Abstract

This study aims to make the ubudiyah muamalah character education model effective. The ubudiyah muamalah character education is in accordance with the development in the madrasah. This research uses the research and development (R & D) approach which begins with finding the problem of character education, then proceeding to explore the results of research and development that are relevant to the problems being studied and then analyze them. The data source of this study consisted of ten papers that were presented in the seminar and five research papers. The data were analyzed using qualitative descriptive models. The results of the analysis show that the character education model for Islamic students consists of, among others, familiarity, educator modeling, scheduling, discipline, and continuous mentoring in competency planning, textbooks, learning manuals, and assessment instruments. The implementation of the ubudiyah muamalah character education model includes the role of educators, education staff, parents of students, the environment of students who are important factors. The evaluation system is good, objective, measurable, and authentic. The assessment from external institutions becomes a decisive part. This ubudiyah muamalah character education model will be better if it involves the role of religious leaders. Based on the results of the assessment carried out during one year of study it can be concluded that the development of the management model of the ubudiyah muamalah-based character education in Darul Falah Pati Aliyah madrasas can be carried out with good results.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to assess the current status of school based instructional supervision practices in secondary school of Dandi Woreda. Three basic questions were formulated, which emphasized to assess current status of school based instructional supervision practices in secondary school, contributions of instructional supervision and problems and issues, current status of school based instructional supervision in secondary schools of Dandi Woreda. To conduct the study, descriptive survey design was employed. The sampling technique employed was simple random sampling for sample secondary school of teachers and availability sampling technique for school based supervisors, principals, vice principals and secondary school supervisors. To this end, 97 teachers 30 school -based supervisors 5 principals, 4 vice principals and 2 secondary school supervisors. Questionnaire was the main data gathering instrument for this study. Thus, 94 teachers and 30 school- based supervisors filled the questionnaires. An interview was also conducted to enrich the quantitative data. As a result, principals, vice principals and secondary school supervisors were interviewed. Quantitative data collected through questionnaire was analyzed by using percentage, frequency and chi-square test by using SPSS v.20.o. The data gathered through interview was discussed in line with questionnaire. The results of the study reveal that the school based instructional supervisory practice were ineffective. School based supervisors were involved in the difficult task of supervision without having prior trainings. School supervisors were also inefficient in promoting professional competence of teachers. Furthermore, the study revealed that: lack of trained supervisory personnel, lack of support like manuals, lack of training and experience sharing session and inadequate communication skill of supervisors hinder proper implementation of school based supervision. Finally, to minimize the problems of school-based supervision in secondary schools, it is recommended to give relevant in-service trainings for supervisors to upgrade their supervisory skills and avail necessary resources like supervision manuals, guidelines etc. Moreover, suggestions were forwarded to solve the factors that hinder proper implementation of supervisory practices.

Abstract

The growth of video gaming popularity has traversed the entertaining area and is finding its place in the educational arena as well. The educational potentials of video games have prompted literacy practitioners and researchers to embark on using video games for the purpose of increasing the quality and productivity of literacy education. The current theoretical article reviews the latest theories and research findings related to the general use of video games in education with an eye towards the literacy instruction in particular. The material selected for this systematic review consisted of both theoretical and empirical articles about the use of video games in learning and teaching of literacy in the educational contexts. Even though there is tangible evidence as to the positive effects of digital games on students` learning, there is still a dearth of converging evidence as to the practical benefits of inclusion of video games in literacy education. The available evidence are mostly the results of correlational studies, and we still need a connected research stream in pursuit of finding the predictive potentials of the video gaming in literacy instruction.

Abstract

A resistivity survey was carried out to study the level of groundwater pollution in the dumpsite at Awka Urban Anambra State. Depth, thickness, resistivity, and sediment at which contamination of groundwater occurred were also established. From the analysis, the dump site has four layers, contaminated topsoil, subsoil, rock fragment, and bedrock while the control side has four layers also which are, topsoil, subsoil, rock fragment, and bedrock. The effect of leachates can be seen at the dump site, the first layer (contaminated topsoil) with low resistivity values and this effect tends to affect some distance at the second layer (subsoil). The control site has no effect of leachate which shows high resistivity values at its first and second layer compare to that of the dump site. The iso-resistivity maps also reveal the variation between the dump site and control site, at the 5 m and 10 m plot of the iso-resistivity maps, the dump site (profile A to D), shows low resistivity values compare to the control site (profile E and F). At the 12 m depth, the resistivity values at the dump site and control site tend to be at a similar range, which explains that the effect of leachate disappears at 12 m depth. At 20 m depth, the resistivity values at the control site (Western side of the map) is lower than that of the dump site which could explain the effect of water-bearing materials or weathering of the rocks at that depth.

Abstract

Research on the speech of mild mentally retarded children from the syntactic and pragmatic perspective has not been widely conducted. Research on the speech of mild mentally retarded children was commonly conducted from the phonological perspective. This has encouraged this researcher to conduct this study. Despite experiencing various limitations, mild mentally retarded children are still categorized as children who can be educated to become semi-skilled workers. To become semi-skilled workers, they need good and polite language skills. The purpose of this study is, syntactically, to find out sentences structures, sentences types, and average length of speech and, pragmatically, to find out speech types and politeness that can be maximized in the utterances of the mild mentally retarded children. This is a qualitative study employing a cross-section method. The research subjects were 13 mild mentally retarded children. The research data were in the form of fragments of stories and conversations drawn through recording techniques, noting, observing proficient free involvement, and observing the involvement in skill for approximately three months. The data were analyzed using the pragmatic and syntactic techniques. The findings of this study: Syntactically, this study found speech using sentence structures of S-P, S-P-A, A-S-P-A, A-S-P, A-S-A-P, S-A-P, A-S-P-Ag; S-P-Ag; the sentence types found are simple sentences; and the MLU of 6.94. Pragmatically, there are types of (1) constative, (2) locutionary, (3) representative, directive, expressive, (4) directive, and (5) literal speeches; the observance of the tact maxim, agrement maxim, and generosity maxim and the violation of the tact maxim, the approbation maxim, the modesty maxim, and the sympathy maxim.. To minimize politeness violation, it is recommended that further research be conducted in larger amount of subjects in a longer period of time.

Abstract

This study aims to produce a patient-safety-based Interprofessional Collaboration (IPC) education model to improve the competence of the Specialist-1 of Child Health Medical Education Program (PPDS I) doctors of Child Health Medical Science in Dr. Kariadi Central Hospital, Medical School, Diponegoro University and the students in the nursing profession program. This study was designed using the Research and Development approach. The data of this study were analyzed using qualitative descriptive techniques. The steps of developing the model in this study include (1) preliminary analysis; (2) findings of factual models; (3) development of conceptual models; (4) development of a hypothetical model; (5) final model development. The results of the study show that PPDS I of Child Health at Dr. Kariadi Central Hospital has not implemented the IPC based on safety. The model of safety-based IPC is based on four main indicators, namely (1) Interprofessional Collaborative Competence; (2) Competency of Pediatricians & Nurses; (3) Interprofessional Learning Readiness Scale; (4) Scale of Interprofessional Team Performance. The results of the trials of the interprofessional collaboration education model developed have been able to increase the competence of PPDS I doctors 45.61% and 20.68% in students of the nursing profession program (nurses). The increaseof the competence and professionalism of PPDS I doctors and nurses is also based on moral principles and ethical codes that are actualized as noble attitudes and sincerity. It is suggested that the implementation of the developed patient-safety-based interprofessional collaboration education model needs to be supported by policies or regulations by related parties in order to improve the effectiveness of the specialist medical education programs and nursing professional education programs (Ners).
