Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of digital innovation in EduTech platforms in improving elementary students' cognitive understanding and socio-environmental behavioral intention, comparing EduTech-based learning with conventional methods within an Education for Sustainable Development framework. Methodology: This study used a quantitative quasi-experimental Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design involving 50 fourth-grade students (25 experimental, 25 control) at UPTD SD Inpres Oelmasi, selected through cluster random sampling. Data were collected using validated comprehension tests and Likert-scale questionnaires, then analyzed using N-Gain scores, Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene's homogeneity test, Mann-Whitney U test, and rank-biserial correlation (effect size). Main Findings: Both groups showed improved post-test scores, but the experimental group using EduTech achieved a higher mean N-Gain than the control group. Shapiro-Wilk and Q-Q plot results indicated non-normal data distribution, so hypothesis testing used the Mann-Whitney U test (U = 169.5, p < .05), confirming a statistically significant difference favoring EduTech. The rank-biserial correlation (r = .445) indicated a moderate practical effect, demonstrating EduTech's meaningful contribution to students' understanding of social and environmental sustainability.. Novelty/Originality of this study: Unlike prior studies that mostly focus on general academic achievement or specific subjects, this study specifically evaluates EduTech's effectiveness in supporting integrated social and environmental sustainability learning at the elementary level. By empirically testing the Connectivism theory and TPACK framework together, it extends evidence on early-age digital pedagogy for Education for Sustainable Development and offers practical guidance for teachers implementing ESD-based digital learning strategies.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to assess the influence and implementation process of Smartboard in encouraging collaborative learning and creativity of Generation Alpha students in elementary schools in the digital era. Generation Alpha or also known as generation Y is a group of children born after 2010. They have the character of being digital natives, familiar with gadgets and like to access the internet but also often distorted and lack social interaction, The reason for this study is that Gen Alpha requires a different educational approach. This research method uses a mixed method sequential explanatory, starting with a quantitative stage of quasi-experiment (experimental and control classes) and then qualitative methods through observation and interviews at SDS Kemala Bhayangkari 01 Medan. The research instruments used were a collaboration questionnaire, a product creativity test, observation guidelines, and interviews. Quantitative results showed a significant increase in the experimental class for collaboration scores (p<0.01) and creativity (p<0.05). Qualitative findings revealed three main themes: (1) the transformation of students' roles from passive to active collaboration through digital and multi-touch group workspaces, (2) stimulation of creativity through visuals, audio, and gamification, and (3) lively classroom dynamics with multi-directional communication. The combined results indicated that the Smartboard acted as a catalyst that facilitated a participatory learning environment, fostering 21st-century skills. This study suggests ongoing teacher training, curriculum-based content integration, and systematic evaluation for optimizing educational technology investments.

Abstract

SDN 060914 Medan Sunggal faced challenges in science learning, particularly in teaching the Earth's layer structure, due to limited utilization of digital learning media and the difficulty of visualizing abstract concepts. This community service program aimed to implement a research-based web learning medium to support science instruction and strengthen students' science literacy. The program involved one fifth-grade teacher and 28 students through a participatory approach consisting of needs assessment, teacher training, classroom implementation, mentoring, and evaluation. Data were collected through observations, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The results showed that the teacher was able to independently operate and integrate the web-based learning medium into classroom learning after participating in the training and mentoring activities. Students demonstrated high participation in utilizing the medium, with active engagement increasing from 52.4% to 85.7% during the implementation period. In addition, 89.3% of students stated that the medium helped them understand the Earth's layer structure material more easily. The program contributed to improving teachers’ capacity in utilizing digital learning media and supported more interactive science learning. The implementation of the web-based learning medium can serve as an alternative strategy for strengthening digital-based science learning in elementary schools..

Abstract

Purpose: Early childhood education (ECE) serves as a foundational stage for children's holistic development, yet many programs continue to rely on conventional curricula that inadequately address children's diverse developmental needs. This study examines curriculum innovation and pedagogical advancement in ECE settings, with the aim of proposing a framework for developmentally appropriate practice (DAP) that integrates child-centered, progressive pedagogical approaches to support children's cognitive, social, and emotional development. Methodology: A qualitative case study design was employed across multiple early childhood education centers. Participants comprised early childhood teachers, curriculum coordinators, and school administrators directly involved in curriculum planning and implementation. Data were generated through semi-structured interviews, classroom observations, and document analysis of curriculum materials and lesson plans. Thematic analysis was used to identify patterns across curriculum innovation, pedagogical practices, and developmental appropriateness. Trustworthiness was established through data triangulation and member checking. Results: Findings reveal that curriculum innovation meaningfully enhances developmentally appropriate learning when grounded in child-centered pedagogical practices. Key innovative strategies identified include play-based learning, inquiry-based activities, and integrated thematic curriculum design. These approaches were associated with increased children's engagement, creativity, collaborative behavior, and problem-solving competencies. Teachers who adopted reflective practice and flexible curriculum adaptation demonstrated greater responsiveness to children's diverse developmental needs. Conclusions: Integrating curriculum innovation with progressive pedagogy offers a robust foundation for developmentally appropriate learning in early childhood settings. The proposed framework foregrounds child-centered environments, flexible curriculum structures, and reflective teaching as core principles. These findings carry practical implications for ECE educators, curriculum developers, and policymakers committed to improving the quality and responsiveness of early childhood education programs.
