Abstract

Coffee (Coffea spp.) is a major agricultural commodity in Indonesia, particularly the Tim-Tim variety cultivated in the highlands of Aceh Tengah. Pest attacks pose a significant threat to coffee production, making the presence of natural enemies essential. This study aimed to identify predatory insects in Tim-Tim coffee plantations in Rusip Antara Village, Aceh Tengah Regency. Sampling was conducted using three trap types: light traps, yellow pan traps, and malaise traps, with three replications over three months. A total of 154 individuals belonging to 11 families were collected. The Shannon-Wiener diversity index (H’) ranged from 3.27 to 3.36, indicating high diversity across all trap types. The evenness index was very high (E = 0.97–1.00), showing no dominant family. Mantidae and Carabidae were the most abundant families. These findings suggest that Tim-Tim coffee agroecosystems in Rusip Antara support high natural biological control potential, reinforced by semi-organic management and shade-grown practices.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the chemical and sensory qualities of rujak seasoning based on kawista fruit (Limonia acidissima) as an innovative traditional food product utilizing local ingredients. Kawista was selected for its bioactive compounds, such as flavonoids, tannins, organic acids, and natural sugars, which contribute to its unique flavor and health benefits. The chemical parameters analyzed included moisture content, total sugar, total acidity, and pH, while sensory parameters encompassed hedonic tests for taste, aroma, texture, and color. The research employed a Randomized Block Design with two factors: types of palm sugar (aren, coconut, and cane) and kawista concentrations (2%, 4%, 6%, 8%, 10%, 12%). Results showed that aren sugar provided the best stability in sugar content, pH, and texture, and achieved the highest hedonic values, particularly at 8% kawista concentration. Conversely, cane sugar exhibited the lowest performance, especially at higher concentrations, due to its instability against organic acids. This study underscores the potential of aren sugar as the primary ingredient in developing kawista-based rujak seasoning. It supports the diversification of local fruit-based foods and provides opportunities for innovative traditional products to compete in local and global markets.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of botanical pesticides from soursop leaf and papaya leaf extracts in controlling brown planthopper on rice plants. The research was conducted in Nien Village, Simpang Tiga District, Pidie Regency, from February to April 2025, using a factorial Randomized Block Design (RBD) with two factors. Factor I was soursop leaf extract concentration (S): S0 = 0 ml/l water, S1 = 100 ml/l water, and S2 = 200 ml/l water. Factor II was papaya leaf extract concentration (P): P0 = 0 ml/l water, P1 = 100 ml/l water, and P2 = 200 ml/l water. Observed parameters included mortality rate, attack intensity, plant height, number of tillers, number of panicles per clump, and grain weight per plot. The results showed that soursop leaf extract at 200 ml (S2) had a highly significant effect on pest mortality (84.72%), attack intensity after application (11.11%), plant height, number of tillers at 30 DAP, and grain weight per plot. Papaya leaf extract at 200 ml (P2) had a highly significant effect on pest mortality (68.05%), attack intensity after application (8.33%), plant height, number of tillers at 30 DAP, and number of panicles per clump. The combination of both extracts (S2P2) showed a highly significant interaction on attack intensity after application, plant height, and number of tillers at 30 DAP, and a significant effect on pest mortality, with the highest mortality (95.83%) and lowest attack intensity (0%) obtained in the S2P2 combination.
