Abstract

This study aims to improve the generic science skills and teamwork of students through cooperative learning models based on Batak culture with the Culturally Responsive Teaching approach. This research was conducted at the MAS Medan UIN SU Laboratory T.P 2018/2019. This type of research is a quasi-experimental exercise using two group pretest-posttest design. The instruments used were generic science skills test instruments and student collaboration questionnaires. Data were analyzed using SPSS 16.0, t test and gain test. The results showed that the generic science skills and teamwork of students who were taught by cooperative learning models based on Batak culture were better than those taught by conventional models. Physics learning through the Culturally Responsive Teaching approach integrated with ethnophysics can increase KGS and student collaboration including; direct observation, the law of cause and effect, logical inference, ability to participate, sharing ability and communication skills.

Abstract

Learning motivation is a critical determinant of student’s academic success, particularly in basic physics courses. This study aims to examine the effect of a flipbook-based practicum module integrated with PhET simulations, implemented within an academic guidance framework, on students' learning motivation at STAIN Mandailing Natal. The study employed a quantitative approach with a One-Group Pretest-Posttest design. The sample consisted of 32 students from the Science Education Study Program, selected through total sampling. Data were collected using a learning motivation questionnaire based on ARCS dimensions (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction), which was validated (Aiken's V = 0.84–0.92; α = 0.89). Data were analyzed using Paired Sample t-test, Cohen's d, and Normalized Gain. Results indicated: (1) a significant increase in learning motivation after the intervention, t(31) = 16.32; p < 0.001; (2) a very large effect size (Cohen's d = 2.88) with a moderate improvement category (N-Gain = 0.46); (3) the Confidence and Satisfaction dimensions showed the highest gains. It is concluded that integrating flipbook-PhET modules within academic guidance effectively enhances students' learning motivation. This study provides empirical contributions to the development of innovative academic guidance models in Islamic higher education institutions.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to enhance religious understanding, spiritual preparedness, and social solidarity among community members in welcoming the holy month of Ramadan. The program was conducted on Saturday evening, February 14, 2026, after the Isha prayer at Masjid Al-Hilal, targeting the residents of Tambiski Village. The main speaker was Azhar Nasution, M.Ag., accompanied by a team of lecturers from Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam Negeri Mandailing Natal. The activity employed lecture-based, participatory, educational, and religio-cultural approaches, positioning the community as both the subject and the object of the program. The results indicated an increase in public understanding of the importance of physical and spiritual preparation before entering Ramadan. This was reflected in the participants’ enthusiasm throughout the activity, especially during the discussion and question-and-answer session, which focused on recommended sunnah practices, fasting etiquette, spiritual preparation, and ways to cultivate a worshipful atmosphere within the family. The attendance of participants from various social groups demonstrated strong community engagement and support for religious activities in the village. The program also generated positive social impacts, including greater motivation among younger generations to participate in religious activities, strengthened social relationships among residents, and the growth of a spirit of mutual cooperation. Overall, this community service activity successfully served as a medium of religious education, spiritual motivation, and reinforcement of socio-religious values in welcoming Ramadan
