Abstract

Nine species and one new variety of the genus Luisia are recognized in Indonesia. The newly proposed variety is L. zollingeri Rchb. f. var. iati-petala ( J. J. S. ) Sulistiarini. Complete descriptions, key to all species based on morphological characters as well as lists of specimens examined are presented.

Abstract

 MOGEA, JOHANIS P. 2004. Four new species of Arenga (Palmae) from Indonesia. Reinwardtia 12 (2): 181 – 189. -- Arenga distincta from Borneo and A. longipes, A. plicata, and A. talamauensis from Sumatra are described and illustrated for the first time. The descriptions are followed by information regarding the habitat and geographical distribution, and notes on morphological similarities with other, presumably related species.Leaves of A. longipes and A.talamauensis are paripinnate while the other two species are imparipinnate.

Abstract

Cercospora brunfelsiicola on Brunfelsia uniflora is proposed as a new species based on a combination of molecular phylogenetic and morphological data analyses. The molecular phylogenetic analysis based on combined multilocus analyses of the Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS), part of the elongation factor 1–a gene (EF1–a), and part of the calmodulin (CAL) gene regions showed that C. brunfelsiicola is phylogenetically distinguishable from other Cercospora species, including members of the C. apii s. lat. complex. Morphologically, C. brunfelsiicola differs from other closely related Cercospora species, in particular C. acaciae-mangii, by forming lesions with indistinct margin, larger stromata [(32) 48.5 ± 10.6 (68) ?m diam.], and filiform to narrowly obclavate conidia [(45) 59 ± 9.1 (72) × (2.5) 2.5 ± 0.2 (3) ?m].

Abstract

Some general notes are given on the morphology of the inflorescence and flowers in the genus Dichapetalum and on the nomenclature of the generic name Dichapetalum. An attempt has been made to revise the c. 40 species described in it from the Indo-Australian area. It appeared necessary to reduce a large number of specific names to synonymy. In the present paper 16 species have been recognized among which 4 are new. Besides, a number of infraspecific taxa have been distinguished. Pentastira Ridley, referred to the Icacinaeeae, has been reduced to Dichapetalum. A census is given of Indo-Australian species including one extra-Malaysian one, 16 D. vitiense.

Abstract

Seven species of Burretwdendron are recognized,of which B.siamensis and B.yunnanensis are new to science.The distributional area of the genus covers Siam (one species), Yunnan (two species),Kweichow (one species);Kwangsi (three species)and Tonkin (two species).B. tonkinensis is reduced to the synonymy of B.hsienmu. A key to the species is presented.

Abstract

1. On the basis of a detailed comparison of all characters, the genera Uittienia and Dansera are joined to Dial him as subgenera. This brings the number of subgenera in this genus to four, viz., Dialium, Dansera, Vittievia, and Around.2. Davxeia and Uittienia ate close to the subgenera Dialium and Arouna respectively, but one or two characters of each put them both as intermediates between the latter two.3. Subgenera Dialium and Arouna remain in their previously described geographic distributions, but Uitticnia appears to have a close relationship with Aroiiva. A point of phylogeny is left open here for further consideration when further data will he available.4. The trimery of flowers in Dansera is abnormal for both the genus Dialiuw and the tribe Cassieae, but it might bring proof that the connexion of Dialium hexa nepalmn Harms with the genus was previously unduly questioned by the author.The type and only known specimen of the latter species was destroyed during the war;collections of new specimens would, therefore, be of the highest interest.

Abstract

The anatomy of leaves, twigs, wood and seedling of Kostermansia Soegeng is described. A comparison with some species of Coelostegia and Durio indicates the close affinities between the three taxa, but also shows some differences in leaf anatomy, probably valuable for diagnostic purposes. The stomata in Kostermansia show a very remarkable arrangement in circles around the insertions of the scales.

Abstract

Morphological, anatomical, geographical and ecological data were utilized in a systematic study of the grass- genus Cymbopogon. The genus is largely confined to the Old World tropics and subtropics; C. densiflorus has become naturalized in the New World (Brazil) and C. refractus in the Pacific Islands. A taxonomicaccount is presented in which 55 species are recognized and placed in 5 series which have definite geographical distribution: ser. Cymbopogon (from West Africa to India), ser. Rusae (from Africa to Indo-China), ser. Citrati (Africa, Asia and Australia), ser. Proceri (Australia) and ser. Refracti (Australia). Ser. Proceri and ser. Refracti are described for the first time, as is C. goeringii var. hongkongensis. In this study three new combinations are proposed, one species is excluded from Cymbopogon, while two species and four varieties are considered of uncertain status because type material was not available. One natural hybrid between C. bombycinus and C. ambiguus is recognized. Full descriptions of species and key to the series and species are given. Two new chromosome counts of C. procerus and C. bombycinus were reported so that data are now available for 22 species, which are all on the polyploid series 2n = 20, 40, 60.
