Abstract

Oil palm empty fruit bunches (OPEFB) is one of the solid wastes from the processing of palm oil into crude palm oil. Generally, OPEFB is used as mulch on oil palm plantations. This study aims to compare the soil biological properties on land with the application of OPEFB and land without the application of OPEFB in a depth of 0-20 cm and 20-40 cm. Soil sampling was carried out at Adolina, PT Perkebunan Nusantara IV, in block 06 A (land with the application of OPEFB) and block 06 B (land without the application of OPEFB). The observation parameters are organic matter content, total microbes, and soil respiration. Then, the data analysis results are processed with SPSS version 20. The test was using a t-test. The research results of oil palm empty fruit bunches application with a dose of 35 tons ha-1 which were applied evenly without layering on the oil palm plantations aged 13 years can increased soil organic matter content at a depth of 0-20 cm but does not increase total microbes and soil respiration both at a depth of 0-20 cm and at a depth of 20-40 cm compared with total microbes and soil respiration on land without the application of OPEFB.

Abstract

The aim of the research was to determine the shelf life of white oyster mushroom flour in polyethylene plastic packaging with the Arrhenius method. The study was arranged descriptively with two replications. White oyster mushroom flour was stored at three storage temperature conditions, i.e. 30oC, 40oC and 50o C in polyethylene plastic packaging with a thickness of 0.03 mm and stored for one month (28 days). Observations were made on water content, levels of free fatty acids, protein content, flavour and color of white oyster mushroom flour every once a week i.e. on days 0, 7, 14, 21 and 28. The data obtained were used to determine the shelf life of white oyster mushroom flour using acceleration (accelerated storage) method with Arrhenius equation model using Microsoft Excel software. The results showed that the shelf life of white oyster mushroom flour in polyethylene plastic packaging thickness of 0.03 mm using the Arrhenius method was set at a temperature of 30o C based on the parameters of the zero reaction protein content, which was 130.67 days (4.3 months). White oyster mushroom flour in polyethylene plastic packaging thickness of 0.03 mm during storage temperature of 30o C, 40o C, and 50o C tends to decrease protein content, color and aroma, but experience an increase in free fatty acid levels. White oyster mushroom flour in polyethylene plastic packaging at 30o C tends to increase in water content during storage, and decreased water content at 40o C and 50o C.

Abstract

Food, especially rice, is a basic human ingredient whose needs increase following thepopulation growth. On the other hand the availability of rice has decreased following theland conversion rate. To overcome land conversion and to increase national rice production, the government made policy of paddy expansion / printing. In 2016 this activity isimplemented in 27 provinces and has been printed new fields of 129,096 ha. One of theprovinces that get the rice field printing program is West Kalimantan Province. From theresults of the evaluation, the location of the new paddy fields is in accordance with theobjectives of the program, namely: rice fields have been formed, farmers who work aroundthe location of land and water sources for cultivation is also available. From the paddy fieldexperience of 2016, the improvements required for next year's paddy fields include: (i) preferably planning (SI & D) in advance a year is made than the implementation and (ii) additionalpaddy rice costs, as the cost of expensive tool mobilization and social costs and (iii) a bindingrule in the form of sanctions for the farmer who converted the new fields. As for improvingthe required crop index: water management; subsidizing inputs (seeds, fertilizers, lime, farming tools and cultivation training.

Abstract

Beetroots are a type of tubers with a distinctive purplish red color and are beneficial for health with a high amount of betasianin as an antioxidant, as well as its use in preventing infection. But the beetroot is less liked by the public because of the strong enough earthy taste, so it is necessary to do new innovations for the product to be accepted by the community, one of which is the functional beet syrup drink. To create a preferred flavor, the addition of other food additives and sweetener stevia which has a sweetness level of 200-300 times that of sugar and includes non-calorie sweeteners is done. This study aims to analyze the best concentration of stevia extract on the sweetness level and beetroot characteristics and determine the level of panelists' preference for beetroot syrup (Beta vulgaris L.) with organoleptic tests. This research was conducted with a randomized block design (RBD), the data were analyzed by variance (ANOVA), if the data obtained were significantly different, the DMRT would be further tested at 5% level. The results showed that the highest betasianin was in the SBS15 treatment (31.74 mg / l), the highest total dissolved solids was in the SBS treatment (3.25ºBrix), the highest pH was in the SBS15 treatment (4.22), the highest vitamin C was in the SBS15 treatment (11.66 mg ascorbic acid / 10 ml). Organoleptic results showed that beet syrup with the addition of stevia extract of 6% was the most preferred sample by panelists.
