Abstract

Improving education quality depends on teacher competence and learning facility support. This study aims to examine the influence of professional teacher competence and educational infrastructure on the work enthusiasm of public junior high school teachers in Baguala District, Ambon City. A quantitative approach with a descriptive correlational method was used. The sample consisted of 127 teachers selected via stratified random sampling. Data were collected through a closed-ended Likert scale questionnaire. The analysis revealed that teacher competence significantly influences work enthusiasm (regression coefficient = 0.379), as do facilities (coefficient = 0.271). Together, both variables explain 42.2% of the variation in teacher enthusiasm. These findings highlight the need to strengthen teacher professionalism and learning support. The study offers a foundation for integrated policy decisions to improve teacher quality. It implies the need for ongoing professional development and adequate infrastructure to ensure a productive work environment.

This study is motivated by the crucial role of principals in ensuring the continuity of managerial functions in schools, particularly at SMP Katolik Ambon, which faces various challenges in educational management. The research aims to describe the principal's efforts in overcoming obstacles to managerial functions through participatory and collaborative leadership approaches. The study employed a qualitative method using observation, interviews, and documentation techniques involving the principal, vice principal, civil servant teachers, and foundation-based teachers. The findings indicate that the principal successfully addresses resource, communication, and coordination constraints through mentoring strategies, clear task distribution, and enhanced teacher participation. This study demonstrates that the principal’s contribution not only strengthens school management but also fosters a more adaptive culture of collaboration. The implications highlight the importance of developing school leadership capacity and recommend strengthening policy and facility support to optimize managerial functions.

Abstract

Within the framework of national education reform, teacher certification serves as a strategic instrument to enhance professional competence and pedagogical performance. This research was motivated by the limited empirical evidence explaining the relationship between certification, professional motivation, and teaching quality in Indonesia’s island-based regions. The study aims to examine the influence of teacher certification on professional motivation and its implications for instructional quality among junior high school teachers in Central Maluku Regency. Employing a mixed-methods convergent design, data were collected through a quantitative survey of 60 teachers and in-depth interviews with school principals and education supervisors. The findings indicate a significant positive correlation between certification and professional motivation (r = 0.673; p < 0.01), with a direct effect on teaching quality, particularly in instructional planning and reflective practice. Qualitative insights reveal that certification fosters teacher reflectivity, professional accountability, and peer collaboration grounded in local pela gandong values. Conceptually, this study extends transformational leadership theory into a context-specific framework of teacher professionalism within island education systems
