Abstract

This study aims to improve student learning outcomes in Function material through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model in class XI-C MAN 1 Probolinggo. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects of the study were 24 students of class XI-C MAN 1 Probolinggo. Data were collected through observation of student activities and learning outcome tests at the end of each cycle. The results of the study showed an increase in student learning outcomes after the application of the problem based learning (PBL) model. The average value of learning outcomes increased from 66 in the pre-cycle to 71.5 in cycle I, and then increased again to 94.83 in cycle II. With learning completeness from 37.5% to 62.5%, and increased again to 100%. In addition, student activity and involvement in the learning process also showed a significant increase. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the application of the Problem Based Learning model is effective in improving student learning outcomes in Function material in class XI-C MAN 1 Probolinggo. This model can be an alternative innovative learning strategy to create an active, meaningful, and student-centered learning process.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kesulitan siswa kelas IX E SMPN 1 Kotaanyar dalam menyelesaikan soal statistika, khususnya pada materi mean, median, dan modus data berkelompok. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan subjek sebanyak 25 siswa. Instrumen penelitian yang digunakan berupa tes uraian statistika, pedoman wawancara, serta lembar validasi instrumen yang melibatkan validator dosen dan guru. Proses validasi dilakukan untuk memastikan kelayakan instrumen dari aspek isi, konstruksi, dan bahasa. Hasil validasi menunjukkan bahwa instrumen tes dan pedoman wawancara berada pada kriteria valid dan layak digunakan, baik dengan maupun tanpa revisi sesuai saran validator. Sebelum tes diberikan, siswa memperoleh penjelasan singkat mengenai materi statistika. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa meskipun nilai siswa relatif tinggi, masih ditemukan kesulitan yang dominan pada materi median. Kesulitan tersebut meliputi kesalahan dalam menentukan kelas median, menghitung frekuensi kumulatif, serta menentukan komponen rumus median. Berdasarkan hasil wawancara, kesulitan siswa disebabkan oleh kurangnya pemahaman konsep dasar statistika dan ketidaktelitian dalam perhitungan. Temuan ini diharapkan dapat menjadi bahan pertimbangan bagi guru dalam merancang strategi pembelajaran statistika yang lebih efektif.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan pemahaman konsep matematis siswa SMA dalam menyelesaikan soal Sistem Persamaan Linear Tiga Variabel (SPLTV). Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 20 siswa kelas XI MAN 1 Probolinggo, di mana 3 siswa yang mewakili kategori kemampuan tinggi, sedang, dan rendah dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling untuk analisis mendalam. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui tes uraian berbasis 5 indikator pemahaman konsep dan wawancara semi-terstruktur. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa dengan kemampuan tinggi mampu memenuhi kelima indikator pemahaman konsep. Siswa berkemampuan sedang mampu menyatakan ulang konsep, mengklasifikasikan objek, dan membuat model matematika, tetapi mengalami hambatan dalam mengaitkan antar konsep secara lengkap serta pelaksanaan prosedur algoritma. Sedangkan siswa berkemampuan rendah masih mengalami kesulitan signifikan pada hampir seluruh indikator, terutama representasi matematika dan penerapan prosedur algoritma.

Abstract

The Community Service Program (PKM) on Mathematics Tutoring for Grade X B Students of MAN 1 Probolinggo on the Topic of Radical Forms was conducted to enhance students’ understanding of the relationship between exponents and radicals. Preliminary observations revealed that most of the 19 male students in the class faced difficulties in mastering the basic concept of exponents, which affected their comprehension of radical expressions. The program was implemented over six weeks with one session per week using a tutoring-based learning approach. The implementation consisted of five stages: planning, pretest, tutoring sessions, posttest, and evaluation. The results showed an increase in the average score from 46 on the pretest to 80 on the posttest, along with improved motivation and active participation during learning activities. Therefore, this PKM activity proved effective in strengthening students’ conceptual understanding of radicals and can serve as an alternative strategy to address learning difficulties in mathematics at the senior high school level.
