Abstract

Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD) is a term used to describe a condition that can affect the urinary bladder and lower urinary tract. Cystitis is an inflammatory disease of the urinary bladder caused by infectious and non-infectious agents, namely urine crystals. The occurrence of crystals in the urinary tract often occurs in cats that consume high-mineral and calcium feed without adequate water intake. The cat case complained of not urinating for three days, abdominal distension, and pain in the urinary bladder. Examination methods with routine hematology, ultrasonography, native tests, urine dipsticks, bacterial cultures, and native tests were carried out at the Unhas Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The diagnosis of Cystitis was confirmed by laboratory examination results found struvite crystals found >10 crystals/HPF, ultrasound examination showed hyperechoic appearance in the urinary bladder, urine dipstick test pH 7.5 and protein +++, hematology results found an increase in MCV values ​​and a decrease in Hb, MCHC and PCT indicators. . Handling of this case with catheter installation and fluid therapy. Treatment with antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and supportive drugs vitamins and immune boosters. Also given a diet feed to prevent recurrence of the case

Abstract

Pyometra is a pathological condition in the female reproductive organs caused by a bacterial infection that leads to the accumulation of pus within the uterus. The aim of this article is to understand the diagnosis and management of pyometra in dogs. The diagnostic methods used include: anamnesis, physical examination, clinical examination, laboratory tests such as routine hematology and blood smear, as well as supporting examination through ultrasound. Examination Results:Anamnesis: A female Miniature Pomeranian dog, 8 years old, weighing 4.5 kg. The physical examination revealed lethargy, anorexia, and a reddish-brown vaginal discharge. Hematology results showed an increase in WBC, lymphocytes, monocytes, and granulocytes, while RBC, HGB, HCT, MCV, MCH, PCT, and PLT were decreased. Ultrasound findings: Enlarged uterus with a diameter of 5.7 cm due to the accumulation of fluid with hypoechoic-anechoic echogenicity (pus). The uterine wall was thickened with hyperechoic-hypoechoic echogenicity, leading to a diagnosis of open pyometra. Management involved an ovariohysterectomy procedure. During hospitalization, the following medications were administered: Azithromycin, Meloxicam, Furosemide, Sangobion, Mecobalamin, Curcuma Plus, Imboost, and Gold-G. A special diet of Royal Canin Recovery food was also provided. On the fifth day, the dog underwent reoperation due to wet surgical sutures and the accumulation of fluid in the abdominal area. After 10 days of treatment, the surgical site had dried, and the dog showed significant recovery, allowing it to be discharged for outpatient care.

Abstract

Infectious diseases in domestic cats (Felis catus) remain a major challenge in veterinary practice, particularly in multi-etiological infections involving viral agents and hemotropic parasites. Coinfection with Feline Panleukopenia Virus (FPV) and Feline Hemotropic Mycoplasmosis (FHM) can cause severe immunosuppression, exacerbate clinical signs, and increase mortality risk, often accompanied by complications such as feline flu due to opportunistic secondary infections. This study aimed to describe the clinical management of a feline flu case in a cat infected with FPV and concurrent FHM at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Hasanuddin University. This case report describes a domestic cat presenting with vomiting, hemorrhagic diarrhea, anorexia, dehydration, and respiratory distress. Diagnosis was established based on anamnesis, clinical examination, hematological analysis, FPV rapid testing, blood smear examination, and bacterial culture. Therapeutic management included fluid therapy, antiviral treatment, culture-guided antibiotic therapy, antiparasitic treatment, nebulization therapy using salbutamol, as well as supportive and nutritional care. The results revealed that the cat tested positive for FPV, Mycoplasma haemofelis was detected on blood smear examination, and Klebsiella pneumoniae was isolated through bacterial culture. Comprehensive therapeutic management led to gradual clinical improvement. This case highlights the importance of an integrated diagnostic and therapeutic approach in the management of multi-etiological infections in cats.

Abstract

Pleural effusion is the abnormal accumulation of fluid in the pleural cavity, which may result from infection, trauma, neoplasia or systemic disease. This condition often leads to acute respiratory distress in cats and requires immediate intervention. Thoracocentesis is the primary diagnostic and therapeutic method to evaluate the type of fluid and identify possible causative pathogens. This report to describe the management of pleural effusion in a four-year-old female Persian cat who presented with complaints of dyspnea, weakness, and decreased appetite. Physical examination and thoracic radiographs revealed fluid accumulation in the pleural cavity. Thoracocentesis was performed at the 7th or 8th intercostal space after the area was shaved and sterilized. The cat was placed in lateral recumbency and anesthetized before fluid aspiration with a syringe. Hematological examination revealed anemia, while radiographs showed radiopaque areas on the thorax. The aspirated fluid was clear pale yellow in color. Bacterial culture on NA medium revealed microbial growth, indicating infection as one of the causes of the effusion. In conclusion, thoracocentesis plays an important role in the diagnosis and therapy of pleural effusion, and helps speed up the patient's recovery. The cat recovered and was discharged after six days of intensive care.
