Abstract

Study on rattans density in 11 locations in the Gunung Halimun National Park (GHNP)had been conducted. Observation had been made in rectangular plot transects of 20 m wide, namely of 500 m long near Cisungsang Village (alt.700 m), 500 m long near Cikidang Village both were in Lebak District, 3650 m long in Gunung (= G) Botol and surroundings (950 - 1750 m asl) including Cikaniki (950 - 1300 m asl) in Bogor District. The plots were located in 6 places. The results had been compiled with previous data from G. Kencana, G.Pameungpeuk, and G. Pangkulahan all from the same park. It was concluded that GHNP had 13 species of rattans. Two dominant species were Calamus heteroideus which had average density (=D) 208 individual stem (= st)/ha and C.javensis D = 84 st/ha. Species distribution was so diverse. Java had 25 species, among them 9 species were endemic, three species among the endemic ones were in GHNP. People in Cisungsang Village were keen to establish local rattan gardens to support their sustainable rattans home industry. Five species have been in their concern.Prospect of rattan cultivation were discussed, as well as regarding an application of their vernacular names.

Abstract

Tropical lowland forest is one type of forest ecosystem that dominated most of Sumatra areal and retained carbon terrestrial within.Tropical lowland forest has the highest risk of damage than other forest types. The aimed of study is to determine species composition and carbon stock in tropical lowland forest, Ulu Gadut, West Sumatra. This study was conducted on June to October 2012 at 1 ha Pinang-Pinang permanent plot. Tree biomass was measured by using the non destructive sampling method. All trees with stem diameter at breast height (dbh) = 8 cm were measured diameter and were recorded the species of trees. As much as 852 individuals of trees, which were consisting of 45 families and 155 species with DBH = 8 cm were found in Pinang-Pinang permanent plot. Nephelium juglandifolium Blume, Swintonia schwenckii (T. & B.) Kurz,Syzygium sp.,Microcos florida (Miq.) Burret, Palaquium sp.,Cleistanthus glandulosus Jabl., Hopea dryobalanoides Miq., Mastixia trichotoma Blume, Calophyllum soulattri Burm. f. and Shorea maxiwelliana King were dominant based on -1 -1 Importance Value Index(IVI). Trees biomass and carbon stock in the study site are around 482.75 ton ha and 241.38 ton C ha respectively.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study storage duration of potato, temperature and drying duration on the quality of Granola potato chips. This research was conducted at Postharvest Laboratory of Indonesian Vegetable Research Institute from May to November 2009. A Randomized Complete Block Design was used with two replications. First factor was storage duration of potato: 1 day, 4 and 7 days. Second factor was temperature: 40°C, 50°C and 60°C. Third factor was drying duration (16, 18, and 20 hours). The result showed that storage period of 1 day, drying temperature at 50°C for 20 hours gave the best quality of potato chip with better consumer preference. Good storage period of raw material, drying condition with appropiate temperature and time of drying could produce good quality of potato chip.

Abstract

YUN INDIARTO.1988,Relationship between percent coverage of Salvinia molesta f nd growth rate of Nile Tilapia (Tilapia nilotica),Berita Biologi 3(8) : 400 - 404.A study on the growth rate of Nile Tilapia in relation to various coverage of S.molesta has been conducted in experimental ponds for twelve weeks. Anaiysis of variance shows that the percent coverage of S.molesta affected significantly the growth rate of the Nile Tilapia (weight : F>F 0.01 and length : F > F0.05).It was found that 50% coverage or more may reduce the tish growth rate. The best growth rate was 1 reached at 25% coverage.Environmental condition:related to the above findings are discussed.

Abstract

In vitro culture can be applied for producing new genotype which is tolerant to biotic and abiotic or to incerase secondary metabolic content. To obtain the optimum result of variety improvement, regeneration system should firstly be found out.It is sufficiently difficult to regenerate pulai pandak (Rauwolfia serpentina L.). Hence, with this system, the improvement of R. serpentina with secondary metabolic content higher than the other. The mother stok of R. serpentina used in this experiment, belongs to the collection of BB-Biogen. Calli were produced from leaves and internodes which is cultured at medium MS contain 2.4-D (0, 1, 3,5, 7 mg/1) combined with caseine hydrolysate 3 mg/1. Regeneration medium was MS contain BA (0,5, 1 mg/1) combined with zeatin (0, 0.1 and 0.5 mg/1) and root formation used was three kinds of auxin (IBA, IAA and NAA). The result showed that inter nodels was better that leaves to callus induction. In this experiment, MS + 2,4-D 1 mg/1 + CH 3 mg/1 was the best medium to induct calli, while medium MS + BA 1 mg/1 + Zeatin 0,5 mg/1 + maltosa 3% to regenerate and MS + IBA lmg/1 for root induction.

Abstract

A study on diversity of arbuscular fungi (AF) in forest area and small plantation in eastern part of Enggano island was done. Twelve species of AF were identified from this island. Eleven species had been reported from Java and associated with different kinds of plant, but three species i.e.  Gigaspora gigantea, Glomus multicaule and Scutellospora heterogama were not common, while Sclerocystis taiwanensis is a new record for Indonesia. All species of AF recorded from this island were described by their morphological characters and their  distribution in Enggano island were presented.

Abstract

A study was conducted in order to know the effect of soil microorganism as biofertilizer on the growth and yield of soybean (Glycine max L.) in Malang, East Java. The purpose of the study was to get inoculants as biofertilizer to improve the production of soybean. The experiment was carried out in Bantur village, Bantur district, South Malang, East Java, by using the rice land. The strain used were five single inoculants as follows: A (Bio 20R + Bio 22R + Bio 277R), B (Bio 277R + Bio 278R + Bio 302R), C (1L + 8L + Bio 302R), D (Bio 20R + Bio 22R + Bio 277R + Bio 278R + Bio 302R + 1L + 8L), V (MVA fungi), and four mixed inoculants (AV, BV, CV, and DV). Four controls as uninoculated plant and without fertilizer (Ki), uninoculated plant and with Urea fertilizer equal to 100 kg/ha (K2), uninoculated plant and with TSP fertilizer equal to 80 kg/ha (K3), uninoculated plant and with Urea and TSP fertilizer (K4). The experiment was designed as Randomized Complete Block as 13 treatments with three replications for each treatment, and interval planted with 20 x 35 cm. The plants were harvested after 90 days. The parameters of investigation were the dry weight of canopy, roots, root nodules, seeds, 100 of seeds, number of nodules and pods with harvest productions. The results showed that single inoculants (MVA fungi) and mixed inoculants CV (1L + 8L + Bio 302R) and MVA fungi) gave better results on the production of soybean.

Abstract

Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) and Inter-Simple Sequence Repeats (ISSR) markers were used to evaluate the genetic stability of micropropagated plants of ‘Pisang Kepok Unti Sayang’ at various stage of in vitro sub-cultures and in vivo plant material. All RAPD and ISSR profiles from micropropagated plants were monomorphic and similar to those of field grown control plants until stage tenth of sub cultures (V1S10). No variation was detected within the micropropagated plants, except for C12 (V1S44),G7 (V1S48 ), I11 and I12 (V1S10).RAPD and ISSR marker were both could be used to test the genetic stability of micropropagated bananas using the developed protocol.
