Abstract

Islamic Religious Education (PAI) plays an important role in shaping the character and moral values of Muslim communities. In the Barito River Basin area, PAI has a strategic role in improving the quality of life of the Dayak Bakumpai community, which is predominantly Muslim. However, the development of Islamic religious education in this region still faces several challenges, such as the limited availability of qualified human resources, inadequate educational facilities, and the low level of community awareness regarding the importance of religious education. In this context, Dayak Bakumpai women have a significant role in strengthening religious education within both family and community environments. They not only function as housewives but also act as educators, motivators, and social actors who support religious learning activities. Nevertheless, their contribution to the development of Islamic religious education has not been fully optimized and often receives limited attention. Therefore, this study aims to examine the role of Dayak Bakumpai women in improving the quality of Islamic Religious Education in the Barito River Basin, as well as to identify factors that influence their participation and strategies to strengthen their role in the community. This research uses a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings show that Dayak Bakumpai women play an important role in strengthening religious values, providing informal religious education in families, and supporting community religious activities. However, their role is still constrained by limited educational facilities, access to resources, and social support. Strengthening community awareness and empowering women can help optimize their role in improving the quality of Islamic religious education in the region

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of heroic values and Banjar culture in Islamic education as an effort to shape a religious, nationalistic, independent, and noble national character. This study employs a library research method using a descriptive qualitative approach. The data sources were obtained from various literature materials, including books, scientific journals, academic articles, Banjar cultural documents, and references related to Islamic education and character education. The data analysis techniques were carried out through data reduction, classification, interpretation, and systematic conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the heroic values embedded within Banjar society, such as courage, responsibility, social solidarity, religiosity, hard work, and the spirit of dedication, have strong relevance to the objectives of Islamic education in forming insan kamil (the complete human being). Banjar culture also contains local values that support the formation of national character, including mutual cooperation, deliberation, politeness, respect for religious scholars, and religious traditions rich in moral education. The integration of these values into Islamic education can be implemented through curriculum development, local culture-based learning, teacher exemplification, religious habituation, and social community activities. The novelty of this study lies in its effort to connect the heroic values of Banjar society with the concept of character education in Islamic education in an integrative and contextual manner as a model for strengthening national character based on local wisdom

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the tradition of ngaji duduk among Banjar women as a manifestation of Islam Nusantara and to examine its relevance within contemporary Islamic thought. The research focuses on understanding how this local religious tradition functions as a medium for transmitting Islamic values, strengthening women’s religious agency, and preserving indigenous Islamic culture in South Kalimantan. This study employs a qualitative approach using library research methods. Data were collected from books, scientific articles, historical documents, and scholarly works related to Banjar culture, Islamic education, women’s religious participation, Islam Nusantara, and contemporary Islamic thought. The findings reveal that the ngaji duduk tradition represents a living manifestation of Islam Nusantara characterized by moderation, cultural accommodation, social harmony, and contextual religious understanding. Banjar women are not merely recipients of religious knowledge but active agents in maintaining Islamic scholarship, social cohesion, and local religious identity. Furthermore, this tradition reflects contemporary Islamic perspectives that emphasize inclusiveness, contextualization, local wisdom, and the integration of Islamic teachings with socio-cultural realities. The novelty of this study lies in its effort to connect Banjar women’s religious practices with the discourse of Islam Nusantara and contemporary Islamic thought, thereby demonstrating that local traditions can serve as significant instruments for preserving Islamic values amid modern social transformations.

Abstract

This study examines the tradition of using Banjar Malay language in learning kitab turats within Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in South Kalimantan. The objective of this research is to explore how the use of local language contributes to students’ understanding of classical Islamic texts as well as its role in preserving local cultural identity. The study employs a qualitative approach using library research methods by analyzing relevant books, journals, and academic literature related to pesantren education, sociolinguistics, and Islamic pedagogy. The findings indicate that Banjar Malay language functions as an effective pedagogical bridge that simplifies complex Arabic texts and enhances students’ comprehension. In addition, its use strengthens emotional relationships between teachers and students, increases classroom participation, and supports the transmission of local cultural values. The tradition also plays a significant role in maintaining regional linguistic identity amid modernization and globalization. Therefore, the integration of Banjar Malay language in pesantren learning represents a form of culturally responsive Islamic education that is both adaptive and preservative in nature

Abstract

This study examines the tradition of Batajak Rumah, a communal practice of building houses through mutual cooperation in Banjar society, and its role in strengthening multicultural attitudes among junior high school students in Balangan Regency, South Kalimantan. Balangan Regency is a multiethnic region inhabited by Banjar, Dayak Meratus, Javanese, Bugis, and other ethnic communities. Using a library research approach with ethnopedagogical analysis, this article argues that Batajak Rumah inherently embodies five multicultural values: cross-ethnic ta'awun (mutual assistance), ukhuwwah insaniyyah (human brotherhood), social reciprocity, participatory inclusiveness, and leadership based on expertise rather than ethnicity. These values have direct correspondence with Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachings and can be strengthened through four learning strategies: inductive thematic integration, experiential learning, digital documentation projects, and collaboration among schools, communities, and families. The findings indicate that Batajak Rumah is an active pedagogical asset that can optimize the role of PAI learning in shaping multicultural attitudes among junior high school students in multiethnic areas, while also enhancing the relevance and contextualization of PAI as a character-building subject.
