Abstract

Utilization of dry land resources most available in the upper watershed which hilly landform and heavy rainfall. This leads to erosion event and resulting decrease of land productivity. Thus, it needs application of conservation techniques to optimize the utilization of dry land in the upstream watershed. The aims of study are to identify the conservation application on the farm vegetables, to examine the perception of farmers towards conservation farming, and to assess the participation of farmers in conservation farming in the Upper Jeneberang watershed. Research sites in the upstream watershed Jeneberang, Gowa in South Sulawesi. The population is vegetable farming. The respondents did sampling randomly with number 182 farming. Data analysis methods used is descriptive analysis that is equipped with a qualitative analysis that are category and comparison analysis. The results showed the level of farmers' perceptions about the benefits of conservation has been generally high, the benefits to the prevention of erosion (61.54%), soil fertility (58.89%), availability of water (64.84%) and prevention of floods and landslides (67.58 %). The high perception of farmers on the benefits of conservation is not followed by the participation of farmers in conservation farming. This is evident from the participation in counseling following the generally very low (56.59%), participation in the application of generally low conservation (27.47%), while participation in the maintenance has been generally high (31.32%).

Abstract

Deadema setosum are sea urchins which are very sensitive to heavy metal pollutants. In this research, the observation of behavioral responses namely the behavior of moving and resting Deadema setosumare conducted. They are caused by exposure of different heavy metals Cd at 4 agurium tanks for 4 weeks. Analysis of levels of heavy metals Cd that accumulates in the gonad and intestine Deadema setosum using Atomic Absorbsion Spectrofotometer (AAS). The observations shows responses of switching behavior and resting Deadema setosum that fluctuats during 4 weeks of observation. In addition, behavioral end point’s observations about the losing of spines is not observed during these 4 weeks. The content levels of Cd which accumulates in the intestine and the gonads increase from the first tank (lowest value) to the fourth tank (the highest), the result show that tanks 1 <2 <3 <4. The results of these observations indicate that the behavior of moving and resting Deadema setosum influenced by heavy metal concentrations of Cd that accumulates in the body of Deadema setosumwhich occurs through a process of absorption.

Abstract

Perception could potentially groups the farmers. It is interpreted as a communication process whereas the information transferred is influenced by time. The purpose of the research is to make the forest management more efficiently by finding out the farmer’s perception level and its distribution in Ciamis Regency on the management and the function of privately owned forest. Research was conducted between April to July 2010 at four villages i.e. Ciomas, Neglasari, Kertaharja, Kalijaya in the four districts that are Panjalu, Pamarican, Banjarsari, and Cimerak respectively, which represent the landscape of Ciamis regency. Stratified random sampling was fitted to define the samples and interview using questionnaires involved 20 respondents each village. The result showed that the farmer’s perception on management and function of the forests was very positive, and tends to form the homogenous type. Therefore, the privately owned forest management in the future is getting better and the government should respond it by actively socialize programs to the farmers, involve them in the program building, and advocate the farmers side by side to make the policy generated fit with farmers characters and rationally implemented.

Abstract

Vanda tricolor Lindl. var. suavis is an Indonesian wild orchid which is now extremely rare in nature due to its habitat destruction. Development of an appropriate method for propagation of this species through in vitro culture could be nessecary for conservation purposes. High phenolic content of plant tissue is a serious problem for V. tricolor research in the laboratory, which inhibits germination and growth of the embryo. To overcome this problem, seeds were sown in a medium with the addition of tomato extract as an antioxidant. The aim of this research is to find the most suitable concentration of tomato extract for germination and growth of the embryo of V. tricolor form Bali and Merapi in order to obtained healthy seedlings for conservation purposes. Orchid pods (7 months after polination) of V. tricolor Bali and Merapi were used as plant material. The treatment consisted of 5 concentrations of tomato extract which is 0, 50 100, 150, 200, 250 g L-1. Observation was done by counting the number of protocorms for each stage of growth at 4 weeks after seed sowing. The study concluded that V. tricolor Bali is more responsive to the tomato extract compared with Merapi. Concentration of 150 gL-1 tomato extract gave the highest percentage of protocorms for Bali form, whereas Merapi form did not give significant differences either with or without tomato extract added in the culture medium.

Abstract

The utilization of industrial wastewater into a versatile material that has been the focus of research for economics reasons, environmental and technical. One of the proposed industrial wastewater for a new useful material is wastewater from the desalination process which is also known as brine water. The magnesium content in brine water is able to used as a source of magnesium for the synthesis of Mg/Al hydrotalcite-like compound (Mg/Al HTlc). Mg/Al HTlc are widely investigated for their potential applications in research and industrial processes as adsorbents, catalysts and /or catalyst precursors and pharmaceutical industry excipients. As adsorbents, Mg/Al HTlc are receiving greater interests in the environmental community due to their high adsorption capacity. However, before using natural brine water, has conducted a preliminary study the synthesis of Mg/Al HTlc by using artificial brine water as a model of desalination wastewater. The objective of this research is to synthesis of Mg/Al HTlc from artificial brine water and its ability tested as a methyl orange (MO) adsorbents. The research initiated with the synthesis of Mg/Al HTlc from artificial brine water. Characterization of the Mg/Al HTlc synthesized was confirmed through X-ray Diffraction and FT-IR Spectroscopy. The determination of optimum acidity, adsorption rate, and energy and capacity adsorption were studied. The result showed that pH 3 was the optimum acidity for the adsorption of MO on Mg/Al HTlc. MO was adsorbed at first order adsorption rate of 7.30 × 10-4 s-1 on the Mg/Al HTlc, the adsorption capacity and adsorption energy were 4.36 × 10-5 mol g-1 and 27.54 kJ mol-1, respectively. From the preparatory process and the synthesis of Mg/Al HTlc by using artificial brine water to provide the information that the byproduct of desalination processes (brine water) which are believed to be used for the synthesis of Mg / Al HTlc.

Abstract

The study is aimed at describing and analyzing the impact of regional extension on the economical aspect of Papua Province based on the indicators of public welfare such as per capita income, poverty, and interregional gap. By separating two time periods between before and after extension, and using average differential test, or t-test equal mean, it is estimated that regional extension policy significantly does not bring the per capita income to higher rate than before extension. In other word, statistically, there is no difference between per capita income between before and after extension. It is said that regional extension does not influence the per capita income. The strong significant indication shows that regional extension affects the decreased rate of urban poverty. It is, however, failed to reduce the rural poverty. In general, regional extension has significant effect on the reduction of poverty in Papua Province. Finally, regional extension policy is not statistically stronger, or less significant, to influence the interregional development gap in Papua Province. Based on the statistic result, it is generalized that regional extension policy in Papua Province has significant effect on the poverty reduction in Papua Province.
