Abstract

The study was carried out on August 2000 to July 2001, in 1-ha permanent plot, near Cikaniki Research Station, in Halimun Mountain National Park, West Java.The results shows that, from 1 ha (100 sub plots, each 10x10 m size) studied there were 388 individual numbers of Asplenium nidus L. with some variation on rosette leaves size. The individual numbers of A. nidus were greater at host plant stem with diameter class distribution between 1.3-9.9 cm (45,6%), and than percentages value were decreased in the larger of host plant stem diameter class. Also the individual numbers of A. nidus were greater at under 5 m height position above ground, that is 252 (65,1%).There were no correlation between host plant height (tree trunk height) and A. nidus height position above ground.However there were little linear correlation between rosette leaves size with stem diameter of host plant(Y=1.5586x+317.37 and R =0.0211), and little linear correlation between rosette leaves size with host plant height(Y=2.8241x+304.63, and R =0.0226), but there were no significant increased for both. It was assumed the effects of microclimate(temperature, humidity, light, and rainfall) to distribution of A. nidus as well as horizontal or vertical distribution.

Abstract

Study on diversity and abundance of Orthoptera (insect) was conducted at a tropical mountainous rainforest of Java, Mounts Kendeng and Botol, Gunung Halimun National Park, West Java, Indonesia, from January to March 2002. Total Orthoptera captured was 414 individuals,consist of 25 species and 9 families. Shannon Diversity Index and evenness were higher at Mount of Kendeng (2.44 and 0.81) rather than Mount Botol (1.80 and 0.66).Similarity Index of Jaccard and Sorenson of both localities were similar (0.40 and 0.32).Relative abundant of each family and species will be compared between the two locations also.

Abstract

Studi taksonomi jamur di Taman Nasional Gunung Halimun (TNGH) belum dilakukan dengan intensif.Sebanyak 35 jenis Agarics dikoleksi dari kawasan TNGH meliputi 23 marga dan 9 suku.Kekayaan keanekaragaman jamur ini diperoleh dari eksplorasi di 3 lokasi yaitu Cikaniki, Gunung Botol dan Gunung Telaga (Ciptarasa).Sejumlah sampel belum teridentifikasi karena karakter yang belum jelas.Oleh karena itu, jumlah jenis-jenis baru dari eksplorasi ini belum dapat diketahui.

Abstract

The fieldworks for inventory and collection on mammals in Gunung Halimun National Park (OHNP) had been carried out for long time; however the works only focused on the areas belong to Bogor District. Therefore, the fieldwork was carried out in the buffer zone of the GHNP in Lebak District.The fieldwork had collected 70 numbers consisted of 16 species of mammals, of which five species were new records for GHNP and of those five species, two species (Glischropus javanus and Myotis sp.)were new collection for the Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense-Research Center for Biology-The Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI).The Baduy people were noticed to hunt fruit-bats from some caves for their food.It was suggested a monitoring activity on the utilization of fruit-bats should be conducted for the conservation of the fruit-bats.Further fieldwork outside the Bogor District in the future should also be considered, particularly on the area along the river.

Abstract

Indigenous people who live in Gunung Halimun National Park (GHNP) rely their on their traditional life natural resources around them.The ethnobotanical research had been conducted in three villages surrounding GHNP.This research including indigenous knowledge in using plants for their daily life such as for food, medicine, fuel, ritual need etc. Most of the plants can be found wildly.Over harvesting of those wild plant might affect the sustanability the national park. Therefore, the environmental education for indigenous people is needed.

Abstract

Studies on ecological aspects of two species of damselflies, Neurobasis chinensis and Vestalis luctuosa (Odonata:Calopterygidae) were conducted at Cikaniki stream, Taman Nasional Gunung Halimun (TNGH).The two species of damselflies were selected from 26 species of dragonflies that have been collected in the study area.Selection was based on their appearance which is big in size, metallic colour are conspicuous and also on the habitat specificity.

Abstract

Study on rattans species density in five sites which were spread out at the submontane forest at altitude from 900 m to 1100 m asl in the northern area of the Gunung Halimun National Park and a non rattan palm exploration around the area were conducted.Each site has a line transect rectangular plots of 200 x 20 m in Cileungsi 1, then 1000 x 20 m in Cileungsi 2, then 650 x 20 m in Cangkuang 1, then 400 x 20 m in Cangkuang 2, and 1000 x 20 m in the Meuncit Kebo Hill. The value of the individual rattans species density per hectar was obtained from the analysis of the number of the individual rattan species occurs in the plots.The result of data analysis above were then inserted into the same rattan density study of the park which was conducted previously.Hence, it was revealed that the park has 21 species of palms consisting of 8 species of Calamus, 4 species of Daemonorops,2 species of Pinanga, 2 species of Caryola, and each one species of Korthalsia, Licuala, Nenga, Plectocomia and Salacca.Four species of palms in the villages out side the park were sagopalm (Metroxylon sagu), coconutpalm (Cocos nucifera), sugarpalm(Arenga pinnata), and chewingpalm (Areca catechu).Three dominant rattans species were Calamus heteroideus, Plectocomia elongata, and C. javensis.Palms which endemic to West Java are Calamus asperrimus, C. melanoloma, Caryota maxima, Nenga pumila, and Salacca zalacca; and the palms which endemic to Java are Daemonorops ruber and Pinanga javana. Among those of 21 species, four species were included as lower risk less concern plant based on the IUCN Red List Categories 30 November 1994 namely D. ruber, C. asperrimus, C.melanoloma, and Licuala pumila; and two species as lower risk near threatened namely Caryota maxima and Pinanga javana.New records natural phenomenas in the park were Calamus heteroideus which has sprouts arising from the tip of the flagelliform staminate inflorescence and from the top of damaged stem; and C. ciliaris which has sprouts arising from its areal stem nodes.And finally, a standard of current local names of the palms in the area were proposed.

Abstract

Fifty strains of Bacillus sp. isolated from Gunung Halimun National Park (GHNP) were characterized. All strains are characterized by amylase, protease, phosphatase, ligninase, and cellulase activity.Thirtyseven isolates gave positive reaction for amylase activity, 46 isolates for protease activity, 3 isolates for phosphatase activity, 3 isolates for ligninase activity, and 36 isolates for cellulose activity.These findings indicates that Bacillus sp. that isolated from GHNP is a potential microbe for enzymes technology and biotechnology application.

Abstract

The litterfall of Allingia excelsa Noroflha, Schima wallichii (DC) Korth., Castanopsis acuminatissima (Bl.) A. DC, C. javanica (Bl.) A. DC. and Quercus lineata Blume, the dominant tree species of Lower Mountain at Gunung Halimun National Park - West Java were studied.The annual litterfall was 7.0 - 8.2 t ha y and the total litterfall was higher during the rainy season than in the dry season. Each dominant tree species had its own specific pattern of leaf shedding. A. excelsa shed their leaves at the end of the rainy season of the first year, during the biannual period of study, while Q. lineata was opposite.C.javanica shed their leaves mainly in the middle of the rainy season in January to February. There was no clear pattern of leaf shedding on C. acuminatissima,and the species was named as non-seasonally type, while S. wallichii, shed their leaves during the dry season, and was named as the dry season type.

Abstract

Fish fauna survey were conducted in Cimadur, Ciujung and Ciberang Rivers. From these studies six fishes species were found as additional record for fishes living in Gunung Halimun National Park and its adjacent area. This finding brings the fish species living at this park to be sixty.In this record, it includes Cypriniid fishes that attain large size: Barbodes balleroides and Osteochilus hasseltii, found in the segment of the middle of R. Ciujung (18.3 m asl).
