conidia. Two new combinations, Neopodoconis ampullacea (Petch) Rifai and Neopodoconis megasperma (Boedijn) Rifai, accordingly are proposed.

Newly described in Beilschmiedia are: B. filicifolia Kosterm., B. glaueiphylla Kosterm., B. pilosa Kosterm.5. Endiandra eusideroxylocarpa Kosterm., a new species from Borneo.6. Dehaasia hirsute/, Kosterm., a new species from Borneo.7. A new Millettia (M. vasta Kosterm.) is described from Borneo with notes on its distributional area.8. Abstract

Single ascospore isolates of Sarawakus succisus Rifai produce a Trichoderma like anamorph. The hypocreaceous nature of the genus Savawakus Lloyd is therefore indicated. A detailed illustrated description of this conidial state is presented.

Abstract

The scope of the monotypic genus Sara.wa.kus is enlarged to enable it to accommodate the newly described species Sarawakus sucoisus Rifai. A complete taxonomic revision of the genus is presented, in which it is shown that Sarawakus belongs to the Hypocreaceae and not to the Xylariaceae as some authors have suggested. Hypocrea gelaiinosa (Tode ex Fr.) Fr. subsp. oligotheea Penz. & Sacc. is accorded specific status as Hypocrea oligotheea (Penz. & Sacc.) Rifai and Phaeocreopsis pezizaeformis Boedijn is transferred to Hypocreopsis.

Abstract

 DE WILDE, W.J.J.O; DUYFEES, B.E.E. & VAN DER HAM, R.W.J.M. 2006. Anangia, a new monotypic genus of Cucurbitaceae from East Moluccas. Reinwardtia 12(3): 219 – 222.– A new monotypic genus of Cucurbitaceae from Morotai (Indonesia) is described. The genus is defined by unique characters, including large sepals, much longer than the petals, and it has distinctly cucurbitoid pollen features. The only species is Anangia macrosepala W.J. de Wilde & Duyfjes.

Abstract

WIDJAJA, E.A. 2009. Three new species of Dinochloa (Poaceae, Bambusoideae) with erect culm sheath blades from Sulawesi, Indonesia. Reinwardtia 12(5): 435–440. –– Dinochloa aopaensis, D. morowaliensis, and D. petasiensis, are described as new. They are characterized by their erect culm sheath blades, but are distincted by a combination of characters of the auricle and ligule of the culm sheath, auricle and ligule of the leaf sheath and the pubescence of the leaf sheath. A key to the species of Malesian Dinochloa with erect culm sheath blades is presented.

Abstract

Study in leaves anatomy of twenty nine samples of the species classified under Pandanus, Freycinetia and Sararanga of Pandanaceae had been undertaken to unravel generic relationship among of these taxa with a view to provide a set of diagnostic characters for taxonomic identification. The fourth genus of Pandanaceae, Benstonea is not included in this analysis since there are no representative samples. Four anatomical diagnostic characters had been identified at the generic level such as present and absent of papillae, stomatal arrangement types, present and absent of bundle sheath extension and hypodermal thickness and its shape. Pandanus has papillae, amphistomatous stomata, bundle sheath extension present and hypodermis thin and rectangular; Freycinetia lacked of papillae, stomata hypostomatous or amphistomatous, bundle sheath extension absent and hypodermis thick and hexagonal or rounded; meanwhile Sararanga has no papillae, stomata amphistomatous, bundle sheath extension absent and hypodermis thin and flatten. An identification key to those genera based on anatomical diagnostic characters is provided.

Abstract

Tree up to 51 m tall, with 30 m straight, cylindrical bole, at 1.20 m about 70 cm in diameter. Crown rather sparse, brownish green. Bark grey brown, fissured, grooves about 7 mm deep; 10-20 mm thick with pale brown, round lenticels, under-bark whitish or straw. Wood straw to very pale pink coloured; sapwood not sharply defined. Branchlets rough, grey-brown, end of branchlets with fine, stellate, light brown hairs. Leaves (adult) glabrous, coriaceous, oblong, 8-11,5 cm long, 3-4 cm wide, top (when dried often plicate) shortly acuminate, acumen acutish, 2-4 mm long, base obtuse or rotundate; upper surface often smooth (or lateral nerves slightly prominulous), midrib impressed; lower surface yellowish brown with very prominent midrib, the c. 15 pairs of lateral nerves prominulous; veins reticulate, hardly prominulous; petioles 2-4 cm long, swollen at the base of the blade, brown (fresh). In fresh condition leaves yellowish green below, with yellow veins above. Infructescense 10 cm long, densely, microscopically, light brown pilose. Fruit wings yellowish green; fruiting calyx tube cup-shaped, 10-12mm in diameter at apex, 5-6 mm high, densely, minutely pilose; wings slightly puberulous on the nerves; the 2 large ones elongate obovate-lanceolate, 9-11 X 1,5 - 2 cm, apex acutish, gradually narrowed towards base; at basal insertion 5-8 mm wide; the 3 smaller wings subulate, linear-lanceolate, 2-4 cm long, 3-4 mm wide, 3-nerved. Abstract

This is the first paper of a series, in which preparatory to a more comprehensive treatment for "Flora Malesiana," some noteworthy Malaysian Cyperaceae will be dealt with. It is based on the material of this family in the Herbaria at Bogor (BO), Leiden (L), and Singapore (S).My sincere thanks are extended to the Directors of these institutions for giving me the opportunity to study their rich collections.In 1935—36 Kiikenthals excellent monograph on the genus Cyperus in Englers "Pflanzenreich" appeared.Unfortunately that author revised only a few specimens of the herbaria already mentioned,so that the basis for the distribution of the genus in Malaysia, as given in his invaluable work, compares unfavourably with that of the species of other regions.Kiikenthals delimitation of the genus is readily accepted; in general his arrangement of the species is also followed, although I cannot agree with Kiikenthals assertion that his system should be in close accordance with the genetic development of the genus.On the whole only the synonymy important for the Malaysian region is given below. For a more complete account the reader is referred to Kiikenthals monograph, in which of course the literature of merely regional interest could not always be fully considered.The accompanying plates are part of a series, drawn under mysupervision by two of the draughtsmen of Herbarium Bogoriense, Sukirno and Md. Anwar.
