Abstract

The selection of nutritious foods for toddlers is one of the key factors in stunting prevention and is strongly influenced by mothers' ability to manage household resources. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between Sharia financial literacy and mothers' behavior in selecting nutritious foods, as well as to identify the factors that most strongly influence such behavior. This study employed an analytic quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach involving 108 mothers with toddlers in Gresik Regency. The sample was selected using purposive sampling, and data were collected through a Google Form-based questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted through univariate, bivariable, and multivariable analyses using Spearman's rank test and logistic regression. The results showed that the majority of respondents had moderate Sharia financial literacy (59.3%) and fair nutritious food selection behavior (50.9%). There was a significant relationship between Sharia financial literacy and nutritious food selection behavior (p < 0.05). In the multivariable analysis, access to nutritious food and Sharia financial literacy were shown to have significant effects, with access to nutritious food emerging as the most dominant factor. This study indicates that strengthening Sharia financial literacy and improving access to nutritious food are important in supporting mothers' behavior in selecting nutritious foods for toddlers.

Abstract

Stunting remains a public health problem influenced by poor appetite in children. Prevention efforts can be implemented through parental empowerment using skill-based health education, such as acupressure. This community service program aimed to improve parents’ knowledge and skills in performing acupressure at ST 36 (Zusanli) and SP 6 (Sanyinjiao) points. The methods included socialization, pretest, health education, practical training, and posttest involving 40 parents of toddlers in Blimbingsari Village. The results showed an improvement in both knowledge and skills. The Wilcoxon test yielded a p-value of 0.000 (<0.05), indicating a significant difference between the pre- and post-intervention scores. Health education with a hands-on approach was effective in enhancing parents’ abilities. Acupressure can serve as a simple and practical intervention for family-based stunting prevention

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Appetite problems in preschool children can negatively affect nutritional intake and growth and remain a public health concern. Conventional interventions are often insufficient, highlighting the need for alternative approaches. Acupressure is considered a safe, practical, and potentially effective method to improve appetite. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of acupressure at ST36 (Zusanli) and SP6 (Sanyinjiao) on appetite in preschool children. Methods: This quasi-experimental study with a pretest–posttest control group design involved 40 preschool children. The intervention group received daily acupressure for two weeks, while the control group received education. Appetite was measured using the Early Child Appetite and Satiety Questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test and Mann–Whitney U test with a significance level of α ≤ 0.05. Results: Both groups showed significant improvements (p < 0.001), with greater improvement observed in the intervention group. The between-group analysis also showed a significant difference (p = 0.037), indicating that acupressure had a stronger effect compared to education alone. Conclusion: Acupressure at ST36 and SP6 is effective in improving appetite in preschool children and can be considered a feasible non-pharmacological intervention.

Abstract

Childhood nutrition have a crucial role in building a healthy and high-quality generation. One effective approach to improving the nutritional status of children under five is through the provision of nutritious locally-based supplementary food (PMT). This study aims to analyze the impact of the demonstration method on the skills of community health cadres mothers in preparing locally-based PMT. The study employs a pre-experimental design with a pre-posttest approach, involving 20 community health cadres mothers as respondents. The training was conducted in October 2025, focusing on processing moringa leaves into nutritious PMT. The training began with presentation followed by a demonstration of processing local ingredients so that the cadres could gain skills to share with the community. Skill assessments were carried out before and after the training using the Wilcoxon statistical test. The results indicate that most respondents experienced an improvement in skills, with 12 respondents (60%) showing significant skill enhancement after the intervention. The statistical test, with a p-value of 0.000, shows that the demonstration method has a significant effect on improving the skills of community health cadres mothers in preparing locally-based PMT. The study concludes that the demonstration method is effective in enhancing the practical skills of community health care mothers in preparing nutritious PMT for children under five, and it can be implemented in community-based nutritional empowerment programs using local resources.
