Abstract

ABSTRACT The objective of this research is (1) to find out that the historical event that becomes the time set in ?óÔé¼?£Fences?óÔé¼Ôäó compared to the real life; (2) to find out Troy Maxson?óÔé¼Ôäós characteristics can be seen as the portrayal of Black American people who live in the same period as happened in ?óÔé¼?£Fences?óÔé¼Ôäó. The method used in this research is qualitative by using historical approach. The outcome of this research are (1) The setting used in this drama are ?é?á(a) historical setting; the drama takes place from the year 1950?óÔé¼Ôäós until 1960?óÔé¼Ôäós in America and (b) geographical setting; the drama takes place in Pittsburg, America; (2) Troy as the main character in ?óÔé¼?£Fences?óÔé¼Ôäó has characteristics as (a) realistic man and when its compared to the life of black people in that era, it is still hard for the black people to achieve their dream such as the baseball player because he knows the condition at that time is hard for black people who want to be athletes; (b) uneducated, illiterate man and it is appropriate to the education condition in that era for blacks are segregated and very poor; (c) high tempered is as the consequence of the racial tension and discrimination toward blacks at that time. ?é?á Keywords: setting, historical approach, characteristics, Black American people.

Abstract

This study aims at observing the benefit and the teaching technic of teaching writitng at Sekolaha alam Ar Ridho seamrang. This is a nature based school in which emphasis the teaching learning process basis of nature.Based on the case we need a school which has goals to prepare students who have good attitude, faithful, and knowledge. The writer wants to know the benefits and technique of teaching using natural environment in “Sekolah Alam Ar-Rhido” Tembalang, especially for teach writing skill. This study focuses on the examining three main problems; the technique of teaching writing in Sekolah Alam Ar-Ridho; the effectiveness of Teaching Writing in the natural environment ; the problems faced by the teacher and students in teaching learning process in the natural environment and how the teacher solve the problem.The writer wants to know the benefits and technique of teaching using natural environment in “Sekolah Alam Ar-Rhido” Tembalang, especially for teachwriting skill. Abstract

The objectives of this research are (1) to find out the speaking ability of SMA Negeri 2 Rembang students before being taught using series pictures of storytelling, (2) to find out the speaking ability of SMA Negeri 2 Purwodadi students after being taught using series pictures of storytelling, and (3) to find out whether or not there is a significant difference of speaking ability of SMA Negeri 2 Purwodadi students before and after being taught using series pictures of storytelling.This study uses Experimental method. The number of populations in this research is30 students. The method of data collection is spoken test. First the writer gives pre-test to the students and scores. Second the writer gives a treatment for two meetings at this time, the writer implements the series pictures in classroom activities. At last, the writer gives the students a post test. The data analysis reveals that the mean of pre-test score is 61,03 ; it is at fair level. The mean of post-test score is 76,1 ; it is at good level. Then the result of t-test is9,71, and the t-table of 30 students is2,04. The result of t-test is higher than t-table. Based on research analysis, the writer takes conclusions: first the speaking ability of the students before being taught using series pictures of storytelling is fair, second the speaking ability of the students after being taught using series pictures of storytelling is good, and last there is significant improvement of English speaking ability of the students taught by using series pictures of storytelling. The writer also suggests to all of teachers of senior high school. It is better for them to use the media of series pictures of storytelling to improve the students’ speaking ability. It is for the simple reason that a series pictures are a media to improve the speaking ability at storytelling. The writer also suggests to the students that the study is as recommendation to motivate the students in improving the students’ speaking ability. The students are encouraged to give their opinions, ideas and imagination about the presented pictures. Definition of key terms (1) series picture A picture is an illustration of pictures that can be used as a two dimensional visual representation of percent, place, or things. (2) Media is any extension of man which allows him to affect other people who are not in face to face with him. (3) Story telling is In this research storytelling is used to improve the students’ speaking ability. It caused that storytelling can improve the ideas and imagines their story and express it by telling the story. It helps the students to speak and talk active.

Abstract

Discovery learning is a method which recomended in 2013 curriculum. This method allows the students to seek the information and construct their knowledge by doing some activities. Since 2013, Indonesia conducted new curriculum. There are three recommended methods in this curriculum including Discovery learning.Discovery learning is the suitable method in 21th century. The studentsmust be active learners. This method not only make the students academic enhanced but also this method can make the students have a good attitude by doing all the process of using this method in teaching and learning process. Abstract

The utterances produced by people have speech acts, especially in the English teaching learning process. One of them is directive speech acts. Thus, this study aimed at identifying the directive speech acts and its functions in teaching vocabulary of the eight grade students of MTs Husnul Khatimah in the academic year 2011-2012. This study was carried out under a descriptive qualitative method. The data of this study were taken from the eighth grade students. The sample of the study was 30 students. The writers conducted the study in one meeting when the class was studying vocabularies in a recount text. The data were collected by recording the utterances produced by the teacher and the students. Then, the writer transcribed the record of the data. It was analyzed by identifying directive speech acts of the utterances and describing the functions of the directive speech acts. The writers found that there are twenty directives speech acts during the teaching learning process. All of them are imperatives or commands. The teacher uttered twenty-three orders to the students, while the students uttered one request to the teacher. The teacher directive speech acts have functions as a command, permission, prohibition and encouragement to the students.

Abstract

This final project is aimed for applying Read Encode Annotate and Ponder (REAP) technique for teaching reading comprehension. The objectives of the research are, (1) to find out the students’ reading comprehension after being taught without using REAP technique. (2) to find out the students’ reading comprehension after being taught by using REAP technique. (3) to know whether there is any significant difference of students’ reading comprehension being taught by using REAP technique and without REAP technique. Following the study case the writer used quantitative research. The research design of this study is true experimental design. The sample is the eleventh grade students at SMA Negeri 6 Semarang in Academic Year 2014-2015. There are three classes used, they are the experimental class, control class and a class to be tried out. The writer used test to collect the data. The data was gained from the tests that were given to the students. The study found that the mean score for the class taught without REAP technique was 78.16 and the mean score for the class taught with using REAP technique was 92.05. The students’ score that was taught by using REAP technique was better than students’ score that taught without REAP technique. There was any significant difference between experimental group and control group, because the computation t-test was 7.5. So that  is higher than  because 7.5 > 2.00. It means that is acceptable and  is rejected. Based on the study, it can be concluded that using REAP technique to increase reading comprehension has positive influence to the students. So, English teachers have to use REAP technique to increase the students’ reading comprehension.

Abstract

Reading comprehension is a major objective of language instruction in English learning concept teaching in senior high school. As one of macro skill of English it is being important part in English Language Teaching. So, the teacher should teach actively to helpstudents get the ultimate goal of reading instruction. Jigsaw is one of cooperative learning which is interesting to be applied to boost students’ motivation in learning English especially to reading skill. The activities is centered to the students, so it can stimulated students activeness because they involved in active learning.Based on the tittle, the formulation of the problem was: 1) Is the prepared test curricularly valid and reliable?,2) What are the results of pretest and posttest using jigsaw method?, 3)Is there any significant difference result of pretest and posttest using jigsaw method? Design of this research was pre-experimental design by pretest-posttest one group.  Research subject was students in SMPN 13 Berau while object of the research was the use of jigsaw method in reading instruction. The population of this research was 100 students of seventh grade of SMPN 13 Berau, and the sample was 30 students taken by random sampling technique. The instrument was test then analyzed by scoring, normality, homogeneity, mean, t test and hypothesis testing. The results of this research are; 1) The test instrument used in this research was appropriate in term of the objective and applicable in this particular situation because the prepared test curricularly valid and reliable, 2)The result of posttest slightly higher than pretest in conducted jigsaw method in SMPN 13 Berau, 3) There is significant difference of jigsaw method used that exists on respondents specifically students in SMPN 13 Berau during learning English as Second Language (ESL) specifically for reading instruction.The hypothesis of this researchis accepted because there is significant effect of Jigsaw Method in Improving Students Reading Comprehension to the First Grade At SMPN 13 Berau 2017/2018.

Abstract

Abstract ?é?á This paper discusses mainly on?é?á the development of the language acquisition of the three year old child. The object of the study happens to be the writer?óÔé¼Ôäós granddaughter. So he could observe her totally, day by day for three years to see how her?é?á language acquisition developed. He recorded the produced sounds, words and sentences whether they are meaningful or not in order to see how she finally could form?é?á meaningful utterances. The fact that learning a first language needs much energy, time and endless effort; since she was?é?á a baby, the environment (the parents, grandparents, aunts etc) has been trying to stimulate her to talk. The response is astounding; she seems to understand what the adults have been communicating. Gradually, when she is three years old she can produce meaningful words, or utterances that can be understood by the adults and even can be used for communication. ?é?áTherefore, in this paper, the writer will reveal the process of how a child learns her mother tongue and show the progress of the language acquisition starting from the first cry until the ability to produce meaningful utterances. ?é?á

Abstract

The research was pointed to progress the students’ speaking abilities of the tenth of  SMA Negeri 1 Pejagoan by actualizing the role-play technique. It was carried out based on the strategy that had been arranged some time recently. The observation was action research. It was conducted in three cycles with one assembly in the to begin with cycle and 2 gatherings in the moment and third cycle. The subjects of this inquire about were 32 students of lesson tenth grade at SMA Negeri 1 Pejagoan. The subjective information were collected by watching the educating and learning handle, and meeting the students, the instructor and the collaborators. The information were in the shape of field notes, meet transcripts, and photos. In the interim, the quantitative information were collected through evaluating the students’ speaking execution by comparing the implies of the pretest and post test. The information were the students’ speaking ability. The strategy of the inquire about comprised of surveillance, arranging, acting, and reflecting. The comes about of this inquire about appeared that the utilize of Part Playing procedure was effective to move forward the students’ talking capacity. Based on the subjective information, the utilize of classroom English made a difference the understudies to be more recognizable with English. Abstract

This research is aimed: 1) To insvestigate the students ability in written descriptive text taught without playing card in the case of eighth grade students of SMP 4 Semarang in academic year 2013/2014. 2) To insvestigate the students ability in written descriptive text taught by using playing card in the case of eighth grade students of SMP 4 Semarang in academic year 2013/2014. 3) To know the significances between students ability in written descriptive text taught without playing card and taught by using playing card. The final paper used descriptive quantitative method. The sample of this final paper was 8E class of SMP 4 Semarang. The sampling of the final paper was non random sampling. The total sample of the research were 32 students. Instrument of the research were pre-test and post-test. The conclusions from this final paper are: 1) The precentage of the eigth grade students’ ability in written descriptive text taught without playing card were 29% students got A, 41.9% students got B, 12.9% students got C and 16.1% students got D. The mean of the pre test score was 74.45. The students ability in written descriptive text that were taught without using playing card was good. 2) the percentages of the eight grade students ability in written descriptive text who were taught by using playing card were 51.6% students got A, 35.5% students got B, 12.9% students got C. The mean of the post test was 81.32. The student’s ability of writtten descriptive text raised significantly from 74.45 points to 81.32 points (raised 6.87 points). There were no more students who got D or E after they are taught by using playing card. The analysis of pre tes and post test by using SPSS 16 showed that T test was higher than T table (2.528 > 2.222). There was significances of using playing card as media in teaching written descriptive. The students ability in written descriptive text taught by using playing card was very good.
