Abstract

This study aimed to test feasibiity of digital comic Let’s Learn about virus as learning media in increase comprehension 10th grade of Senior High School students about virus. The study design is Research and Development (R&D). Small scale and wide scale test and trials held at SMA Negeri 11 Semarang on class X MIPA 6 in odd semester of 2016/2017 academic year. Samples taken in random sampling and design research with One Group Pretest and Posttest Design. The results of the validation indicates that the digital comics very decent used in learning with a percentage of the media expert 92%, material expert 89%, and biology teacher 96%. Small scale trial results stated that 92% of students agreed the learning virus’ material using digital comic’s media. The effectiveness of digital comics seen from wide scale trial results. The results obtained from wide scale trial is the average value of N-Gain in the amount 0.68 category medium and thoroughly classical students achieve 88.9% with the results of the assessment of attitudes and skills the average is very good. Teachers and students give positive response toward the use of digital comics.

Abstract

Interest determines the yield. Higher learning interests can improve learning outcomes. This study aims to analyze the interest of students in participate the guidance of learning and its implications on the results of biology learning in SMAN 1 Semarang. The methodology research uses mixmethod with sequential exploration strategy. The research was conducted in the field using four methods, namely observation, interview, documentation, and questionnaire. Data were obtained in the form of description of student interest and student interest score. Furthermore, compared with the final exam results of students. Data were analyzed by correlation, regression and t-test which then explained. The results showed that 70% of students interested to participate the guidance of learning and based on linear regression analysis there is a contribution of student interest on the results of biological studies with r2 = 0.87 (α = 0.003). Pearson product moment correlation analysis obtained coefficient value 0.295 with significance 0.003 indicates that there is a positive relationship between interest with biology learning result. Based on the independent test ttest shows tvalue = 5.12 ≥ ttable = 2.32 (α = 0.00; n = 100). Based on the results of research and discussion can be concluded that some students are interested in participate the guidance of biology learning. Students' interest in learning outcomes has a positive relationship with low criteria and influences biological learning outcomes. There are differences in biology learning outcomes of students who participate the guidance of learning and not participate in tutoring.

Abstract

Education in Malaysia has been reformed to face the 21st century of education, especially in terms of the student assessment. This case study aimed to describe the implementation of school assessment at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) Slim River according to the principles of authentic assessment, i.e. the integration of teaching and learning, a variation of methods and criteria used, real-world problems posed, and holistic approaches. This study used a qualitative descriptive study methods to portray the four principles of authentic assessment presented in the narrative texts. The data was collected by observation sheets, interviews, and the documentation study, and they were validated by using three stages of qualitative data analysis. The findings showed that to some degrees the four principles of authentic assessment were already implemented in school assessment. Teachers had integrated assessment in their teaching and learning by sharing the learning target and questioning. The assessment had used the variation of methods and criteria such as written test, presentation and discussion, experiment, and project. The assessment was connected to the real-world problem by giving real-world problem and real-world task. The holistic principle had been implemented by using PEKA rubric.

Abstract

This Study aimed to determine the effect of guided inquiry-based learning model with Natural Environment Exploration (JAS) approach on the topic of sensory system on student’s Sciencetific Process Skills (SPS) as well as determining the increase of students’ SPS. The type of this study was quasi-experimental with non-equivalent control group design. Subjects in this study were students from grade XI of class MIA 4 as the control and XI MIA 5 as the treatment group. The independent variable was the guided inquiry-based learning model with JAS approach on the topic of sensory system, while the dependent variable was students’ SPS. Students’ SPS was measured by pre-test and post-test consist of 30 questions. The result of data analysis showed that the guided inquiry-based learning model with JAS approach had a significant effect on students’ SPS, with the value of determination coefficient at 0.374. Students’ SPS increased after the treatment with the average N-gain of treatment group at 0.27. The result of the study concludes that the implementation of guided inquiry-based learning model by JAS approach on the topic of sensory system affects and increases the students’ SPS, especially in the aspect of interpreting data, communicating, designing experiment, formulating hypotheses and classifying

Abstract

This Study aims to analyze the validity and effectiveness of “inokreat” LKS based on inquiry on the impact of smoking on health. This research is designed as Research and Development (R & D) research consisting of 10 stages: potential and problem stage through questionnaire and interview method, data collection phase, LKS product design, LKS design validation by expert to test the validity of LKS, revision phase I, small scale in 10 random class VIII students, second phase revision, large-scale trial in one class VIII with 29 students to analyze the effectiveness of LKS on learning, product revision, and finished product. Expert judgment result on LKS "inokreat" based on inquiry on the impact of cigarette on health shows that LKS of valid development result is used in learning with percentage of material feasibility aspect 85% and media feasibility aspect 97,2% with criteria very feasible. The results of large-scale trials show that LKS "inokreat" is effective against students' learning outcomes with an average NGain score of 0.61 indicating an increase in learning outcomes from pretest to posttest in moderate categories. The average completeness of the classical students reached 89.65%. The average percentage of practicum skills was 88.5% and the presentation skills were 87.85% with very good category and the average of student discussion activity was 75.7% with the active category and the students' responses were 74.8% with the agreed category.

Abstract

Science and technology has been included in all aspects of life not as well as education. Rapid changes of science and technology encourages the development and the use of effective teaching model. Thailand, one of the big countries in Southeast Asia, has developed a new curriculum and education system in 2008. This new curriculum and educational system impact on teaching models used. The purpose of this study was to describe the Biology teaching model applied in Rattaphumwittaya School Thailand. This study was a case study by qualitative research. Data were collected by observation, interviews, and documentation. Data were organized in five elements of the teaching model includes syntax, the social system, the principle of reaction, support systems, and the effect of teaching. It was found that the teaching models used includes direct instruction, group investigation, and inquiry training. The selected models for each level Mattayom depend on the student's character. Also, the higher grade , the less teacher dominance during learning.

Abstract

The development of science curriculum aims to achieve the dimensions of knowledge competence, scientific work, and scientific attitude as daily behavior in interacting with society, environmental and technological utilization. Teaching materials are used in the form of book packages and not yet available learning modules. This study aims to determine the feasibility and effectiveness of SETS biological module vision of environmental change and recycling of waste as teaching materials. This research is a research and development with a quasi-experimental design. The design of this study used a pretest-posttest control group design pattern. The population in this study were all students of class X MIA SMA N 2 Purbalingga, with class X MIA 3 sample as experiment class, and class X MIA 2 as control class. The product was developed in the form of a Biology learning module with SETS vision of recycled materials, waste and environmental waste recycling. The prerequisite test includes the normality test of pretest learning results, with α = 0.05 with the initial conditions of the control class and the experiments not significantly differing. The result of posttest obtained then analyzed by t-test. The result of t-test analysis obtained t arithmetic price> t table price 10,58> 1,67, it can be stated that there is a significant difference between the result of control study and student experiment class. Based on the result of the research, it is concluded that 1) Biology Module SETS is suitable to be used as teaching materials, 2) the use of SETS biology module to study environmental change, waste and waste recycling effectively improve student learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study attempted to describe the impact of Adiwiyata on the environmental caring character of the citizen of State Senior High School 14 of Semarang. This research belonged to descriptivequalitative research. The respondents of the study were determined purposively with the criteria of the school citizen who were active in Adiwiyata activities. The data sources included principals, teachers, students and employees. The methods of data collection used interview, observation and documentation. The results showed that State Senior High School 14 of Semarang implemented environmental education (Indonesian: Pendidikan Lingkungan Hidup) (PLH) learning and environmental activities. The PLH learning process was conducted by discussion methods, practicum, direct observation, demonstration, and role play. The learning materials were developed by raising environmental issues. The assessment of learning outcomes included vegetable growing project, making recycled handicrafts, work method and presentation. The environmental activities conducted by students included daily cleaning, clean Friday, environmental extracurricular, environmental action. 3R waste management (reduce, reuse and recycle), electricity and water savings. This study concluded that Adiwiyata impacted on the environmental caring character building of the State Senior High School 14 of Semarang citizen including: the habituation of keeping the classroom and school environment cleanlines, saving electricity and water, managing the school waste and preserving the biodiversity.

Abstract

Biology learning process in SMA N 1 Slawi generally still oriented to the cognitive learning, yet oriented to develop students' scientific literacy skills in context aspects, competence, knowledge, and attitudes of science. This research aimed to describe the effect of the of Problem-Based Learning accompanying Analyze Case Study to develop scientific literacy of students of grade X SMA N 1 Slawi. The research was a quasy experimental research used non-equivalent control group design. Sampling techniques was purposive sampling method, which the grade of X MIA 3 as the control class and X MIA 6 as an experimental class. This data research is data scientific literacy test results, student activities, student respons, teacher feedback, and adherence to learning. scientific literacy test data were analyzed using t-test and test of N-gain. The results showed that learning to use the PBL to Analyze Case Study on experimental class significant to the control class scientific literacy test results analysis, t test showed tcount 4.28 > ttable 1.996 with significance level of 0.05 so it can be seen the difference in the increase the results of the second study classes. Test N-gain in the low category to high, the experimental class has a percentage of 94.12%, 65.71% while the control class. The t-test average score of N-gain with tcount5 > ttable 1.996. Analysis of experimental class student activity is higher than in the control class with the percentage of 84% for the experimental group and 71% of pupils to grade control included in the criteria fairly active and active learning activities. Based on the results of this study concluded that the application of the model of Problem Based Learning to Analyze Case Study positive effect on students' scientific literacy skills.

Abstract

This research aims to optimize the learning activities and test the effectiveness of the use of flash media microscope in biology lab. Research using a design research and development that includes four stages, namely field observations, the implementation of media development, media validation, and implementation of the pilot (small scale and large scale). Small-scale trials were conducted at SMAN 5 Magelang class XI MIA-1 and large-scale trials were conducted at SMAN 5 Magelang XI MIA-1 and XI MIA-3 classes. Validation results from media experts and microscopes experts were 82% and 69%, respectively, with good criteria. The results of the small-scale trials showed a positive response to the flash media using the microscope, while the large scale trials showed results of 82% of students with criteria skilled in using a microscope. The result of questionnaire of student responses shows very good criteria to flash media learning of microscope usage and good on all aspect asked, while teacher give very good response. Based on the results of research ,it is concluded that the use of microscope flash media developed feasible in optimizing the activities of Biology lab works.
