Abstract

The social semiotic analysis in this study aims to (1) reveal what multicultural values are found in ELT textbooks for ninth-grade learners, (2) explain how the texts and the images in the analyzed textbooks present multicultural values, and (3) uncover how social semiotics dimensions can decode multicultural values. This study finds that among four multicultural values discovered in the textbooks, responsibility to the world community has the most frequent appearance while respect for human dignity and universal human rights has the least frequent appearance. Those values are presented denotatively and connotatively through texts, images, and texts-images. Based on the findings, textbook authors are recommended to include more content and add learning activities that facilitate discussions and reflections on multiculturalism. In addition, this research suggests that English teachers who use these textbooks add learning activities that enable students to discuss multicultural values since, in this study, multicultural values are mainly presented connotatively.

Abstract

Peace value is a key to instill learners with good characters. Peace education can readily be integrated into values education as a part of subject through textbook since textbook is mostly used material and every aspect of the textbook has the potential to promote the values. Aiming to explore explicit and implicit messages about peace values in English Textbook for Tenth-Grade Senior High School Students, this study reviews the images of the textbook by revealing the embedded peace values. Critical discourse analysis was conducted to characterize, understand and explain the nature of the textbook’s discourse. The list of peace indicators from Balasooriya (2001) was used to identify kinds of peace values represented in the textbook. The result shows that the contents of peace values, for particularly peace with nature, was seriously under represented while the most represented one is social peace. Consequently, the imbalanced representation of peace values may lead to failure of raising the optimal implementation of the three categories of peace values

Abstract

Students often consider mathematics a difficult subject; however, there is great potential to improve the quality of learning when artificial intelligence (AI) technology is applied in education. The purpose of this study is to examine the ability of AI to improve mathematics learning and consider public education. This study focuses on two main areas: first, how AI can improve students' understanding of mathematical concepts in a more interactive and adaptive way; and second, the extent to which AI contributes to ensuring equitable access and improving educational service standards. Overall, this study finds that artificial intelligence technology has a significant impact in the context of education in helping students understand mathematical concepts and providing learning experiences that are tailored to students' needs. In line with this, AI also helps public education services through inclusive and interactive distance learning services. The two main challenges that need to be addressed are the preparation of digital infrastructure and the preparation of educators. Based on the above reasons, the conclusion that can be drawn is that AI technology has high potential to improve the quality of mathematics learning and public services in the region.

Abstract

This study examines the potential of Content-Based Instruction (CBI) in supporting student competency development within the framework of Indonesia’s Kurikulum Merdeka. Using a qualitative literature review approach, 15 peer-reviewed studies published between 2020 and 2024 were systematically selected and analyzed through thematic analysis. The findings indicate that CBI contributes to four main areas: improvement of academic language proficiency, enhancement of higher-order thinking skills, promotion of student autonomy, and increased learning motivation. However, challenges related to teacher preparedness and limited instructional resources remain significant barriers to effective implementation. This study contributes to the existing literature by clarifying the alignment between CBI principles and the competency-based orientation of Kurikulum Merdeka and by highlighting key considerations for curriculum design and teacher professional development in the Indonesian context. These findings offer implications for curriculum designers and teacher training programs under Kurikulum Merdeka.

Abstract

Proses pengembangan perangkat pembelajaran RBL-STEM ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan konjekturing mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan masalah pemberian kebutuhan nutrisi tanaman hidroponik dengan menerapkan teknik spatial temporal graph neural network dan resolving efficient dominating set (REDS).  Perangkat dikembangkan berdasarkan model Thiagarajan (4D) yang meliputi tahapan pendefinisian, perancangan, pengembangan, dan penyebaran. Kriteria perangkat pembelajaran yang digunakan meliputi aspek validitas, kepraktisan, dan efektivitas. Hasil uji efektivitas menunjukkan bahwa pada pre-test, sebesar 13% mahasiswa berada pada tingkat penguasaan rendah (0\le TPS<40), 77% pada tingkat cukup (40\le TPS<60), dan 10% pada tingkat sedang (60\le TPS<75). Sementara pada post-test, terjadi peningkatan signifikan yaitu 3% mahasiswa berada pada tingkat cukup, 53% pada tingkat sedang, dan 43% pada tingkat tinggi (75\le TPS<90), sehingga total mahasiswa yang tuntas mencapai 86%. Temuan ini menunjukkan bahwa perangkat pembelajaran yang dikembangkan tidak hanya valid dan praktis, tetapi juga efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan konjekturing mahasiswa pada konteks pembelajaran berbasis masalah dan teknologi kecerdasan buatan.
