Jurnal Gantang is a peer-reviewed journal. Jurnal Gantang is published two numbers per year by Raja Ali Haji Maritime University, Tanjungpinang, Riau Islands, Indonesia. The articles written for Jurnal Gantang are state-of-the-art research articles in the field of Mathematics Education. Starting in 2022, Jurnal Gantang will be published in May and November twice a year. Jurnal Gantang publishes scientific writings on the results of thoughts, very carefully selected literature studies, and research in the field of Mathematics Education. Jurnal Gantang is a journal with a blind review system that is an essential aspect of disseminating knowledge. The realization of a scientific approach can be supported by writing the results of a blind review. Jurnal Gantang accommodates the results of studies and research in the fields of Mathematics Education with various research frames such as Research development/R&D Classroom action research Educational Design Research Experiment with different types Qualitative Studies (Investigative, Analytical, Descriptive Studies, and the like) Ethnographic studies Literature/Library Studies Other research with a quantitative approach The topics raised can be: Learning innovation and the use of ICT in supporting the learning process Mathematics Learning Context and Media Innovation Strategies and Approaches to Learning Mathematics Mathematical Literacy and Numeracy Indonesian Realistic Mathematics Education (IRME) Ethnomathematics Misconceptions in Mathematical Topics Mathematics Learning Based on Cultural Potential and Local Wisdom Enrichment of Mathematics Teaching Materials Mathematics Learning Evaluation Mathematics Education Curriculum and Policy Learning Mathematics in College Development of Science and Technology in Mathematics STEM, STEAM, and Lesson Study And others

Abstract

Mathematical creative thinking (MCT) is an essential 21st-century competency and is closely related to mathematical disposition (MD). However, both remain underdeveloped due to ineffective instructional designs. This study reports the development and validity of Realistic Mathematics Education (RME)-based instructional materials on one-variable linear equations (O-VLE) for seventh-grade students, integrating MCT and MD simultaneously. The study follows the McKenney and Reeves development research model, consisting of analysis & exploration, design & construction, and evaluation & reflection. The analysis phase revealed that Indonesian junior high school students generally demonstrate low MCT, partly due to weak mathematical disposition and procedural, rote-based algebra instruction. Therefore, meaningful learning was designed using RME with an edutainment context. The instructional materials were developed based on four MCT indicators (fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration) and six MD indicators (curiosity, enthusiasm, tenacity, self-confidence, willingness to share, and appreciation of mathematics). Expert judgment confirmed that both the teaching module and student worksheet achieved high validity. Future research will evaluate the practicality and effectiveness of the developed instructional materials through classroom implementation.

Abstract

Mathematical representation skills are essential for helping students build concepts and express mathematical ideas using symbols, images, and words. However, students’ mathematical representation skills remain relatively low, so innovations in learning approaches are needed to encourage students to construct meaningful knowledge. This study aims to develop a student worksheet based on the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach that is valid and practical, and that facilitates the development of mathematical representation skills among phase D students. This study uses a 4D Development model consisting of the define, design, develop, and disseminate stages. The research instruments include a validation sheet and a practicality questionnaire. The validation results show that the worksheet is highly valid, with an average percentage score of 95.70%, while the practicality test results from field tests conducted on 37 students of class IX.2 SMPN 4 Pekanbaru obtained a percentage of 89.32% with a very practical category. Thus, the RME-based student worksheet developed has met the criteria of validity and practicality and is suitable for use in learning to support students' mathematical representation skills.

Abstract

Mathematics education in Indonesia faces challenges, with only 28% of students achieving minimum numeracy proficiency. This study aims to develop the Ethnomathematics Tour (E2TOUR) electronic learning medium, specifically designed to strengthen the numeracy skills of 9th-grade students at SMPN 1 Tanjungpinang. Using the Research and Development (R&D) method based on the ADDIE model (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation), this study explores the cultural richness of Bintan Regency—such as the Jong boat—and integrates it into an interactive virtual tour. This study used validation and practicality instruments, with a quantitative descriptive data analysis technique through the calculation of average scores, which were converted into percentages to determine the feasibility and practicality categories of the media. The results of the validity test conducted by experts in media, subject matter, and language showed an average score of 86.39%, placing it in the “highly acceptable” category. Additionally, the practicality test yielded an average score of 72.5%, which was categorized as practical for classroom use. These findings indicate that E2TOUR is a valid and practical medium for delivering contextual mathematics instruction relevant to students’ local culture.
