Abstract

Drowning is a serious threat to human life; it has been widely reported that drowning cases result in the deaths of children, followed by teenagers, and then young adults, in all countries. The World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that it is important to create serious policies to address deaths caused by drowning, one of which is to raise awareness regarding the prevention and treatment of drowning victims. This community service aims to increase students' knowledge and skills regarding the prevention cycle and chain of survival for drowning victims. The service was held on May 26, 2023, at SDN 1 Telaga Biru Banjarmasin. The participants comprised 59 students from classes 5A and 5B at SDN 1 Telaga Biru. The method used for health education included talk sessions, discussions, and demonstrations. The media used PPT materials, leaflets, videos, and teaching aids (CPR mannequins). The activity began with providing health education through talk sessions and videos about the concept of drowning, followed by a demonstration of drowning treatment techniques. The activity was evaluated through questionnaires administered at the program's beginning and end, followed by allowing participants to demonstrate drowning management techniques. The results of the community service showed an increase in the average knowledge scores before community service (7.79) and after community service (9.11). Additionally, the observation results indicated that 93.6% of participants could demonstrate first-aid techniques for drowning. This demonstrates a significant change in knowledge and skills related to first aid for drowning victims at SDN 1 Telaga Biru. It is expected that health education will improve elementary school students' ability to prevent, recognizing and providing first aid to drowning victims according to the needs and actions that can be carried out by lay people.

Abstract

Introduction: In response to the Society 5.0 era, nursing education must adapt by integrating digital-based learning approaches that emphasize Student-Centered Learning (SCL). However, many educators continue to rely on traditional Teacher-Centered Learning (TCL) methods, where students passively receive information, often resulting in disengagement and boredom. To address this challenge, an interactive multimodality eBook was developed to support digital teaching practices and enhance student learning interest. This study aimed to analyze the effect of providing interactive multimodality eBooks using the SCL method on nursing students’ learning interest in the Society 5.0 era. Methods: This quasi-experimental study used a post-test control group design. The sample consisted of 58 fourth-semester nursing students selected through total sampling. The intervention group received the interactive multimodality eBook integrated with SCL, while the control group followed conventional learning methods. Student learning interest was measured using a validated questionnaire. Data were analyzed using an independent sample t-test with a significance level of 0.05.Results: There was a significant difference in learning interest between the two groups. The intervention group had a mean score of 19.66, classified as high, while the control group had a mean score of 13.77, classified as moderate. The p-value was 0.001 (p < 0.05), and the 95% confidence interval ranged from 3.513 to 6.261. These results indicate a significant effect of the interactive multimodality eBook using the SCL method on increasing students’ learning interest. Conclusion: Interactive multimodality eBooks can be effectively integrated into nursing education to promote digital literacy, foster independent learning, and enhance student engagement. Their use aligns with the goals of Society 5.0 by combining technology and education to create a more adaptive and student-focused learning environment.

Abstract

Introduction: Stress is a common psychological problem faced by nurses in Indonesia during the pandemic, especially ER and ICU. This study aims to analyse the effect of diaphragmatic breathing exercises on reducing stress levels in nurses by using the NaDa Android Application. Methods: This study employed a quasi-experimental pre-test and post-test with a control group design. A total of 33 nurses in the Emergency room (17) and the Intensive Care Unit (16) were recruited by using purposive sampling. The control group was given health education and diaphragmatic breathing while the intervention group practiced diaphragmatic breathing using the NaDa Android application for 12 weeks. The data were collected by Perceived Stress Scale-10 and then analysed using a t-test. Result: The average stress level among nurses in the intervention group was 17.53 which reduced to 12,94. The average stress level among nurses in the control group was 21.06 which reduced to 19.88. There was no significant effect on the control group who practiced diaphragmatic breathing (p=0.061). In contrast with the intervention group who have a significant effect regarding stress reduction (p=0.000). The diaphragmatic breathing exercises by Nada Application had an effect on decreasing the stress levels among nurses compared to the respondents in the control group (p=0.000). Conclusion: Diaphragmatic breathing exercises can be recommended to nurses to help them cope with psychological stress and to provide relaxation responses. It also can be an alternative prevention of psychological disorders such as high stress, reducing the use of pharmacological therapy in preventing stress and anxiety.

Abstract

The Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) has been integrated into the Indonesian higher education system since 2020. While nursing study programs are not mandated to participate in MBKM activities, they are still required to meet the key performance indicators outlined by the Ministry of Education and Culture through the MBKM program. To ensure that students receive valuable learning experiences in line with outcome-based curricula, nurse educators must possess additional competencies in designing learning experiences and coordinating collaborations with various stakeholders. This will equip nursing graduates to meet the demands of the modern era and compete globally, while also addressing the needs of society. Currently, the required competencies for nurse educators and the specific roles and responsibilities necessary to fulfill the MBKM policy have not been clearly defined. This article aims to elucidate the core competencies of nursing lecturers and the implementation of the expected roles and responsibilities essential for the successful execution of the MBKM program.
