Abstract

Prophet Muhammad SAW is known as a plenary figure who succeeded in transforming the pluralistic society of Medina into a harmonious and just community. This success is inseparable from his educational strategy that utilizes spiritual, social, and intellectual capital. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method. Data sources were obtained from books of the Prophetic Sirah, hadith, and contemporary academic literature. The analysis was done thematically to identify the principles and educational strategies used by the Prophet in the social context of Medina. The research found that the Prophet Muhammad's educational strategy was rooted in the values of compassion, wisdom, and dialog. These strategies established a peaceful and inclusive social order. These values remain relevant to be applied in addressing contemporary social challenges, such as intolerance, identity crisis, and social fragmentation. This finding confirms the importance of actualizing mercy-based education in building a civilized society.

Abstract

Religious enthusiasm (ghirah keislaman) among Muslim youth in Indonesia has shown signs of decline, particularly in local cultural settings such as the Bugis community, where modernization and digital influences have reshaped social and moral orientations. This study aims to analyze the strategies of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) in addressing the degradation of ghirah keislaman within the Bugis community in Bukaka Village, Bone Regency, South Sulawesi. Employing a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research explores lived experiences and perceptions of community members including PAI teachers, religious leaders, mosque administrators, youth leaders, and local residents selected purposively for their religious involvement and cultural insight. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model of data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the degradation of ghirah keislaman stems from external factors such as Western cultural influence and digital technology, as well as internal factors including weak mosque regeneration and a lack of contextual da’wah methods. Effective strategies identified include youth-centered da’wah initiatives, provision of inclusive religious facilities, reinforcement of spiritual values, inter-organizational collaboration, and innovative, contextually adaptive educational methods. Theoretically, this study extends the Theory of Religious Motivation and Social Learning Theory by demonstrating that religiosity can be revitalized through culturally embedded educational strategies. Practically, it underscores the significance of integrating local wisdom such as siri’ na pacce (dignity and empathy) into Islamic education to sustain spiritual vitality in an increasingly modern and digital society.

Abstract

This study examines the reconstruction of women’s independence in Qur’anic interpretation through a hermeneutic analysis of Karīmān Ḥamzah’s Tafsīr al-Lu’lu’ wa al-Marjān fī Tafsīr al-Qur’ān al-Karīm. Departing from dominant readings that often position woman within normative and domestic frameworks, this article argues that women’s independence can be rearticulated as an integral part of Qur’anic ethical vision. Employing a thematic-hermeneutic approach, this research analyzes selected Qur’anic verses related to intellectual, economic, social, moral, and spiritual dimensions of women’s lives, while situating Karīmān Ḥamzah’s interpretations within contemporary debates on Qur’anic hermeneutics and interpretive authority. The findings demonstrate that although Karīmān Ḥamzah does not explicitly formulate a systematic theory of women’s independence, her interpretive framework implicitly constructs woman as active moral subjects who participate in knowledge production, economic activity, social engagement, and ethical decision-making. Her approach reflects a form of “popular hermeneutics” that mediates between classical exegetical authorities and the lived realities of modern Muslim societies, thereby expanding the scope of interpretive authority beyond traditional scholarly institutions. At the same time, this study identifies certain tensions in her interpretations, where elements of traditional gender norms remain present, revealing the complex negotiation between continuity and change in contemporary Qur’anic exegesis. This article contributes to the study of Qur’anic hermeneutics by demonstrating that women’s independence is not merely a modern construct, but can be grounded in the Qur’an through context-sensitive interpretation. It also highlights the role of female exegetes in reshaping the production of religious knowledge and offers a nuanced framework for understanding women’s position within Islamic thought in the contemporary era..

Abstract

Abstract This study examines the readiness of Arabic language education in Indonesia for systemic transformation amid technological, sociocultural, and employment-related disruption. It asks how the system can be redesigned to remain relevant, adaptive, and responsive to contemporary academic and professional needs. Using a qualitative systemic-analysis design, the study analyzed 30 documents comprising 10 national policy and regulatory documents and 20 peer-reviewed scholarly publications. Data were coded through a structured document-analysis protocol and examined using policy mapping, qualitative content analysis, and systemic synthesis. The findings indicate uneven readiness across seven analytical domains. Policy and governance frameworks show the strongest reform momentum, whereas curriculum flexibility, pedagogical innovation, teacher capacity, assessment reform, and learner competency alignment remain moderate to low. The most persistent weakness is the dominance of a religious-textual orientation without sufficient integration of communicative, functional, and professional competencies. The study proposes a six-layer transformation framework connecting epistemological reorientation, curriculum redesign, pedagogical innovation, teacher capacity development, governance coordination, and competency-based assessment. The framework offers a conceptual basis for coordinated policy and institutional reform, although its effectiveness requires empirical validation in classrooms and institutions.
