Abstract

Inappropriate Arabic teaching methods often hinder students’ ability to comprehend kitab kuning (classical Islamic texts). In the Wustho 2 Class at Madrasah Diniyah Al-Manshur Popongan Klaten, students face difficulties in independently understanding religious texts despite possessing basic grammatical knowledge. This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Ibtidai method, along with its supporting and inhibiting factors, in enhancing maharah qira’ah fiqh (reading skills in jurisprudence). The novelty of this research lies in its integrative analysis using E. Mulyasa’s educational taxonomy and Mulyadi’s implementation framework. This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews and further validated via non-participant observation and documentary analysis, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results indicate that the Ibtidai method effectively facilitates students’ literacy transition by shifting the focus of difficulty from technical-mechanical aspects toward analytical-conceptual skills. The primary constraints identified are the heavy dominance of rote learning and low self-regulated learning among students. Ketidaktepatan metode pembelajaran bahasa Arab sering kali menghambat kemampuan literasi kitab kuning santri.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the appropriate character foundations for implementation at the elementary school level. Furthermore, it explores how the selected character foundations are implemented in educational institutions. This is crucial given that character education in Indonesia is not fully implemented. The method used was library research, where researchers reviewed various existing literature, particularly books, journal articles, and other final materials. The results of this study indicate that there are three characters foundations that every elementary school must build: integrity (honesty and responsibility), empathy, and resilience. These three characters foundations are not only crucial to implement optimally, but also appropriate for elementary schools, align with the foundations for combating corruption in Indonesia, and contain simple elements. Therefore, educational institutions, particularly elementary schools, can mobilize all educators to implement these three characters foundations. Keywords: character education, elementary school/Islamic elementary school, integrity, empathy, resilience, corruption

Abstract

This study aims to critically analyze the contribution of literacy communities in strengthening inclusive public spaces in the city of Surakarta. Departing from the low national literacy rate and the limited access to reading facilities in open spaces, this research highlights how citizen-led communities independently initiate literacy practices outside formal institutions. Using a qualitative approach with a case study method, the study explores the activities of three active literacy communities, namely Bakaran, Solo Book Party, and Sobomaos, through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and activity documentation. The findings show that these communities have successfully reclaimed public spaces such as city parks, campus courtyards, angkringan stalls, and cafés into collective learning spaces that are non-hierarchical, inclusive, and reflective. Literacy in this context is no longer understood merely as a technical ability, but as a social, political, and spatial practice that strengthens learning culture, civic participation, and community empowerment. Despite facing structural challenges such as limited policy and infrastructural support, the communities demonstrate resilience and innovation. As an applied contribution, this research recommends the development of a “Taman Cerdas” as a public literacy ecosystem that integrates recreational, technological, and educational functions within an environmentally friendly open space accessible to all citizens. These findings show that community-driven literacy can serve as a model for urban development rooted in citizen participation and oriented toward spatial justice.
