Abstract

From a recent research on Indonesian bamboo germplasm it has become evident that there are at least 43 undescribed species (6 species of Bambusa, 3 species of Dendrocalamus, 4 species of Dinochloa, 13 species of Gigantochloa, 2 species of Nastus, 2 species of Racemobambos, 11 species of Schizostachyum and 2 species in the new monotyic genera Parabambusa and Pinga). Two new genera (Fimbribambusa and Neololeba) are here separated from Bambusa Schreb.

Abstract

In this revision 11 species have been admitted for the Malaysian Archipelago, including 0. stipidacea which is described as new, from Brunei. A key, synonymy, and distribution are given. Ten species and one variety are reduced; three of these reductions (under O. macrodisea) are tentative, as of two of them no types were available. Another species, 0. villamilii Merr., is reduced to Pericopsis moonii. O. scandens, of which I have also seen no material, I have not been able to place; its pod is unknown.

Abstract

In this revision of the Malaysian species of the genus Rhododendron L. 261 species and 55 varieties and forms have been distinguished, of which 96 species (some obviously hybrids) and 29 varieties are described as new; 10 species have been reduced to the rank of a variety or form, and 67 species, varieties, or forms have for the first time been regarded as synonym. In the keys to several subsections or series the extra-Malaysian species are included.

Abstract

 1. A new monotypic genus, Kalappia Kostermans, is established for a tree of commercial importance from Celebes, K. celebica Kostermans. The genus is assigned to Caesalpiniaceae (Tribus Cassiae).2. The Papilionaceous genus Desmofischera Holth.(only species: D.monosperma Holth.) is reduced to a synonym of Monarthrocarpus Merr.[only species: M. securiformis (Benth.) Merr.]. Additional collections, from Morotai, are cited.

Abstract

A historical sketch of the genus Catantlicra is presented and its relationship with the two allied genera Dissockaeta Bl. and Mediniltu Gaud, is discussed. The 16 species recognised in the genus Cntantkcra are described and a key to the species so far known is presented. The genus Cata-nthera is entirely restricted to Malesia, occuring in New Guinea, Borneo and Sumatra. They are ivy-like climbers which form a canopy in the tropical rain forests. Five new species, Catanthera royenii Nayar, C. pifosa Nayar, C. novoguinevnsis Nayar, C. Hleuineri Nayar and C. peltata Nayar are described and illustrated.

Abstract

KIEW, R. 2015. Chionanthus (Oleaceae) in Sulawesi, Indonesia, including three new species. Reinwardtia 14(2): 287 - 295. - The genus Chionanthus (Oleaceae) in Sulawesi is revised. Nine species are described of which C. kostermansii Kiew, C. sordidus Kiew and C. sulawesicus Kiew are new species. Four species are endemic, C. celebicus Koord., C. sordidus, C. stenurus (Merr.) Kiew and C. sulawesicus. The geographic range of C. cordulatus Koord. extends to Borneo and Mollucas, while C. kostermansii also occurs in Sumbawa and Flores, and the range of C. rupicolus (Lingelsh.) Kiew extends to Sumbawa, Mollucas, New Guinea and the Bismarck Archipelago. Chionanthus polygamus (Roxb.) Kiew and C. ramiflorus Roxb. are both widespread species, the former from Sumatra to New Guinea and the latter from continental Asia to the Solomon Islands. A key to identify the species is provided. Chionanthus gigantifolius Koord. remains incompletely known.

Abstract

DWIYANTI, F.G., KAMIYA, K. & HARADA, K. 2014. Phylogeographic structure of the commercially important tropical tree species Dryobalanops aromatica Gaertn. F. (Dipterocarpaceae) revealed by microsatellite markers. Reinwardtia 14(1): 43 – 51. ? Dryobalanops aromatica Gaertn. F. (Kapur) is an economically important timber species in Southeast Asia that can serve as a good model for studying the impact of the Pleistocene glaciations on the genetic diversity and distribution of species in tropical regions. Seven polymorphic microsatellite markers were analyzed in five natural populations of D. aromatica (N = 120 individuals): Gunung Panti in Malay Peninsula, Lingga Island in Lingga Archipelago, Lambir Hills National Park, Limbang and Similajau National Park in Borneo. The level of gene diversity (HE) for the five populations was relatively high with a range from 0.571 (Similajau) to 0.729 (Gunung Panti). The high genetic diversity in the present study could be attributed to the larger refugia population sizes of D. aromatica than that of other species. The population genetic structure revealed two distinct groups: the Malay Peninsula-Lingga Archipelago and Borneo. This pattern suggests that populations in each geographical area might be the consequence of post-glacial expansion from one or two refugia, but that gene flow between different glacial refugia was fairly restricted.
