Abstract

Background: Anxiety disorders severely degrade the quality of life (QOL), necessitating alternative interventions like community peer support to buffer intrapersonal stressors. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the collective influence of sociodemographic factors and community support on four QOL domains among individuals with anxiety in Indonesia. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional design was conducted utilizing convenience sampling. The sample comprised 98 active members of a non-clinical peer support community. Data were gathered via sociodemographic questionnaires and the WHOQOL-BREF instrument, then analyzed using descriptive profiling, parametric and non-parametric bivariate comparative tests, and ordinal logistic regression. Results: Despite 93.9% of respondents suffering from chronic anxiety, 64.3% maintained a "Good" or "Very Good" overall QOL. Regression revealed specific sociodemographic predictors: residing outside Java increased the odds of better physical QOL (OR=2.219); adolescents faced 88.9% lower odds for higher psychological QOL (OR=0.111); acute anxiety (<6 months) predicted better social QOL (OR=5.939); and unmarried individuals had 79.9% lower odds for better environmental QOL (OR=0.201). Conclusion: Peer support effectively preserves QOL, though specific demographic vulnerabilities persist. These findings provide an empirical mandate for community mental health nurses to implement social prescribing. Nursing interventions should be asymmetrically targeted: providing intensive screening for adolescents, prioritizing social rehabilitation for chronic sufferers, and designing alternative support systems for unmarried individuals to reinforce their flexible line of defense.
