MULYADI. 1989. Fluctuation and composition of phytoplankton community on Dua island mangrove waters (Ban ten bay) 1985 - 1986. Berita Biologi 3(9): 445 - 449.The study was carried out form July 1985 to June 1986 and a number of 29 phytoplankton genera were recorded.Spatial distribution of each genus within the mangrove waters due to the difference of habitat tolerance.Skeletonema, Thalassiosira and Nitzschia are the genera which have wide distribution (22.5%, 17.2% and 15.2% of distribution percentage respectively). The distributions of those genera are not always followed by high abundance. The number and abundance of phytoplankton were higher during the dry season than the rainy season. The highest density of phytoplankton community was recorded in July while the lowest was in March..

I NYOMAN K. KABINAWA, 1989. Study ophytoplankton in Bogor Botanical Garden Ponds Berita Biologi 3(9): 467 - 469. An investigation was carried out in the Bogor Botanical Garden ponds from February 1983- January 1984 to study the diversity, structure and abundance of phytoplanktons. The samples were collected twice a day: in the morning (07.00) and in the afternoon (12.30),twice a week. Among 85 species of phytoplanton observed, Merismopedia punctata, Oiroococcus indicus, Oscillatoria sp.(Cyanophyceae), Scenedesmus quadricaudata, Chlorococcus sp.(Chlorophyceae), and Melosira granula (Bacillariophyceae) were the most common species.Cyanophyceae is the most common group of phytoplankton with the population of 0.680 - 2.80 million cells/1 followed by Chlorophyceae and Bacillariophyceae with the total population of 0.32 - 0.60 and 0.28 - 0.60 million cells/1 respectively. In contrast, the population of Euglenophyceae was only 13,000 cells/1 and Dinophyceae 0 (nil - 120,000 cells/1.Hydrological conditions of water of the Bogor Botanical Garden ponds were good for aqualitic organisms and may belong to the eutrophy water.

MAMAN RAHMANSYAH, 1989,Comparative capability of cellulose degradation by Basidiomy cetes fungi.Berita Biologi 3(9) 450 - 453.Cellulosa is natural resource that still found abandon and its can be composted by themselves naturaly to the earth.Basidiomycetes fungi offered to convert those waste organic matter into useful product.Four Basidiomycetes fungi (Auricularia polytricha, Coprinus cinereus, Pleurotus qstreatus and Volvariella valcacea) have been tested to degrade riee straw, Whatman filter paper and cellulose powder. Three replicates of 3 grams of media were inoculated by different fungus land were fermented for 21 days at room temperature (± 28 C). Biodegradation rare was measured by the lost weight basis of media and bioconvertion rate was detected by stating ability of enzime (cellulose), which were extracted from cellulose powder culture,to convert CMC substrat and glucose production. The result shows that C. cinereus has almost 3 to 4 times degrading and converting capability compared to other fungi.

Little is known about the mangrove forest in that island, especially in Bikoen, Kupang Region. Therefore, the study has been conducted at the mangrove forest of Menipo Nature Reserve in order to analyse the structure and composition of the species.Four transects perpendicular to the coast line were used for data collection. At least, there were 12 mangrove species found in the forest, dominated by Ceriops tagal, Rhizophora stylosa and Bruguiera exaristata. Seedlings dominated the forest by 49,92%, where as the sapling were 45.43%.

MAMAN RAHMANSYAH,1978.Effect of preconditioning treatments on tomato seeds.Berita Biologi 3(9): 473-4 75. The study the effect of preconditioning treatments for tomato seeds on plant growth and production, five thousand tomato seeds were slowly rehydrated from 6 to 12% moisture content. The treated seeds were sown on moist straw paper at low (26°-28°C)and high (26°- 36°C fluctuated temperatures, others were planted after storage for 48 and 60 hours in the in-cubator (40 C).The germination percentages of seeds, pollen fertility, the percentage of fruits developed, the average weight of fruit and the weight of 1000 seeds were evaluated.Plants derived from rehydrating seeds and stored for 48 hours at 40°C gave the best performance on their germination (more than 90%),pollen fertility (95%) and also the highest total fruits harvested but not on fruit and seed weights. The best result of seed treatment were 12% of moisture content and its were stored for 48 hours at 40°C

DYAH SUPRIYATI. 1989. The influence of soil inundation and fertilizer to the pathogenecity of Plasmodiophora brassicae Wor. on caisin plant. Berita Biologi 3(9): 463 - 466: Caisin (Brassica chinensis L.) is a member of family Btassicaceae. One of the important diseases that usually attack the plant is swollen root disease (clubroot). The disease is caused by an obligate parasitic fungi i.e. Plasmodiophora brassicae Wor.The pathogen is very difficult to be destroyed, because it has resting spore that remain viable in the soil for a long time. The purpose of this study is to know the influence of soil inundation and fertilizer to the pathogenecity of P. brassicae on caisin plant. The test design is Completely Randomised Design (CRD) with two treatments , soil inundation for 5 days, 10 days, 15 days and 20 days; giving urea, TSP, KC1, mixture of urea, TSP and KC1 fertilizer, lime and control. The observation was performed when the plant has frown for 25 days in the pot. The result of observation is that the treatments with lime, mix true of urea, TSP and KC1 fertiliser, 20 days and 15 days soil inundation decrease the grade of attact of P. brassicae on caisin plant.

Berita Biologi 3(9): 470 -472.Morphology,flowering biology of the pinang yaki was observed at the Bogor Botanical Gardens. This plant i&imonocious and self pollinated. However, insect visitors appear to play an importantrole of fruit setting. It was showed that the number of fruits setting in isolated inflorescence were smaller than in unisolated inflorescence.During anthesis, the inflorescence were visited by ten species of insects, and Trigona iridipennis was suspected as the palm pollinator.
