Abstract

This paper describes a study that compared heat release, performance and exhaust emission from asingle cylinder direct injection engine fueled with dual-fuel (Compressed Natural Gas, CNG), with thoseIndonesian dieselfuel (solar). The dualfuel tested was mixture of about 80% CNG-20% Solar. The study isbased on the engine test bed results from Centerfor Thermodynamics, Engines and Propulsion-BPPT. Thetest results have shown that for a given engine speed, the diffusive combustion phase period on the enginefueled with dualfuel were shorter than dieselfuel, whereas the late combustion phase were longer. However,premixed orrapid combustion phase periodfor dualfuel were shorter at low speedandlonger at high speedthan thosefoundfor dieselfuel. Enginefueled with dualfuel pratically produced the same maximum torqueandpower asenginefueled with dieselfuel 100%, andean be operated on large range ofspeed. The emissiontest results have shown a lower particulate matter, slightly higher hydrocarbon (HC) andcarbon monoxide(CO) than the same enginefueled. Oxide ofNitrogen (NOx) emissionfrom dual-fueled however was generallyhigher. The data obtained in this study indicate that dualfuel has promise asan emission reducing alternativefuelfor dieselengine, mainly onparticulate emission.

Abstract

This research is designed to studythe microstructure properties of309 (HHtype) cast stainless steel.The materialwas manufacturedon an air cooling castingprocess. SS309 ACnotation is given to the materialto differ itfrom the same material made by mould cooling casting process (SS309 MC). The compositioncontrolduringcastingprocess has proven to ensurebothmaterials having austenitic structure. TheSS309 ACand SS309 MC austenite microstructure is stabilized with chromium carbide precipitate Cr7C3 aroundaustenite grain boundary and intergranullarly. However the optical microscope test showed the carbideprecipitate in SS309 AC is distributedmore homogenthan in SS309 MC. Thisstructure isfavorable for heatresistantcast stainless steel because it acts as austenite stabilizer in high temperature application. Thetensiletest shows that the SS 309 AC tensile strength (568.89 MPa) is qualified with the HH grade standard(550 MPa). This value is also better compared withSS309 MCtensile strength (543.9 MPa). TheSS309 MChas bigger carbideprecipitate grain size whichreduces its ductility.

Abstract

Usually, a modern industry requires theproduction keep going on with the least interrupt as possible,butfrequently, the unscheduled maintenance will waste money in a large amount which is allocated in amodern industry needs an enormous investment. Machines with good condition generally produce a littlerelative of vibration but with increase in service life, the vibration of machine will increase. In somecondition, the increase in quite drastic vibration probablymay occur. Thisphenomenon is an indicator thatthe machine must have an immediate repair. This vibration spectrum analysis is tried to conductedfor thetransmission system of differential gear. By means to use the alternative tools beside DSA (Dynamic SignalAnalyzer), that is CREATIVE SOUNDBLASTER AUDIGY LS5.1 and MATLAB 6.5 whichhave Fast FourierTransform facility and so, can to know the real condition gear by time domain andfrequency domain. Thevibration spectrum analysiswhich donetofocus byidentification signal ofproblem which comebygear meshlikegear meshfrequency ofhypoidgear andside gear.

Abstract

In a combined cycle power plant without supplementary firing, the efficiency ofthe plant dependsmainly on the efficiency ofgas turbine powerplant. The power plant will be able to run over awide range i.erunfew gas turbines and opearting the remaining gas turbine at the highest efficiency close to thefull load.This paper presents some results ofstudy that carried out to evaluate the effect ofload variation ofthe GasTurbine Power Plant on the performance ofHeat Recovery Steam Generator ofthe combined cycle powerplant.

Abstract

The weakness of a laser cutting edges product is tapering form. Sometime tapering is an unwantedperformance product and needfinishing processes to eliminate its. Setting ofparameters cutting can minimizetapering. Amodeling of process is needed to represent the relationship influence of each parameter cutting.But there are difficulties torepresent them tobemathematical models. The solutionfor this case is use one ofArtificial Neural Network (ANN) method what is called Back Propagation. This is an appropriate method toprocess input - output data to be a model process. The results show that the tapering is significantlyinfluenced by the parameters process, the nozzle speed andgas pressure, having the most significant effects.

Abstract

Effect of the211-phase inclusion to the electrical properties ofYBa2Cu307.x superconductor grown bya melt-texturing process has been investigated. The qualitative andquantitative analysis was carried out bythe x-ray diffraction technique using the Rietveld methode andthe electrical properties were investigated bythefour pointprobe methode. The analysisresults showthat the highestcritical current density was obtainedon the 123-phase matrix containing 35 weight%ofthe211-phase. Due to the 211-inclusion in the 123-phase,thefluxflow phenomenon does not longer exist. The criticalcurrent Jc in the 123-phase increaseon accountofthe 211-inclusion, where as the Jc tend to increae with increasing the 211-phase content. The further of211-phaseincrease, however, lead to a decreaseofJc value.
