Abstract

Interaction Ag with 2223phaseBSCCO superconductor. The addition o/Ag20 (0, 2.5, 5, and10 wt%Ag) to matrix of2223 phase BSCCO superconductor that sintered at 845 oCfor 72 hours in air have beeninvestigated. The Agadditions promote thedecomposition of2223phasesto 2212phasesBSCCO andcausedpresent some impurities phases. The impurities areproducted bythe Agaddition ableto be usedas effectivelypinning sources to hold vortex (flux line) movement. The Tcmeasurement results are 111 K, 107 K, 105 K,and103Kwith addition ofO, 2.5, 5, and10 wt%Ag respectively. The Jc measurement results are 3.6xl(f,5.6x1(f, 6.9x1(f, and U.8xl(fAm2 with addition ofO, 2.5, 5, and 10 wt%Ag respectively. From theXRDanalysis shown that the addititon ofAg caused peaks of 2212phases BSCCO are clearly visible and thesamples contain some impurities phases (CuO, Ca^CuO^, dan CajPbOJ. From the SEM analysis shown thatthe addititon ofAg should lead to a slight increase of the plate like grain size of 2223phase BSCCO withincreasing Ag content. From this experiment we conclude that the Tc depress and the Jc enhance withincreasing Agcontent. The addititon ofAg should leadtoa slight increase ofthe platelike grain size of 2223phase BSCCO with increasingAg content.

Abstract

Hardness of Microstructures of The As Cast (Al-Si) with different thickness, The aim of theresearch is to investigate effect ofthickness of casting on thehardness and microstructure ofaluminumsilicon.Theresearch started by melting the Al-I0%Si at 750 "C. A wood pattern which varies in thicknesswas used in the making a sandmould. The molten metal was poured into the sandmould. Finally the ascastis cut, grinded andpolishedfor metallographic andhardness testing. An etching solution, HCl I %was usedfor metallographic and the sampleswereobserved under a SEMmachine. The Vickers hardnesstesting machine is used. The experimental researches show that reducing in thickness of casting willreduce silicon-eutectic size and increase the hardness.

Abstract

The mechanical properties ofsteel billets, slabs orblooms are controlled by the chemical compositionand by the treatment and/or mechanical treatment to which the steel is submitted. However, structuraldefects, such as non-metallic inclusions, are also responsible for theperformance ofthis material when it issubmitted to mechanical stress. The problem in clean steel manufacture is to reduce the overall numbers ofinclusions andtheir size distribution. By controlling the amount, distribution, size andchemical compositionofnon-metallic inclusions, it is possible to get clean steel with good quality. The identification ofthe natureand the control of inclusionformation inliquid steel are very importantfor steelcleans. The main purpose ofladlefurnacetreatment is to ensure that themolten steel has therequired temperature when theladle is takenover at downstream secondary metallurgy units or at a continuous caster. Besides the temperature of themelt, thesteel analysis is also calculated on-line, basedon the influences ofalloying element additions anddesulphurisation. Minimization of the number of solid silicate inclusions must take place after deoxidantaddition andbefore pouring into the CCM. A ladle furnace is used to relieve the primary melter of mostsecondary refining operations, and its primaryfunctions are "reheating of liquid steel through electric powerconducted by graphite electrodes., homogenization of liquid steel temperature and chemistry through inertgas stirring, andformation of a slag layer that protects refractory from arc damage, consentrates andtransfers heat to the liquid steel, trap non-metallic and metallic inclusions, and provide the means fordesulphurization ". Normal stirring operatios are performed by percolating argon gas through a purge plugarrangement in the bottom of the ladle. In this present work, a study of chemical composition, the solidsilicate inclusions has been carried out in 1041.84 ton liquid low carbon steel Grade 1015 collected insteelplant, duringthestages ofsecondaryrefinement ofsuchsteel.

Abstract

Tapering Effect of parameter EDM in hole making process. EDM is one of nontraditional machining. There are some advantages of this process for instance suitable for machininghigh strength temperature resistance material, accurate and beableto make complex geometricfeature.How ever, there aresomeweaknesses: lowrateof material removal, tapering, highcostandenvironmentproblem. This paper willexamine the influence ofcutting parameter toward tapering using EDMinholemaking process. The parameters are electric current (from 15A, 20 A, 30 A, 45 A and60 Ampere) andthe dutyfactor (from 30%, 40%, 50%, 60%, 70% and90%). Experiment has been donewith SKD 11 aswork piece material, Cufor electrode and kerosenefor dielectricfluid. Taper can bemeasured by usingTriobor which has I micrometer resolution. Conclusion of the experimental showed that variation ofelectric current gives different taper values.

Abstract

The weakness of a laser cutting edges product is tapering form. Sometime tapering is an unwantedperformance product and needfinishing processes to eliminate its. Setting ofparameters cutting can minimizetapering. Amodeling of process is needed to represent the relationship influence of each parameter cutting.But there are difficulties torepresent them tobemathematical models. The solutionfor this case is use one ofArtificial Neural Network (ANN) method what is called Back Propagation. This is an appropriate method toprocess input - output data to be a model process. The results show that the tapering is significantlyinfluenced by the parameters process, the nozzle speed andgas pressure, having the most significant effects.

Abstract

This studywas done to know the effect ofTi02 addition on the characteristics qfFe203ceramics and the effect of a heat treatment at low temperature on the electrical characteristics ofFe203:lmTi ceramics including the mechanism ofits change as well. The Fe203:lmTi ceramics wereproduced bysintering some green pellets from mixture of 99.9 mole %Fe203 and I mole %Ti02 at1200°C for I hour in air. A heat treatment was carried out at 75(fC in air with a cooling rate ofTC/minute. Electrical resistivity ofthe ceramics was measured at different temperatures before andafter heat treatment. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis was done to know the crystal structure of theceramics and phases formed therein. It was known that the crystal structure of the Fe203 andFe203:lmTi ceramics was thesame i.e. that similar to hematite. The electricalcharacteristics showedthat the room temperature resistivity (psn) of the Fe203 ceramics drastically decreased with I mole %Ti02 addition and showedthat the (pSR) oftheFe203:lmTi ceramics increased significantly while thevalue of the thermistor constant (B) relatively did not change, after the heat treatment. The increase of(psn) after the heat treatment was caused by lessformation of oxygen vacancies which behave as theelectron sourcefor conduction band.

Abstract

Radiator Performance Characteristic Test. Test ofradiatorperformance characteristic atvarious flow rates has been done. The test is aimed to verify the specification given by vendor and todefine radiator performance, such as temperature effectiveness (e), Number of Transfer Unit (NTU) andpressure drop at around of design condition as a solution ofrating problem. Based onthe test results thisradiator was well designed. Temperature effectiveness variesaround60 to 85% and NTUshowed a goodagreement with the theoretical model. The different are around 0.1% to 5.3%>. Pressure drops are stillaccepted by design criteria. Especially for airside, the pressure drops arearound 29 to 392 Pa which arestill inferiorsthan 900Pa.

Abstract

Experimental study of performance characteristic of micro-hydro water turbine hasbeen done in Kabitpaten Bogor. In this study performance is defined as a turbine efficiency which isrepresented by ratio between mechanical energy provided by turbine and an available potential energyofwater at a various conditions offlow. The study was limited only at several variation ofwater flowrate because the turbine installation is only equipped by conventional control system. Water level inthe basin was measured by level water meter with the precision is around 10%, while water flow ratewas measured by bridge flow meter. Mechanical energy is calculatedfrom measurement ofrotationalmoment and rotation of shaft. The moment was measured by calibrated hydraulic dynamometer andthe shaft rotation was measured by stroboscope. Based on the test results, at the full capacity (0.305mlIs flow rate and 3.17 mhead) the turbine showed agood performance with the efficiency is around59%.

Abstract

STUDY ON THE APPLICA TION OF ZnBiCo CERAMICS AS NTC THERMISTORS. A study onthe application ofZnO-Bi203-CoO (ZnBiCo) ceramicsfor NTC thermistors had been carried out. The aim ofthisstudywas tofind alternative NTCthermistors. The studywas done as follow. Powder ofZnO, CoO andBi203 with concentration of Bi203 of 0, 0.25, 0.5, and 0.75 mole % and of CoO of 2 mole % werehomogeneously mixed. The mixedpowder was pressed with pressure of3.9ton/cm2 into pellets and sinteredat HOCfC in airfor 1 hour. The sintered pellets were evaluated using x-ray diffraction (XRD), opticalmicroscope andSEM(Scanningelectron microscope). Resistivity-temperature characteristic (p-Tcurve) wasdetermined through measurement of resistivity at various temperatures from room temperature to WCfC.XRD andmicrostructure datashowed thatmostofCoOformed a solid solution withZnOmatrix while Bi203was segregated at grain boundaries as ZnO,24Bi203 second phase. It was known that the all ceramicsproducedin this studyhad the same structure i.e. hexagonal. It was known also that the addition ofBi203increased the average grain size of the ZnBiCo ceramics. Electrical data showed that Bi203 increased theroom temperature resistivity (ps^) and the thermistor constant (B) of the ZnBiCo ceramic thermistors. Thethermistor constant and sensitivity (a) of the thermistor ceramics in this study were relatively high (largerthan 200(fKfor Band larger than 2.2 (°K)~lfor a)andsuitableforcommercial application.
