Abstract

Hylarana nicobariensis (Stoliczka, 1870) is a very common frog, which has a wide distribution, covering the southern part of Thailand, Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra, Borneo, Java, Bali and Palawan in the Philippines. The presence of this frog is very easy to be recognized by listening its shrill call that is sounded loudly all day. Detailed descriptions of H. nicobariensis’s calls from Ulu Gombak in Peninsular Malaysia and Danum Valley in Sarawak have been published by Jehle and Arak (1998), which are some call characters of the frog from the two locations are significantly different. To determine the call characters that can distinguish among populations of this frog, advertisement calls of five different populations (Batukaru, Curup, Limau Manis, Curug Nangka and Lake Ecology Park) were analyzed. The characters of the call waves on the five populations are different in the structure of sub-pulses, dominant frequency and lower frequency. Among the five populations, the population from Lake Ecology Park is the most different in the terms of the dominant frequency (3996.95 ± 124.74 Hz) and lower frequency (1692.51 ± 80.77 Hz), of this population both these characters occupy the highest level compared to four other populations; however individuals from Curup occupy the lowest level on dominant frequency (2919.67 ± 67.76 Hz) and lower frequency (832.96 ± 32.42 Hz).Key words: Ranidae, Hylarana nicobariensis, bioacoustics

Abstract

Dalam tulisan ini diuraikan karakter morfologi, habitat dandistribusi empat jenis sotong mini jenis I. picteti, I. pygmaeus, I. biserialis dan I. pygmaeusherbereri. Keywords: Cephalopoda, distribution, habitat, Idiosepiidae, Indo-PacificKata kunci: Cephalopoda, distribusi, habitat, Idiosepiidae, Indo-Pacific

Abstract

ABSTRACTMetabolism of Benzonitriles by Flavobacterium sp. NUB 1. Flavobacterium sp. NUB 1 was isolated from industrial waste of PT. Petrokimia Gresik. The bacterium was able to utilize benzonitrile and acetonitrile and propionitril as the sole source of carbon and nitrogen. Growth on benzonitrile gave higher growth rate and biomass yield than growth on acetonitrile and propionitrile. When Flavovobacterium sp. NUB1 grew on benzonitril 15 mM , the doubling time is 9 hours 54 minutes and the specific growth rate (?) was 0,07 h-1. Whole cell of Flavobacterium sp. NUB 1 could hydrolyzed aromatic and aliphatic nitriles. The bacteria isolate has ability in metabolism of acetonitrile greater than benzonitrile. Activity of nitrile hydratase and amidase are more dominant than nitrilase in metabolism of benzonitrile.Key words: Biodegradation, benzonitril, Flavobacterium sp. Abstract

A phytosociological study has been conducted in the south-east slope of Mount Salak, Sukabumi, West Java.Vegetation data were analyzed using 21 plots made of 30 m x 30 m which covered various habitat conditions. Atotal of ninety seven tree species (dbh. ≥ 10 cm) were recorded belonging to 72 genera and 39 families. The mostdominant families occurred in the study area were Fagaceae, Hammamelidaceae and Euphorbiaceae, followed byTheaceae, Meliaceae and Sapindaceae. The dominance of those families was apparently from the contribution ofthe most dominant species Altingia excelsa and the other species such as the Schima wallichii, Castanopsis javanica,Pometia pinnata, and Lithocarpus korthalsii. Spatial distribution of the vegetation is affected by altitude and/orhabitat slope which develop forest community patterns, such as lowland forest, lower and upper slope forests, aswell as lower and upper mountain forests. The distribution of tree species also follows this pattern, i.e certainspecies only occur on certain (specific) habitat type. Keywords: species ekology, Gunung Halimun-Salak National Park, phytosociology
