Abstract

Hilidundra Village in Lotu District, North Nias Regency, is one of the areas with a high level of flood vulnerability, especially during the rainy season. This condition hampers local agricultural productivity which is highly dependent on the weather. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the raised bed technique in increasing crop yields on land prone to flooding. The study was conducted using qualitative and quantitative approaches through field observations, farmer interviews, and plant growth experiments on two land systems: using raised beds and without raised beds. The results showed that the raised bed technique was able to increase drainage efficiency, reduce plant damage due to flooding, and significantly increase agricultural productivity. This technique is recommended as a relevant and applicable adaptation solution for agricultural land in tropical areas that are prone to flooding.

Abstract

Drainage is one of the important factors in agricultural cultivation, especially on land with high humidity levels or prone to waterlogging. This study aims to analyze the effect of drainage systems on the success of agricultural cultivation in wetlands. The approach used is a descriptive qualitative method with direct observation techniques in the field and in-depth interviews with local farmers. The results of the study showed that the existence of a good drainage system can increase soil aeration, prevent root rot, and support optimal plant growth. Conversely, land without an adequate drainage system shows decreased productivity and the emergence of various plant disease problems.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penerapan metode seleksi benih menggunakan larutan NaCl dalam menilai kualitas benih. Seleksi benih menggunakan larutan NaCl merupakan teknik yang umum digunakan untuk menguji daya berkecambah dan kualitas benih, dimana benih yang berkualitas baik cenderung tenggelam pada tingkat salinitas tertentu. Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode observasi langsung, dimana kegiatan ini dilakukan pada saat pratikum dasar-dasar agronomi dalam menyeleksi benih yangh berkualitas dan tidak berkualitas. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa metode seleksi benih dengan larutan NaCl efektif dalam membedakan benih yang berkualitas dan tidak berkualitas, dimana benih yang tenggelam dalam larutan NaCl menunjukkan kualitas yang lebih baik. Metode ini sederhana, murah, dan dapat dilakukan di lapangan tanpa memerlukan peralatan khusus. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa penerapan metode seleksi benih menggunakan larutan NaCl dapat dijadikan alat yang bermanfaat untuk menilai kualitas benih secara cepat dan efektif dalam mendukung keberhasilan budidaya tanaman dengan menggunakan konsentrasi NaCl yang tepat.
