Abstract

Based on the Myrica genus, Myrica esculenta contains secondary  metabolites such as flavonoids, steroids, tannins, alkaloids, and saponins, that have the potential to act as antibacterial agents. This study aims to evaluate the antibacterial effectiveness of Myrica javanica extract against Staphylococcus aureus and Propionibacterium acnes in vitro. Extraction was performed using the maceration method with 96% ethanol, followed by antibacterial activity testing using the disk diffusion method at five extract concentrations (20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100%) with positive control (Clindamycin) and negative control  (DMSO). The results showed an increase in the maximum inhibition zone against the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and Propionibacterium acnes measuring 14,04 ± 0,50 mm and 12,3 ± 0,64 mm respectively at concentration of 100%. In conclusion, the  extract of Myrica javanica shows potential antibacterial activity against both test bacteria.

Abstract

Umbi rumput teki diketahui mengandung senyawa aktif seperti flavonoid, saponin, tanin, dan terpenoid, yang berpotensi sebagai antibakteri. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui efektivitas ekstrak cair umbi rumput teki (Cyperus rotundus Linn) dan mengevaluasi sediaan antiseptik spray berbahan aktif ekstrak cair umbi rumput teki. Penelitian dilakukan secara eksperimental dengan formula F0 yang tidak mengandung ekstrak cair umbi rumput teki, sedangkan F1 dan F2 masingmasing mengandung ekstrak cair umbi rumput teki dengan konsentrasi sebesar 10% dan 20%. Ekstrak umbi rumput teki dibuat melalui metode maserasi berulang, kemudian diformulasikan dalam bentuk spray dan diuji melalui uji fisik-kimia (organoleptik, homogenitas, pH, stabilitas) Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa formulasi antiseptik spray dengan ekstrak cair umbi rumput teki menunjukkan stabilitas yang baik, ekstrak cair umbi rumput teki berpotensi dikembangkan sebagai bahan aktif alami dalam sediaan antiseptik spray.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct phytochemical screening and standardization of guava leaf ethanol extract (Psidium guajava L.) originating from Gunung Putri, Bogor Regency, West Java. The extract was derived by means of maceration procedure utilizing 96% ethanol as the extraction medium, and phytochemical analysis confirmed the presence of flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, saponins, terpenoid/steroid compounds, as well as glycosides. Quality evaluation based on specific and non-specific parameters showed results that met the standards: drying loss of  (<10%), total ash content of (<8,4%), specific gravity of 0.99 g/mL, water content of 5.2% (<10%), and negative heavy metal contamination. These results indicate that guava leaves from the Gunung Putri area have a phytochemical profile and extract quality that are suitable for the development of standardized herbal preparation raw materials. Geographical aspects also contribute to the validity of the results and can be a reference for standardization based on plant growing areas.

Abstract

Mefenamic acid, a meclofenamate derivative, is a type of NSAID that inhibits the formation of the cyclooxygenase enzyme. This cyclooxygenase enzyme converts arachidonic acid into prostaglandins. Therefore, if this drug is given as a pain reliever to children or adolescents during their growth period, it will disrupt the longitudinal growth process of their bones. This study aims to evaluate the level of public knowledge in RT 010 RW 009, Menteng Village, Central Jakarta, regarding the use of mefenamic acid tablets as an NSAID analgesic. The method used is descriptive with a quantitative approach and involved 64 respondents selected based on inclusion criteria. The results show that the average level of public knowledge is in the sufficient category (63,20%). Respondents are predominantly in the 17–25 year age group with a vocational high school education level. Only 35.90% of respondents have received direct education from health workers. This finding emphasizes the importance of more intensive educational interventions from health institutions so that the public uses drugs appropriately and wisely.

Abstract

Wuru Ketek (Myrica javanica Reinw. ex Bl.) plant is known to contain flavonoids and tannins that have the potential as antidiabetics. This study aims to evaluate the effect of ethanol extract of wuru ketek leaves (Myrica javanica Reinw. ex Bl.) on the relative weight of the liver, kidneys, and heart of alloxan-induced diabetic male mice. A total of 30 mice were divided into six groups: normal group, negative control, positive control (glibenclamide), and three treatment groups with doses of 100, 200, and 300 mg/kgBW for 12 days orally. The organs were weighed and analyzed statistically. The results showed no significant difference in relative organ weight (p>0.05) between the treatment group and the normal group. These findings indicate that the ethanol extract of wuru ketek leaves (Myrica javanica Reinw. Ex Bl.) does not show toxic effects on target organs in the short term. Further studies are needed to assess long-term safety and other biochemical parameters.
