Abstract

IKE RACHMATIKA & SOETIKNO WIRJOATMODJO.1988.Feeding ecology of Glyptothorax major Blgr) (Bagaridae, Silurifoimes) in the Ala River,South East Aceh. Berita Biologi. 3(8): 396 399.A study on the feeding ecology of Glyptothorax major (Blgr) was conducted in the Alas River South East Aceh, Sumatra during early dry season, January 1983.Index of Preponderance analysis showed that this species is a benthic-insect feeder It was found that the food habit of immature and mature fish is slightly different. The mature fish's food habit is more varied than the immature's. Based on the concept of the "availability factor"of prey species,a tendency was also found that the mature fish is a more opportunistic of using food resources than the immature's.The supposed mechanisme of this difference and its relation with condition factor values is discussed.

Abstract

Objective of the study is to elucidate phenotype characters of nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) of the third generation (G3)resulted from the selection breeding program in the Research Institute for Freshwater Aquaculture Bogor. Phenotypes of seventeen nile tilapia families, were observed using truss morphometric methods. The results showed that the composition average of standard lenght has low coefficient variation mean (10.42%) as well as coefficient variation of the truss measured characters (4.3- 13.3%). The highest index similarity of boddy shape within family was found in family 5 (79.3%), in contrast the lowest was in family 12 (32.3%). For index similarity between families, the highest score was in between family 12 and 17 (22.6).There were 8 characters enabled to differentiate the 17 families observed. They were Al, A3, A5, B2, C3, C5, C5, and D4. Cluster analyses recognized into 4 groups based on the phenotypic distance

Abstract

Technology of the marine sciences, especially the potential  resources of fish can be evalute from front area identification. The aim of this research is to identify front salinity area based on seasonal variation in the west coastal of Sumatra. The method involved modeling by ODV  (Ocean Data View), Fortran, Transform, and Matlab software. We used salinity data what obtained from NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration). The result showed that vertically, front areas in coastal West of Sumatera for all off season was in depth of ± 41.6 meters, 83.2 meters and 124.8 meters. In the North West Monsoon, salinity front area was around of the Nias, Simeulue, Northwest and southeast  of Enggano islands. On the first of transition period was in West of Simeulue, southeast of Nias, and East Enggano Islands. In the South East Monsoon was in the Northeast of Simeulue, the East of Mentawai, Southeast and Northwest of Enggano Islands. On the second transition period was in the Eastern of Nias and Mentawai Islands. Salinity changes of fourth monsoons on this front area is ± 0,5 psu.

Abstract

Mini rose (Rosa hybrida L.)is one of the favorite ornamental plants. To get a new appearance of this mini rose, two experiments were conducted at Cipanas and Bogor, from April 1999 to March 2000.In the first experiment, the treatment was the dosage of gamma ray irradiation, i.e. 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 krad.In the second experiment, the treatment was the concentration of callus induced mediumi.e. 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) (0.5 and 1 mg/1) + chinetine (1, 3 and 5 mg/1).Randomized Block Design was used with 5 replications. Mini rose Romantica Meilandina (pink color) and Prince Meilandina (dark red color) was used as a source of plant material. The results showed that the irradiation dosage from 1 until 3 krad gave the best appearance compared with the other treatments.Considering the observance to plantlet in the same dosage, the color of the flower was changed from the natural color to white and red color. The combination of 0,5 mg/12,4- dichlorophenoxyacetic acid + 3 mg/1 chinetine was the best medium to the callus growth.

Abstract

Fermentation of rice by Monascus purpureus could produce red yeast rice (angkak) that can be used as drugs to decrease cholesterol and triglycerides increase thrombocyt in patients of dengue fever. To increase the immune system is needed the compounds that can be produced by microorganisms. The aim of study is to know that several strains of Monascus purpureus could produce the immunomodulatory effects or not. The study is about the invitro of phagocytosic activities of macrophage cell and polymorphonuclear of mice. This study had been used the fermented rice extract of five concentration such as 1 mg/ml, 0.1 mg/ml, 0.01 mg/ml, 0.001 mg/ml and 0.0001 mg/ml. As positive control was used 5 mg/ml extracts of meniran herbal, suspension of Staphylococcus aureus and the liquid of mice peritoneum. The results showed that the extract of fermented rice of Monascus purpureus with 1 mg/ml concentration was the same effectiveness as positive control. The conclusion was the extract of fermented rice could increase the fagocyticyt activities of can be concluded that administration of extract some kind of Monascus purpureus to increase the phagocytosis activities of macrophages and polymorphonuclear cells of mice.

Abstract

Pod shattering is one of the sources of yield losses during soybean cultivation in Indonesia. This research aimed to identify the resistant genotypes to pod shattering and the performance of its agronomic characters. The field study was conducted in the dry land of South Lampung from May to August 2017 using twelve soybean genotypes. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design with four replicates. The observation of pod shattering was using oven-dry and sun-drying methods. The result showed that a rise temperature of oven increased the pod shattering. The rates of shattering on oven temperature of 30 °C, 40 °C, 50 °C, and 60 °C were of 0, 8.26%, 46.13%, and 51.06%, respectively. The rate of shattering of oven-dry method at 60 °C ranged from 3.62 – 87.23%. On the sun-drying method, the rate of shattering after 15 days treatment was ranged from 0 – 67.36%. The screening for pod shattering by using the oven-dry method has successfully obtained two resistant varieties to pod shattering (Anjasmoro and G511H/Anj-1-3), whereas by using the sun-drying method there were three resistant genotypes (Anjasmoro, G511H/Anj-1-3, G511H/Anjasmoro-1-4). The evaluation of shattering resistance using oven-dry method resulted in a higher pressure than those of by sun-drying method. The Anjasmoro variety and G511H/Anj-1-3  showed consistent resistance to pod shattering by both methods. The G511H/Anj-1-3produced high yield, have large seed size and early days ofmaturity. Thus, the G511H/Anj-1-3was potentially be developed in Indonesiaand other tropical regions. The availability of a high yield and shattering resistant genotype will be beneficial to increase soybean productivity.
