Abstract

Athletic performance in competitive sports is strongly influenced by explosive abilities such as initial speed, lower-limb power, and jumping ability. Although plyometric training has been widely used to improve these performance components, most previous studies have not specifically examined the effects of high-intensity plyometric training on these three performance variables simultaneously in adult male athletes. This gap in the literature represents the novelty of the present study. This study aimed to analyze the effects of high-intensity plyometric training on initial speed, lower-limb power, and jump distance in male athletes. The study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach. The research sample consisted of 15 male athletes from the athletics unit of Universitas Pattimura who participated in a high-intensity plyometric training program for 8 weeks with a frequency of three sessions per week. The research variables included initial speed measured through a 35-meter sprint test, lower-limb power measured using the Sargent test, and jump distance measured using the standing long jump test. The data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test and one-way ANOVA with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed significant improvements in all variables after the intervention, including a 6.33% decrease in sprint time, a 25.07% increase in lower-limb power, and a 25.03% increase in jump distance, with very large effect sizes across all variables. These findings indicate that high-intensity plyometric training is effective in improving the explosive performance of male athletes. This study concludes that a high-intensity plyometric training program can serve as an effective training strategy to enhance athletes’ explosive physical abilities. Future research is recommended to employ experimental designs with control groups, larger sample sizes, and further investigation into the physiological mechanisms of neuromuscular adaptation in greater depth.

Abstract

Physical education plays an important role in developing students’ motor competence; however, sprint learning at SMP Negeri 35 Central Maluku still faces obstacles in the form of low learning outcomes and minimal active student involvement in the learning process. This study aims to describe and analyze the improvement of sprint learning outcomes among grade VII students through the implementation of the Teams Games Tournament (TGT) learning model. This research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) approach using the Kemmis and McTaggart spiral design, which consists of four stages, namely planning, acting, observing, and reflecting, conducted across two cycles. The research subjects comprised 18 students, consisting of 10 male students and 8 female students. Data were collected through performance tests, structured observation, written tests, and documentation, then analyzed using quantitative descriptive techniques. The results showed a significant improvement in learning mastery, increasing from 6% in the pre-action stage to 50% in cycle I, and reaching 100% in cycle II. The class average score also rose from 64 in the pre-action stage to 73 in cycle I and 78 in cycle II. Therefore, it can be concluded that implementing the cooperative Teams Games Tournament (TGT) learning model effectively improves sprint learning outcomes. ABSTRAK Pendidikan jasmani memegang peran penting dalam pengembangan kompetensi gerak peserta didik, namun pembelajaran lari sprint di SMP Negeri 35 Maluku Tengah masih menghadapi kendala berupa rendahnya hasil belajar serta minimnya keterlibatan aktif siswa dalam proses pembelajaran. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis peningkatan hasil belajar sprint siswa kelas VII melalui penerapan model pembelajaran Teams Games Tournament (TGT). Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK) dengan desain spiral Kemmis dan McTaggart yang terdiri atas empat tahap, yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi, yang dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus. Subjek penelitian berjumlah 18 siswa yang terdiri atas 10 siswa laki-laki dan 8 siswa perempuan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui tes unjuk kerja, observasi terstruktur, tes tertulis, dan dokumentasi, kemudian dianalisis secara deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya peningkatan ketuntasan belajar yang signifikan, yaitu dari 6% pada pra-tindakan menjadi 50% pada siklus I, dan mencapai 100% pada siklus II. Nilai rata-rata kelas juga meningkat dari 64 pada pra-tindakan menjadi 73 pada siklus I dan 78 pada siklus II. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe Teams Games Tournament (TGT) terbukti efektif untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar lari sprint pada siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 35 Maluku Tengah secara menyeluruh dan berkelanjutan.
