Abstract

Telon oil and children have been an inseparable unity. The making of telon oil from easy-to-find traditional ingredients can encourage home industry ideas for economic growth. The use of essential oils (orange oil/ lavender oil) as components of the making of telon oil is expected to avoid mosquito bites causing itching and even dengue fever. The community service activity program aims to provide training of anti-mosquito telon oil making to keep children healthy. The participants of the program include a cadre of PKK (Family Welfare Movement) members in RW (Community Unit) 21, Nusukan Village, Banjarsari Sub-district, Surakarta. The community service activity began with the explanation of natural ingredients used to make telon oil as well as their benefits. Afterward, the training was conducted through several stages including a tutorial, technical assistance by the community service team, and evaluation of the activity. The results of the activity are: 1) the participants have an understanding of the benefits of the ingredients used; 2) the participants understand the procedure to make the anti-mosquito telon oil; 3) the participants can make the anti-mosquito telon oil by themselves.

Abstract

Dental caries is a dental infection with a high prevalence in Indonesia, one of the causes is Streptococcus mutans which demineralizes the tissues causing dissolution and dental caries. To reduce the number of microorganisms, people can utilize natural materials. One of the plants that have potential as an antibacterial is johar leaf and avocado leaf. The purpose of this study was to determine the antibacterial activity of the combination of ethanol extract of johar leaves (Cassia siamea Lamk) and avocado leaves (Persea americana Mill.) against Streptococcus mutans. This study uses the diffusion method. Extraction of johar leaves and avocado leaves was carried out by maceration method then the extracts were combined 1:1 with concentration series of 25%, 50%, 75% and 100%. Antibacterial testing uses the diffusion method to determine the inhibition. Streptococcus mutans bacteria were cultured at a density of 108 CFU/ml in MHA (Muller Hinton Agar) medium. Inhibitory power is known by measuring the diameter of the inhibition zone formed around the well. The average inhibition test results were obtained at concentrations of 25% (6 mm), 50% (6.1 mm), 75% (7.1 mm) and 100% (9.3 mm). The positive control of ciprofloxacin (30 mm) and the negative control did not show the diameter of the inhibition zone. So that the greater the concentration of the extract combination, the greater the diameter of the inhibition zone obtained to inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans and there is a significant difference in the diameter of the inhibition zone of the combination of extracts and ciprofloxacin positive control.

Abstract

Radikal bebas dapat meningkat dengan bertambahnya usia serta sinar UV mengakibatkan kerusakan progresif struktur seluler yang menghasilkan penuaan yang dipercepat. Antioksidan yang terkandung dalam daun teh mampu menangkap radikal bebas mampu meredam efek negatifnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui formula sabun badan cair variasi ekstrak daun teh hijau yang memiliki antioksidan terbaik dengan mutu dan stabilitas sediaan yang baik. Pembuatan formula sabun cair badan antioksidan menggunakan tiga seri kosentrasi ekstrak etanol daun teh hijau (Camellia sinensi L.) yaitu 2,4, dan 6%. maserasi pelarut etanol 70%. Sediian sabun diuji mutu fisik dan stabilitasnya dengan uji organopleptis, uji pH, uji viskositas, uji tinggi busa, homogenitas, dan cycling test, alkali bebas, bobot jenit. Pengujian daya antioksidan dilakukan dengan metode DPPH (1,1-Dipheny1-2-Picrylhydrazyl) secara spektrometri UV-Vis pada ring panjang gelombang 290-700 nm. Hasil penelitian dianalisis secara statistik menggunakan metode one-way ANOVA dan Tukey. Hasil penelitian keempat formula sabun cair badan ekstrak etanol daun teh hijau memiliki mutu fisik dan stabilitas yang baik yang telah ditetapkan oleh SNI, nilai IC50 menunjukan bahwa semakin tinggi kosentrasi ekstrak dalam formula semakin kecil IC50, IC50 Formulasi 0(basis) (208.3223±12,4350) kemudian untuk formula I dan formula II memiliki IC50 (124,6437 ±1,0582) ppm dan (112,6157±0,807) ppm dan formula III (98,60679 ± 2,4906) ppm.

Abstract

Antioksidan adalah molekul yang menghambat oksidasi molekul lain. Antioksidan dapat melindungi kulit dari kerusakan sel akibat sinar UV dan anti-penuaan. Daun teh mengandung 30-40% polifenol, merupakan antioksidan kuat. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui formulasi lotion ekstrak daun teh hijau (Camellia sinensis) yang menghasilkan uji mutu dan stabilitas fisik yang baik serta memiliki aktivitas antioksidan berdasarkan metode DPPH. Daun teh hijau dimaserasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 70%. Persiapan lotion diformulasikan dengan konsentrasi cetyl alcohol 1,5%, 3%, dan 6%. Formula 4 dengan konsentrasi cetyl alcohol 1,5% dan ekstrak 1% merupakan sediaan lotion terbaik dengan variasi konsentrasi cetyl alcohol 1,5% yang memiliki aktivitas antioksidan sangat kuat dengan nilai IC50 sebesar 8,88 ppm.

Abstract

Untuk meningkatkan status kesehatan masyarakat dalam rangka peningkatan perawatan kesehatan keluarga terutama menggunakan bahan tradisional yang mudah di dapatkan dan menciptakan motivasi perintisan home indutri dalam upaya peningkatan perekonomian warga. Maka diperlukan adanya kegiatan penyuluhan dan pelatihan pembuatan minyak telon antinyamuk untuk perawatan kesehatan anak. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dirancang dalam dua kegiatan, yaitu: Pertama, penyuluhan tentang peran bahan alami tradisional dalam kesehatan. Kedua, pelatihan pembuatan minyak telon antinyamuk dari campuran minyak adas, minyak kelapa, minyak kayu putih dan minyak esensial (minyak greentea / minyak lavender) sebagai pengusir nyamuk. Target dari kegiatan di atas adalah masyarakat akan mendapat tambahan keterampilan membuat minyak telon antinyamuk yang dapat dilakukan dengan mudah dan dengan modal kecil sehingga dapat sebagai salah satu alternatif home industri keluarga disamping dapat digunakan bagi kesehatan keluarga sehari-hari. Kata Kunci: minyak telon, greentea, lavender, home industri

Abstract

Infectious diseases are still one of the important public health problems to be considered, especially in developing countries. Mangosteen Leaves (Garcinia mangostana L.) is one of the well-known plants that are useful as antioxidants, antibacterial, and anticancer. This study aims to determine the chemical content and antibacterial activity of ethanol extract, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate and water of mangosteen leaves (Garcinia mangostana L.) on diffuse Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Mangosteen leaves were extracted by maceration using 96% ethanol then continued by fractionation using a liquid-liquid extraction method. Mangosteen leaf extract and the fraction obtained were then tested for antibacterial activity with a concentration of 12.5%, 25% and 50% using disc diffusion method. The positive control used was ciprofloxacin 5μg / disk and negative control using 5% Tween 80. Identification of compound groups can be done using Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) method. The results of antibacterial activity testing showed the zone diameter inhibition of gram-positive bacteria generally tends to be greater than gram-negative bacteria. The diameter of the largest inhibitory zone in Staphylococcus aureus bacteria is found in the water fraction of mangosteen leaves at 50% concentration with inhibitory zone diameter (10 mm), in Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria found in the water fraction and extract with a concentration of 50% has a inhibitory power of (8 mm). The TLC test results showed that in the extracts and fractions of mangosteen leaves contained flavonoids, saponins and steroids.

Abstract

Salmonella typhi are pathogenic bacterium that are source main cause of typhoid fever. The effort for the treatment of Salmonella typhi bacterial infections is using of antibiotics. However, reports stated that this bacterium having resistance to the chloramphenicol, cotrimoxazole, and amoxicillin antibiotics. Also, the using of antibiotics in the long term have seriously bad effects for the human body that causes disfunction of the liver, kidneys, and heart. The solution can be done to reduce the use of antibiotics is using natural ingredients. Plants that have potential as an antibacterial are johar (Cassia siamea Lamk). This research aims to determine antibacterial activity of ethanol extract johar leaves (Cassia siamea Lamk) against Salmonella typhi along with the value of Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). The test using diffusion and dilution methods. Extracts are made in 4 variaties concentration: 100%, 75%, 50%, and 25%. Phytochemical tests in this research include test the content of flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins, and tannins. The test results showed that all of the compounds contained in extract johar leaves. The results showed that the ethanol extract of johar leaves have antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhi. The concentration of ethanol extract johar leaves (Cassia siamea Lamk) 100% has the biggest inhibition zone against the growth of Salmonella typhi bacteria with an inhibition zone of 9.9 mm, while the concentration of ethanol extract johar leaves 25% has the lowest inhibition zone diameter of 6 mm. The MIC value of extract johar leaves against Salmonella typhi can not be determined, but the MBC value is 12.5%.

Abstract

Wedang Uwuh is a well-known traditional health drink from Imogiri, Bantul and Yogyakarta. Ginger is one of the components of wedang uwuh. In Indonesia, ginger comes in three different varieties: red, emprit, and elephant ginger. The aim of this study was to identify the best ginger varieties for wedang uwuh, as well as the ideal brewing period that would yield the most antioxidant activity. After being identified, each plant in the wedang uwuh recipe was brewed in boiling water for 10, 20, and 30 minutes. By using TLC and a test tube, the water wedang uwuh steeped was identified as flavonoids and phenols. The DPPH method was employed in this study's antioxidant activity test. Wedang uwuh containing red ginger brewed for 10 minutes has higher antioxidant activity compared to elephant and emprit ginger, with an IC50 value of 27.73 µg/mL. The Friedman test results on the examination of the type of ginger and the brewing time wedang uwuh was brewed on IC50 obtained p = 0.000 where p<? (0,05). This demonstrates that the brewing time and kind of ginger used in wedang uwuh have an impact on the IC50 value. Keywords:          Antioxidant, ginger, wedang uwuh, DPPH   Abstrak Wedang Uwuh adalah minuman kesehatan tradisional khas Imogiri, Bantul dan Yogyakarta. Salah satu bahan wedang uwuh adalah jahe. Ada tiga jenis jahe di Indonesia: jahe gajah, merah dan emprit. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui aktivitas antioksidan terbaik dari wedang uwuh dengan variasi jenis jahe dan waktu penyeduhan yang paling tepat untuk wedang uwuh agar menghasilkan aktivitas antioksidan paling tinggi. Semua tanaman dalam formula wedang uwuh dideterminasi kemudian diseduh menggunakan air mendidih selama 10, 20, dan 30 menit. Air seduhan wedang uwuh diidentifikasi flavonoid dan fenol dengan KLT dan uji tabung. Uji aktivitas antioksidan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode DPPH. Wedang uwuh dengan kandungan jahe merah yang diseduh selama 10 menit memiliki aktivitas antioksidan lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan jahe gajah dan emprit, dengan nilai IC50 27,73 µg/mL. Hasil uji friedman pada analisis jenis jahe dan waktu penyeduhan wedang uwuh terhadap IC50 diperoleh p = 0,000 dimana p<? (0,05). Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa ada pengaruh jenis jahe dan waktu penyeduhan wedang uwuh terhadap nilai IC50. Kata Kunci:         Antioksidan, jahe, wedang uwuh, DPPH
