Abstract

Maluku waters have the potential to be developed for seaweed cultivation because they are qualified with good water quality. Good water quality for seaweed cultivation includes clear water, free from pollution, bottom waters that are dominated by a mixture of coral and sand which are the main requirements in the development of seaweed aquaculture. The waters of Wael Hamlet have the potential for the development of seaweed cultivation, but the high level of human activity in utilizing the waters of Wael Hamlet results in polluting and degrading water quality. This study aims to measure the quality of seaweed cultivation waters in Wael Hamlet. This research was conducted in the seaweed cultivation area of Wael Hamlet, West Seram Regency in July-August 2023 for 45 days. The method used in this study is descriptive quantitative using 5 sampling points of observation for 7 repetitions in the observation area of Dusun Wael. The results showed water quality parameters include temperature ranging from 21-33oC, salinity 30-34 ppt, brightness 3-6 m, DO 3.62-7.34 mg/l, pH 7.25-7.31, phosphate 0-0.15 mg/l, nitrate 0-0.01 mg/l. Based on the results of the study, water quality parameters are still in accordance with quality standards for the growth and development of seaweed cultivation in Wael Hamlet. ABTSRAK Perairan Maluku memiliki potensi yang dapat dikembangkan untuk usaha budidaya rumput laut karena memenuhi syarat dengan kualitas air yang baik. Kualitas air yang baik untuk budidaya rumput laut meliputi air yang jernih, bebas dari pencemaran, dasar perairan yang didominasi campuran batu karang dan pasir yang merupakan syarat utama dalam pengembangan usaha budidaya rumput laut. Perairan Dusun Wael berpotensi untuk pengembangan budidaya rumput laut, namun tingginya aktivitas manusia dalam memanfaatkan perairan Dusun Wael berakibat mencemari dan menurunkan kualitas perairan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengukur kualitas perairan budidaya rumput laut Dusun Wael. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada area budidaya rumput laut Dusun Wael, Kabupaten Seram Bagian Barat pada bulan Juli-Agustus 2023 selama 45 hari. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kuantitatif dengan menggunakan 5 titik sampling pengamatan selama 7 kali pengulangan pada daerah pengamatan Dusun Wael. Hasil penelitian menunjukan parameter kualitas air meliputi suhu berkisar 21-33oC, salinitas 30-34 ppt, kecerahan 3-6 m, DO 3,62-7,34 mg/l, pH 7.25-7.31, fosfat 0-0.15 mg/l, nitrat 0-0.01 mg/l. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, parameter kualitas perairan masih sesuai baku mutu untuk pertumbuhan serta pengembangan budidaya rumput laut di Dusun Wael. Abstract

The mangrove community of Kaibobu Village has an important role in supporting the lives of the community, the environment, and especially the marine tourism sector. In addition, the mangrove community on the coast of Kaibobu Village Beach is also inseparable from various threats from anthropogenic activities. Based on the importance of the existence of the mangrove community and the lack of information regarding the current condition of the mangrove community, it is necessary to conduct a study regarding the existing condition of the mangrove community so that it can be used as a basis for management activities. This study aims to analyze the condition of the area of the mangrove community, species composition, important value index, standing carbon storage, mangrove canopy closure, and mangrove health conditions. Sentinel-2B imagery was used in this study to assess the area and condition of the mangroves. Data collection on the potential of the mangrove community used the purposive sampling method, and a simple hemispherical photography technique was also applied to collect data on mangrove canopy cover. The mangrove standing carbon storage condition was analyzed using a non-destructive method, and the overall health condition of the mangrove community was estimated based on the Mangrove Health Index. The analysis showed that the mangrove community on the coast of Kaibobu Village is a reasonably large area, and seven types of mangroves were found in all observation plots. Based on the important value index, B. gymnorrhiza, S. alba, and C. tagal are the most dominant types at each research station. The highest carbon storage value of tree stands was found at station AP1, 176.20 tons/ha. Mangrove canopy cover is still relatively dense at all research stations. Then, the overall health condition of the mangroves based on MHI is dominated by moderate conditions with a percentage of area of 78.86%.  Komunitas mangrove Negeri Kaibobu memiliki peranan penting dalam menunjang kehidupan masyarakat, lingkungan, dan khususnya sektor pariwisata bahari.  Selain itu, keberadaan komunitas mangrove di pesisir Pantai Negeri Kaibobu juga tidak terlepas dari berbagai ancaman dari aktivitas antropogenik. Berdasarkan pentingnya keberadaan komunitas mangrove dan masih kurangnya informasi terkait kondisi komunitas mangrove saat ini, Maka perlu dilakukan kajian terkait kondisi eksisting komunitas mangrove sehingga dapat dijadikan sebagai dasar dalam kegiatan pengelolaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis kondisi luasan komunitas mangrove, komposisi jenis, indeks nilai penting, simpanan karbon tegakan, tutupan kanopi mangrove, dan kondisi kesehatan mangrove. Citra sentinel-2B digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk menilai luas dan kondisi mangrove. Pengumpulan data potensi komunitas mangrove menggunakan metode purposive sampling, kemudian teknik hemispherical photography sederhana di aplikasikan juga untuk mencuplik data tutupan tajuk mangrove. Kondisi simpanan karbon tegakan mangrove dianalisis dengan metode non-destruktif, dan kondisi kesehatan komunitas mangrove secara keseluruhan diestimasi berdasarkan Mangrove Health index. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa komunitas mangrove di pesisir Negeri Kaibobu mempunyai wilayah yang cukup luas serta ditemukan tujuh jenis mangrove pada seluruh petak pengamatan. Jenis B. gymnorrhiza, S. alba dan C. tagal merupakan jenis yang paling dominan pada setiap stasiun penelitian berdasarkan indeks nilai pentingnya. Nilai simpanan karbon tegakan pohon tertinggi terdapat pada stasiun AP1 yaitu sebesar 176,20 ton/ha. Tutupan  tajuk mangrove masih tergolong padat di seluruh stasiun penelitian. Kemudian kondisi kesehatan mangrove secara keseluruhan berdasarkan MHI didominasi oleh kondisi moderate dengan persentase luas wilayah  sebesar 78,86%.

Abstract

Coastal utilization that is not directed by the surrounding community such as sand and stone extraction and disposal of solid and liquid waste to the beach can cause damage to coastal ecosystems including seagrass ecosystems. Efforts to restore the diminishing condition of the seagrass ecosystem is through seagrass transplantation activities using the TERFS (Transplanting Eelgrass Remotely With Frame System) method. This research was conducted from February 2019 - 31 May 2019. This study aimed to analyze the survival rate and growth rate and physical chemical factors of the waters that affect the growth of the seagrass Enhalus acorides transplanted using the poly bag method and the TERFS method (Transplanting Eelgrass Remotely With Frame System) in the coastal waters of Waai Village, Central Maluku Regency. The results showed that the Enhalus acorides seagrass had a survival rate of 100%. The value of the growth of seagrass for three weeks of observation is in frame 1 of 0.43 cm / day, in frame II of 0.47 cm / day and in frame III of 0.46 cm / day. The average value of the physical chemistry parameters of the waters at the transplantation location using the coastal waters of Waai Village, Central Maluku Regency is still within the range of environmental parameters of the marine waters supporting the growth of seagrass Enhalus acorides, including temperatures of 30.67 ℃, brightness of 100%, water depth of 45.67 cm, current velocity of 0.46 cm / sec, salinity of 29 ‰ and water pH of 7.53. Abstract

Coastal areas have a relatively high diversity of aquatic organisms, including molluscs. The existence of molluscs has a significant role in maintaining environmental stability and supporting the socio-economic life of coastal communities. Coastal communities on Ambon Island often carry out mollusc utilization activities when seawater is low, which occurs in the morning, afternoon and evening. However, some also do it from evening to early morning. Using these molluscs can cause problems with the diversity and abundance of molluscs and their environmental habitat if carried out with high time intensity and volume of collection and using equipment that is not environmentally friendly. Based on these problems, it is necessary to carry out outreach activities for the younger generation, who are agents of change and successors of the nation, regarding the importance of the existence of mollusc resources in coastal areas for community life and the environment. This outreach activity is also part of the conservation character education that we want to provide from an early age. This activity is carried out through several stages: analyzing the problem and preparing and implementing activities. This service activity was attended by 50 students from class IX junior high school. Community service activities went well, and a very positive response was received from the participants. The success of this activity can also be seen from the participant's responses to the evaluation results before and after the activity, which showed a significant increase in their understanding and knowledge of the counselling material.
